As a Nigerian, here's my simple answer: Bad geography, poor social and economic systems, poor political systems, failing legal and social institutions, dutch disease, tribalism and others. During the golden age of Islam, under Harun al-Rashid, the civilization was experiencing great economic, social and scientific development and Islam was moderatingbabd becoming more Secular until Orthodox pushback from Imams and others caused these changes to stop. Then, the Christian West embraced modernity and reform and advanced in all fields. The fact that Christianity abolished institutions like slavery, broke clan structures by removing cousin marriage, and stopped the ban on usary which led to stuff like capitalism and meritocracy, while islam refused to do all of this. Also, the colonialism excuse is just lazy and mainly used by tribalist Arabs as an excuse. Same way Pan-Africans use it as an excuse for Africa's failings.

😂That intro! Nice subversion! Also, i am not surprised by this observation of demographic decline in the Arab lsIamic world and I largely ascribe it to sociocultural, socioeconomic and even religion. Basically, Arablc lsIam failed to embrace modernity centuries ago while other religions and cultures did and this is ehy they are failing. Speaking as a Nigerian, my own observation here is that while our largely musIim north has had higher birthrates due to cultural differences, their high levels of insecurity, underdevelopment, and low infrastructure would eventually compound and lead to a decline. For example, there is a practice called Almajiri where musIims are encouraged to have large families even when poor or illiterate and if they can't provide for their children, they give them away to random beggars/"lslamic scholars" who raise them as beggars. These kids then end up becoming trrorists or just derelicts😢 It stems from their agrarian society and has created such a problem there. This is firther compounded by poor female education and socially ingrained sexism, the low industrialization, low economic development and high illiteracy and insecurity there. I mean, the richest man in Nigeria and Africa, Dangote, is a northern MusIim but he relocated all his businesses and family to the South for better opportunities and stability. Comparatively, here in the South, we have more Christians but a sizeable MusIim population and due to our more modern cultures here, stuff like birth control, education, capitalism and industrialization are more accepted. Our birthrates in the South are now almost on par with the North and it's more healthy and stable due to the the better levels of development and security. Plus, women here tend to be more educated but also more incentivized to have better families due to the less restrictive cultures here compared to the north.

@yellow1one yeah, you would think so. These countries are nice to visit for tourism but not the best for long-term living😅 Considering most of them lacked (and still lack) stuff like industrialization, functioning stable infrastructure like sewage systems (Dubai still uses trucks to remove sewage😅), fragile economies dependent on oil, poor agriculture a d water issues, ongoing human rights issues, a large percentage of the populace lacking in higher education despite all their "wealth", insecurity, land more issues, I would say they are not developed as you assume. And let's be honest. Most of them didn't become like that because of US interference. They were always like that. Prior to being petro-states, most were known for Pearl or incense or fishing.
