  1. its the evangelicals that have left Christianity. I could bring up MANY points but I'll just mention 2: 1) the golden rule, which is advocated throughout history by numerous cultures and religions and commonly ignored through the excuse of "pragmatism" and inconvenience, and 2) Jesus' several denunciations of wealth and materialism, both of which the evangelicals vigorously embrace. i founded a new and innovative philosophy called equalism which i'm proud to say supports the social teachings of jesus (among others). but the "left" HAS made a huge error in its blanket denunciation of "religion." I hear it all the time and it sickens me. Christians were among the first socialists and abolitionists. its time to throw Marx's disdain for religion on the trash heap of history. equalism understands, like science, religion is neither good or bad but its their "leaders" and the elite who corrupt them both.
