  1. Really sorry for all the good people in South Africa who are under the tyranny of their incompetent government. Stuff like this makes me so grateful I am a Nigerian. My country has many issues and load shedding too but we are far better than South Africa in many more ways and future prospects. Our electric grid, though flawed, is undergoing rapid modernisation and we never let our politicians rest on it. Our national unity is better. Our economy is larger. Our industrialization is increasing, not declining. Our political system, though flawed, is not as crippled and corrupt as South Africa and our politicians don't use the excuse of "apartheid" race to secure power. Plus, we are not known as a haven for xenophobic killings and murders. Good luck to South Africa

"In the image of it's fellow African countries"? 🤔 Friend, you do know that South Africa is neighbored by Botswana and Namibia, both of which have better governments and economies and infrastructure despite having less land and resources than South Africa. Also, they were also colonized. South Africa is not a reflection of the rest of Africa. It's its own special case of failure and ruination, like Zimbabwe and Congo. Please, don't insult the rest of Africa like that because of South Africa's failed leadership and policies.

  5.  @spidermonkey8430  Yeah, we do have a high population but it's actually declining. Also, how exactly is this a problem? Thankfully, our demographics are mainly young and not old. Plus, this means well for our labor force and since most of the young population is getting more educated and with increasing spending power, this is a good thing. However, I sincerely hope the population decline is not a severe one and that our government can concurrently improve the economic situation here in order to take advantage of our high population.

  9. As a Nigerian, I feel the same way and SA makes me appreciate my country more. The only difference between them and us (Kenya and Nigeria) is that we didn't have any pre-built infrastructure and had to actually work hard to build it up. Thankfully, unlike them, we chose capitalism and democracy and it is benefitting us. We may not be perfect but we both have better prospects than SA.

  10.  @minister6667  😂😂Yeah, it sucks how my government has mishandled our electric infrastructure due to corruption and incompetence. Thankfully, at least we are making some progress with ongoing and recent purchases/construction of electric grid infrastructure. Heck! Compared to South Africa where they have freaking nuclear reactors but somehow can't keep the lights on, we are on rack to do better because we are actually building up what we need rather than let what we have break down.

  11. I have to agree. I am Nigerian and I have met many white South Africans and even white Zimbabweans who left their countries and some emigrated here. They tell me and my dad how bad their countries became and they also ended up integrating here and succeeding mainly cause our government, despite our issues, tends to promote capitalism and doesn't seize private property like SA and Zimbabwe did. There are several whites who actually own commercial farms here.

Maybe consider that South Africa is neighbors with Botswana and Namibia, both of whom have some of the most politically stable and well managed economies in Africa, despite having less land and resources than South Africa. They also have better infrastructure and little corruption and they have black leadership. South Africa's problems are because of South Africa, not because they are black. Their leadership embraced Marxism, racialist ideals, and we're mainly strong-men thugs who came to power. Of course their country was doomed from the start.

  15. @@sincronot Yes, we have been working to improve for a long time and the 90s, 2000s and even currently are periods of marked improvement. Poverty has declined by double digits on the continent, industrialization has gone up. More countries are becoming-and stayed as- democracies. Infrastructure development and maintenance has improved. Food security and other metrics are improving too. heck! My own country of Nigeria is literally the largest economy here and our national unity is still maintained. Look, I get it. You don't live here and your country and life are obviously more privileged so you take all the metrics I just listed for granted. Why shouldn't I counter your negative perceptions? Obviously we are not all developed here, like Morocco or Botswana or Mauritius, and many issues and problems abound but, thankfully, we are not all regressing like South Africa or Zimbabwe or Sudan. We don't deny this but we are also not so foolish enough (like you) as to pretend that no progress has been made.

