@bereal6590 Clearly I am referring to the country based on the voting system of first past the post. It should not be necessary to spell it out every single time for goodness sake. Patronising response too.

@davidsandz2186 On the contrary. In a number of sectors, especially education, support for strike action has been limited. NASUWT did not vote to strike. Most unions are weak and will recommend pay deals that are pay cuts- this is defeat and plays the bosses and government's game. The decline in wages is catastrophic and the union response is nowhere near enough- the workers and union leaders have failed to act for at least a decade and a half. This makes it much more difficult to act now- it is too little, too late. Powerful union leaders is an oxymoron. They do not have much due to anti trade union laws and few trade union executives are rock solid being robust in doing their job properly on behalf of members. Honourable exceptions such as the PCS is not enough. Pay in France and Germany is higher- the average family in France is 10% better off than in the UK and in Germany it is 20%. You might think things are going to change substantially but I very much doubt it. I hope I am wrong.

@jCrItCh5 The government has made a number of statements and adopted positions that can accurately be described as racist. A former senior minister in Johnson's government was reported as describing Braverman as a 'real racist bigot' in The Guardian recently. Look it up.

@pocolol8424 Not at all. Putin, global warming, low tax for the rich, decreasing life expectancy due to widening inequality, and the threat of the far right are all much bigger problems than the EU. There is a left wing case against the EU and its previous iterations but Brexit will not deliver anything for the workers. Nothing at all.

@West1Think Travel around EU nations and see if you can find the evidence of decay all around in crumbling public services, destitution, use of food banks on the same scale as the UK. You will not. I wonder if you have ever been to another European country. If the evidence suggested Brexit was a success, I would accept this. The BOE and the OBR have stated that Brexit has had a major negative effect on the UK economy. They don't just make things up for fun. UK economic growth is extremely weak and it is about to go into a recession. Wages are higher in the EU. Even if the EU is neoliberal as its critics claim, its brand of capitalism is doing much better than the Anglo Saxon version which has successfully destroyed the UK economy for most of the last 42 years.

They are not necessarily on course to lose the election. Millions will vote for them and their divisive rhetoric works on them. The electoral arithmetic is against Labour, not least because it has lost Scotland. But so what? Labour is a neoliberal party little different to the Tories. Its policies will be largely the same and it has no vision for the betterment of society and the economy. What happened to the ten pledges? The left has been purged so there will be no room for discussion of policy. Just like 1997. Fitting that some of the key figures from the Blair era are back on the scene.

@danvez5656 Eaton? Is that a new spelling for eaten?

Disagree. Richard Burgon should be leader- he would be excellent. Not going to happen but he is an excellent communicator and is good on policy detail. Very sincere.

No way. The RMT supports Brexit. I agree with much of what Mick Lynch says- his analysis of the UK economy is correct but add in the Brexit issue and it becomes more complicated. But there is no evidence to support the idea that he would be an effective politician. The role of union leader is different. Other than the issues to do with the rail industry which he is obviously an expert in, he has only recently come to public attention. There is too much focus on repeating the mantra that Mick is great, etc.

@dapdapbamban The PLP does not trust the membership. Corbyn wanted true representative democracy. The left has always realised that if the members were given the say they should be, the PLP would not be able to ride roughshod over the wishes of the members.
