  1. we can't forget lying under oath is perjury is a criminal offense. but politician refrain from bringing up the "lying" issue because they all do it. they do it to get elected and they do it to stay in office. so their thinking is of political survival; quid pro quo. if I use the issue of lying and perjury against someone what's to stop a political opponent or the opposing party from using it against me? its an unspoken agreement between the 2 major parties to simply overlook and ignore any issue of deceit or perjury committed by any opponent from the other major political party.
