  9. The system wants resources in the hands of the largest consumer(women). Not having that “out” would force women to think twice about being disloyal. There is no excuse for cheating, in general, and the system knows that most men will not “ask” for paternity tests, because women will react angrily. The test should be done, each time, as a matter of course. It is disgusting.

  17. It is another addition to the wasteland of “meaningless verbiage”. All of this terminology is ideal for these women because none of it is tangible, and none of it can be proven/ disproven. It is akin to being called a “racist”. There is nothing you could do to prove you are “not” a racist, beyond denying it.

  18. If you are referring to women, they can choose the path they want. But it is one or the other. There are no careerist/mother/wives who are able to devote to that trifecta properly. It is mother/wife, or careerist/wife. Some lifestyles are not conducive to parenthood.

  19. These marriage stats need to be carefully scrutinized. Many men and women have chosen poorly in who they marry. That is the issue, not the institution. These totals are also buffered by the number of people that marry several times. It stands to reason that if they already failed/ quit in marriage, they are likely to do so again. The divorce rates of “repeat wedders” is off the charts.

  27. Nastiness is pointless, but these women are single because of their choices. There is no “ideal” mate. Mature adults have always understood this, and they adjusted their standards accordingly. Women that are single, in their 30’s and beyond, have made bad decisions in men, thought themselves too good for most men, or are unpleasant to be around. Having a mate comes with conditions. A lot of women, and men, don’t want to meet them.

  29. You are referring more to men and women who are “not” interested in having children. These are two different conversations. Age can be irrelevant when children are not involved. But the problems exist when women deliberately wait until their 30’s to start taking marriage and children seriously. That makes no sense, and the men that are keen on families are going to scoff at those women. Up until the 80’s, it was very common for a 34 year old woman to have a child. It was the third or fourth child, with her husband, of a long term marriage.

  37. That is true. The challenges still remain, for subsequent relationships. It is not about denigrating the women. It is just that fracturing the family dynamic creates disarray. There are legitimate reasons for single motherhood: widowhood, infidelity, abuse. But I would think those three, even combined, only comprise a small minority.

  38. Yes, it is a terrible cycle. This all flows from a scenario that should not even be in place, and really wasn’t prevalent until the 90’s. There should not “be” single mothers, other than widows or in extreme circumstances. It irreparably corrupts the family dynamic, and will complicate romantic possibilities going forward. It is inevitable, and further illustrates why those that have children together “stay” together.

  48. Going to a rave? No chance of chaos there…The truth about single motherhood is stark and unshakable. The man you have a child with, outside of extreme circumstances, is “your” man. You will not do better than that man. Single motherhood forever corrupts the family structure, “and” any future romantic connection. “ That” path will almost always be more difficult than working things out with “your” man. It makes no sense.
