  5. I'm in my 70s I know about these smart phones. I call them a Ball & Chain because that is what they are. They made them indispensable to many who couldn't see the writing on the wall, but I could. I do not do Smart anything. Maybe that's because I AM smart? The other day I went into Waitrose but the manned / womanned (or other) till was closed. I stood there with my trolley and called to a member of staff asking if the would open this till and they did. I will NOT use self service checkouts.

  33. When I joined the Met police in 1979 we were assigned 'beats' and had to stick to them walking on our own and getting to know the area and the residents. Our presence was a very good deterrent. I have never seen foot patrols since I left in 2009. The main problem I encountered was when someone called they complained how long it took me to respond!!
