  1. the problem here is the lie that "individualism" and "collectivism" are mutually exclusive. THEY AREN'T! its perfectly possible to protect individual rights while maintaing a functioning society that benefits the whole. in fact, you CAN'T maintain a system that benefits all of society without protecting the rights of the indivual. individual rights DOES benefit society. its not an either/or scenerio but a BOTH scenerio. you can't have one without the other.

  2.  @peggydale4638  ... there's that great quote from orwell's "animal farm:" "everyone is equal but some are more equal than others." its a perfect description of capitalism under the guise of "democracy." wealth gives you more power and more rights than everyone else, even more so than everyone else COMBINED! which is anti-democratic! yet the courts, under capitalist, elitist, corporate control, side with the power of bribery to corrupt democracy over the will, rights or needs of the people. thanks to the courts and the GOP the u. s. is no longer a republic. it's now an oligarchy where the rule of law no longer applies if it interferes with your pursuit of ever greater profits and power.
