It’s interesting how a combination of bias and ignorance work to change the narrative: Volvo had a report that claimed EVs took 100,000 Km before they recouped the greater emissions produced in making them compared to ICE cars. When referenced, this magically became 100,000 miles (it’s 62,500), and later became 200,000 miles. It was based on 95% of electricity being generated from coal (in the U.K. it’s 2.4%). It assumed no increase in renewables over time. It assumed no improvements in EVs. It ignored recycling of the batteries. It was based on Volvo’s (not great) EV.

It’s also worth mentioning that the battery packs will continue to reduce in price, so you need to look at what it will cost you in 8 years time, rather than the price today, I’m guessing around half? So $5k - $7k. It’s also likely to be more efficient, so you’ll either get a saving in weight or a longer range. (Plus, on the 2nd hand market there will be people happy to buy with a range of 100 miles).

  13.  @abymatsu  Not true, we’d all love to see Lucid succeed, the engineering is excellent, the car looks pretty good and the interior is luxurious. The problem is the management behaviour is bordering on fraud in my opinion, it’s hard to believe that they believed their predicted production numbers.

  14. The other ‘FUD’ story is the guy in Germany who ‘fell asleep’ while driving a Tesla and couldn’t be stopped for 15 minutes by the police. No mention is made of the driver deliberately circumventing the safety features of the car that check the driver is in control.
