the thing about these american political parties is, since we have only two of any consequence, they're supposed to represent a BROAD SPECTRUM of political thought. they're supposed to each possess extremist and moderate viewpoints. in parlamentary govts there are numerous political parties and they represent a very strict viewpoint. the point is they must CONSOLIDATE with each other to gain enough votes to rule. this is how the moderate elements prevent any unwanted extemism from taking full control. many parties negotiating and cooperating for the good of the country. the problem here is that the dems and the GOP are the same party of corporate elitist. they use minor, yet extreme positions, to differentiate themselves from each other. but both parties are pro-corprate with slightly different ideas on how to enforce that corportism.

@CaliCaroline ... i'm not arguing with you. but there are "conservative" democrats and there used to be "liberal" republicans. personally, i think that mixture is a good thing. but when its used to obstruct the majority in power - that ain't good. you ever notice how it seems whenever a conservative gains power, they do basically whatever they want and they almost always get their way. on economic issues anyway. but when liberals take over they're met with obstruction and can't get any economic reforms through? it makes no since to me. why don't the dems just do what the GOP does and just do what they want anyway?
