i'm not too sure about the civil war scenario. the oligarchs want a big, SINGLE oppressive corporate state not several smaller oppressive corporate states. I think its much more likely our rulers want civil unrest but won't let the country disintegrate or break up. and they'll use that unrest as an excuse to invoke even greater restrictions on our civil liberties. the REAL threat we face isn't a civil war but THE POLICE STATE that the elite have already begun to implement not only in the U. S. but globally. the 2 greatest threats humanity faces RIGHT NOW are the police state and climate change. and the civil unrest caused by our continued ignoring of climate change will result in even MORE INTRUSIVE police state measures to be enacted. why else would the world's corporate and political "leaders" be ignoring climate change? they want the chaos that'll ensue because it'll give them the rationale to further restrict our freedoms. AND PEOPLE WILL APPLAUD THESE EFFORTS!

all countries are oligarchies, my friend. some less so than others. but they all have a ruling elite that decides the fate of the people and the direction of country. its just a matter of degree. for instance, oligarchs in some countries don't mind that the citizens receive health care or have in place consumer, labor or environmental protections. but its still the oligarchs making these decisions.

what separates contemporary oligarchies from those in the past is the POLICE-STATE technologies being developed and used to enforce it. every time we buy a cellphone or buy something online we're using police-state technology. every time we exalt the insanity of driverless cars, face-recognition technology and digital manipulation of video, known as deep-fakes, we're praising police-state technology. the militarization of the police, the surveillance society, the cashless economy, drone technology and the coming "WONDERS" of micro-chipping are police-state technologies. and the onslaught of commercial products offering so-called digitized and computerized conveniences as are offered by today's cell-phones and the insanity of digital assistant products like siri are all designed to make us MORE dependent on the oligarchs. so civil war or not, the corporate police-state IS HERE and our human tights are IN GRAVE DANGER of being completely erased. and we do nothing?

@mahlina1220 … my point is, and hartman made the same point, if voting made a difference we wouldn't be in the mess we're in right now. trump lost to Clinton and they still installed trump into the whitehouse. and the DNC rigged their convention to favor Clinton and stole the nomination from sanders. by all accounts sanders should be president right now. and Hartman's point was, even when we DO get the politician we vote for into office they still only pass legislation the elite allows them too. i'm not trying to convince anyone not to vote. by all means be my guest. but don't expect any huge changes in the overall direction of our country even if the candidate of your choice is allowed to win. in other words - voting only works when the process is honest and they offer more than a choice between the lesser of 2 evils. i'm sorry my friend but this is the country, the world, the elite have made for us. THE ONLY WAY TO CHANGE IT IS FOR US TO CHANGE and stop playing this rigged game the elite has set up that does nothing but divide us and pit us against one another.

@theodoreroberts3407 … agree with your overall comment but the reality is THE ELITE, THE OLIGARCHS, THE PLUTOCRATS, whatever you want to call them, decide who MOST of our candidates will be - at the federal, state and local levels. and since they choose the candidates they choose OUR representatives. you ever notice how often an incumbent wins an election? once you're elected you're almost guaranteed a life-long political position. you ever notice how the candidate that raises the most money wins their election 99% of the time? the 2 factors tie into each other because the incumbent ALWAYS has the advantage in raising more money. American, AND THE WORLD'S, politics are determined BY MONEY! politicians DON'T WIN ELECTIONS - THEY BUY THEM! and the result is our politicians are bought as well. its called bribery. and the supreme court has slowly but surely made bribery legal from the 70's, defending the lobbyists, to the 2000's with the "citizen's united" decision.

THEY'RE WONDERFUL! so no, there's absolutely no sarcasm from me at all. you're kindness is greatly appreciated. I do get a lot of favorable comments. and although all of them are appreciated most of them are rather generic. yours are quite unique and distinctive. a real pleasure to read. they truly, did, INDEED, lift my spirits. because, although I do get favorable responses I get ATTACKED much more often. and not only from the trump cult, but from the left and right. it's tough sometimes to try to WAKE-UP people. especially when they tend to so enjoy their slumber. YES, one of my main themes is - we're ALL, the left and right, the liberals and conservatives, the democrats and republicans - WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER! liberals and conservatives AREN'T mortal enemies. but trump is NO conservative. he's an out and out fascist. he brings NOTHING positive to the table and neither does his cult. but even with the trump cult my comments are intended to enlighten. and so often they respond with disdain, insults and attacks. I've had my LIFE THREATENED more than 10 times by trump's cult. that's what he inspires in people! your comments were fresh and invigorating and THAT'S always a welcomed inclusion in my life. thanks.

@calichef1962 ... well there's 2 ways of looking at climate change. you can view it as nature getting its revenge and trying to kill us. or it can viewed as the industrialists and the profiteers who're causing climate change trying to kill us. I think the latter is most accurate. what I don't yet understand is why humanity allows the WORSE among us to rule the world and make ALL the social decisions that effect ALL our lives? why do we continue to follow and believe the worst people humanity has to offer? gangsters and thugs lead our social, political, economic, religious and scientific institutions. and this has been going on for over 6000 years - since the dawn of "civilization" and the rise of the first city states. is this cycle of insanity ever going to end? will our species EVER wake up and SCREAM - ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!?

@calichef1962 … I think your referring to "COINTELPRO" (counter intelligence programs) used by the FBI from '56--71. these were used to disrupt the civil rights and the antiwar movements, the SDS and the counter culture. but it was by no means the first or last times our govt had used infiltration as a tactic against human rights movements. infiltration was used in the 1910's and 1930's to disrupt the socialist and labor movements. and also used in the occupy movement and the green party. (they also infiltrated far-right groups like the KKK, the Nazi party and the militia networks.) the infiltrators spread disinformation, cause disunity and incite violence. the idea is to discredit the movement in the eyes of the public and to destroy or at least weaken it from within. assisination of leaders is just the more extreme method of handling dissent. they also imprison political dissenters, as they did with leary and others, or they just harass the hell out of them to the point of mental breakdown or suicide, as what happened with Hoffman and others. our govt can be very devious and lawless indeed. and when they set their eyes on you THEY ARE RELENTLESS!
