  1. it was the germans pushing austerity on these countries. i always wondered why Greece, Italy and spain didn't tell the germans to just go to hell back at the beginning of the EU. the idea of the EU was to create a European trading block similar to that of north America, Canada, the u. s. and mexico to better compete with larger nations like Russia, china and india. the idea WASN'T to force the nations to lose their autonomy and stop representing the will of their people!
