Peter, this take was a weird one and kinda too emotional for you. Do every whistle blower or leaker is automatically in the pocket of some foreign nation? How about them simply being disgruntled or disgusted/disillusioned with malfeasance committed y their organizations? Heck! Why no mention of Eric Swallwell in that case? @iliassti4246 Are you sure? According to news from IAfrica website, Burkina Faso's Junta is under pressure from the rising terrorist attacks. Also, is this the same Burkina Faso that is now forcibly conscripting anyone who criticizes the Junta? The same country that still relies on UN food aid according to their own reports? As for my country and Boko Haram, we are countering them militarily but not yet defeated them, partly because terrorists for Niger, Burkina Faso and Mali keep flooding in and joining them😔😔

@electrosyzygy yeah, that is a possibility but not very likely in our case. The countries in the Sahel they were involved in were already economically disparate, had multiple socioeconomic issues, were low in terms of geopolitical significance, and already plagued by Islamic and tribal insurgency. While we have insecurity in Nigeria, much of that stems from our areas bordered by already unstable countries and our economy and military is in far better shape than them, especially in terms of political structure. Plus, our geopolitical ties are leveraged enough that Russia has no huge presence here or means to destabilize our country as they did in the others

All of these socioeconomic and cultural and political issues would not be plaguing Russia had they not been ruined by Communism. Their country could have gone on to become an industrial, economic and liberal power in Euraisa instead of the failing basket case it is now.

@josepha.r5839 oh yeah, there is. It may be tacit but consensus does exist. It's mainly an economic one where the north produces most of our agriculture and food while South provides the economic and financial and energy to them.

Thank God my country (Nigeria) didn't join. Sorry but BRICS is not viable and has not been viable for a long time. None of the members have any significant trade or diplomacy with each other. Some of the members outright mistrust each other (China and India. China and Russia) and most of them (except India) have serious socioeconomic, political and economic problems. It is a joke of an organization.

@karunama3771 correct. Sad how human institutions can be corrupted and full of people who use influence to counter dissenting viewpoints. As a Christian, I won't pretend the church is above this flaw. Thankfully, wiser heads in the church prevailed and let the scientific process stand and advance with their backing. You should also not forget that it was this same Christianity and Church where Monks like Gregor Mendel who practically created the field of genetics, and Georges Lemaitre who proposed the Big Bang theory, were a part of. What happened to Copernicus and Galileo was sad but please don't act like they weren't the exception. Compared to the repression of science in Islam after the Golden Age, Christianity did more and continues to do more to advance science and knowledge.

@karunama3771 Um, if it's a religious issue, can you explain why any of these other societies and their dominant religious institutions never could replicate Europe's and Christendom's development of the scientific revolution? Why didn't China, India, ancient Greece, post-golden age Islam, Pagan Rome, etc? I know most religions are social institutions but not religions are the same. For every Copernicus and Galileo, you also had the Church supporting as bad promoting medieval Christian monks like Georges Lemaitre who proposed the Big Bang theory, Gregor Mendel who practically created the field of genetics, and Roger Bacon who revolutionized optics, astronomy, and mathematics. These aren't the only examples.

@etcher6841 Heck! You do know that the church eventually came around to accepting Galileo's heliocentrism theories, right? Tycho Brahe's geo-heliocentrism was posited years earlier and as Galileo's theories gained more scrutiny and study, they were increasingly accepted, especially once the political and court interference died down.

@etcher6841 Okay, here is my source: The Galileo Project by Rice University I notice you omitted how Pope urban VIII was his main patron and backer who funded him and permitted him to publish his research on heliocentrism, as long as he didn't use it to question God's omnipotence. You also fail to mention how the Pope's support stopped due to a perceived slight from Galileo in one of his writings, and also the growing political and court intrigues of Rome that threatened Urban's life and his position as Pontiff. When said intrigues targeted Galileo, Urban couldn't defend him anymore but he still tried to prevent his death.

@karunama3771 yes, Chriiwas used by conquering regimes and kingdoms and people but it is not intrinsically a "conquering" religion like Islam or Japanese Shintoism. If you actually knew anything basic about our faith, you wouldn't even say something like that. Also, most religions make their devotees feel special and Christianity is not different

@jeffersonhassan4558 did you not read my original comment or any of my replies where I acknowledged this? Of course I know we have high inflation, cost of living and unemployment. I know our economy has not been well since 2015 when APC took over and ruined things but you do also know that our GDP and economic forecast are among the best in Africa, right? Plus, as terrible as the effects of Tinubu's reforms are, the improvements they will bring down the line are undeniable. Also, here's a simple fact: A country's economic hardship doesn't mean they are not doing well. America, Canada, China, Brazil, etc all are facing high levels of inflation, cost of living, and unemployment but I doubt you are going to call them failed economies.

I'm ruling out Israel here sinply due to the fact a high Azerbaijan delegate was also deceased. Consider how Israel has good relations with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan and Iran have issues due to irredentist views on both sides and a huge Azerbaijani diaspora in Iran. Israel supports Azerbaijan due to this. Why would they kill a politician from there?
