Sometimes people pick up an item, put it in their bag (especially elderly people) and then realise but there was no intent. Sometimes they even leave the store and a bit of investigation shows there was no intent. So that is incorrect. I know this as I was a police officer for 30 years and have dealt with hundreds of shop lifting allegations. It bis to do with mens rea - 'The Guilty Mind' but that must be proven in court after charge.

  11. I never wore one and never will either. Not only because they don't work because there is nothing for them to stop, but they also release nano plastics and can cause bacterial pneumonia due to build up of Streptococcus after just 20 mins. There are far more reasons that just this too.

  20. @John Chapman My comment disappeared for some reason. Anyway, you can cancel the DD on your bank log in page. Then contact Octopus and tell them you have cancelled the DD and inform them you will pay a set amount each month. Then you just pay one off payments on the Octopus account page. My bank (Nationwide) states - 'You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by simply contacting your bank or building society. Written confirmation may be required. Please also notify the organisation.' Obviously you have to let them know what you are doing but YOU control it NOT them.

  30.  @ferrumignis  I would fight it to the bitter end, but if it ever came to that I would fit a Faraday Cage around it with lead lining inside the cupboard. As there are health dangers to the EMFs emitted (not a theory) I would insist on a contract that they will be responsible for any issues relating from that. Also they can catch fire. Another fact. I would also insist that the meter is installed a long way from my property. I am not one to be bullied.

  48. @ Just checked online about this and it is actually illegal and no electrician will do that job anyway. Just refuse a smart meter. They will need a warrant to force you but even then they are not safe so request a document from them accepting any liability for health and safety issues. Look into the health aspects of radiation and fires. Shrubbery is affected and so will we be too.