If you see that as a "cope" oh well. Also, yeah, the issue of most modern countries in Africa created after colonialism and disparate tribes is true, even in the case of my country. However, in our case, we were colonized by the British and the frameworks they left behind (political, socio-economic, and others) are what have helped us form a stable, yet fledgling national unity. Plus, Ethiopia was never colonized and yet hey have had more civil conflicts than us and failing national unity. It all comes down to the political leadership and the social, cultural and political frameworks said country was built on. South Africa was built on poor frameworks and is suffering because of that and poor leadership while Botswana (another colonized country) was built on better frameworks and is doing fine despite also having several different tribes.

  24.  @brandonshomack6950  yeah, the mob lynching is an unfortunate tragic thing that happens in my country but I would advise you not to be so easily taken by what you see on the internet. Much like how American media overblows their incidences of black people getting killed by police, the mob lynching is not as frequent or common as you think. Also, many times, the perpetrators are immediately arrested and detained by local law enforcement and it has become a social taboo to perform mob lynching here. Sadly, some still happen but not as much as you would want to imagine.

One reason many of us in Africa are optimistic about our future is because more of our countries are using western socioeconomic (Capitalism, democracy and liberalism) models to improve ourselves.

  32. I hear you. I am Nigerian and I had a friend back in secondary school who was a Boer and whose family had roots in Zimbabwe and South Africa. Sadly, they had to flee because of Mugabe and the worsening state of South Africa. Really great folks who got along well with us in Nigeria. Last I heard he and his folks emigrated to the UK but they always had good things to say about my country and I'm glad they are okay.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Mexico and India and China partly get more developed by some of their citizens going to developed countries, learning skills, earning money and reinvesting it back in their home countries? Why shouldn't the Africans using this same practice do the same?

Though we are teh largest economy in Africa and industrialization has been increasing, our current government and ruling party since 2015 is more left-wing than our last one. They have been overspending, increasing taxes, and so many other backwards economic policies that caused many issues here but, thankfully, the trade deals and polices our previous government made have prevented much worse damage. In your case, I have no doubt Mexico will continue to improve and better politicians will take power. Plus, you guys are closer to teh USA and have been able to take full advantage of that👍👍

We also have our insecurity problem but mainly from Islamic insurgents from unstable countries like Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso etc and some home grown insurgents. Thankfully, the only good thing our current government did was bolster our armed forces and military to tackle the insurgency and it's working. As for Mexico, I have no doubt you guys can deal with the cartel problem, especially through security deals with the USA. You also have better electricity production than we do and much of manufacturing is coming to you. So you are well on your way to becoming a better country.

I am a Nigerian and growing up in the early 2000s, we usued to look on SA as a better country than ours but today, my country has outpaced them economically and I am graceful we didn't go down their path. As for the ANC, I know of how most of them were just illiterate Marxist-trained thugs and murderers who gained power and effectively just replaced teh apartheid whites and proceeded to ruin that country. That is why I always compare them and Zimbabwe to the better examples of Botswana and Namibia who had great leadership and embraced good economic, political and social systems i.e. capitalism, democracy and liberalism.

South Africa's economy has declined and Nigeria has replaced them for years as Africa's largest economy so much so that Elon Musk brought Star Link to them first rather than his own country of South Africa. Also, Botswana has a better and more stable political climate, economic structure with less corruption, more security, and better infrastructure compared to South Africa. SA is coasting on nice looking geography and degrading infrastructure the apartheid whites built and their politicians and citizens are ruining that country.

  48.  @josephkelly6681  simple: my country was colonized by the British and during that time, for all the bad that happened, the British also imparted their social, economic and political framework on our country. That's why we have one national language, practice democracy (multi party type), have more free market economics and a more positive outlook and prospect as a nation. While we don't have the pre-existing infrastructure that the apartheid whites built in South Africa, we have had to build most of it off what the British left. Despite the corruption our politicians have, a benefit is that they were not influenced by Marxism like in SA. So most tend to respect democracy and capitalism here. Also, though our country had a civil war, national unity was preserved largely by things like the unified language we all speak (English) and the inertia and socioeconomic pressures keeping us together. We're basically built differently from South Africa.
