Didn't Modi win again. What changes?

It sounds like Canada does not do like the US and give a lot of rich people an incredible break in taxes. There are lots of natural resources in Canada that the world needs. Canada will figure out how to pay for itself.

I was a paperboy in the mid seventies. I see no paperboys today.

Banned - Some people are banned from polls just like I am banned from comments here.

Kind of a nice peaceful pace where he is. As the world changes with it's ever evolving technology, it's good that there are places where nature still predominates as it has done for thousands of years. When I was a kid, they were still discussing improved vacuum tubes. About the time I finished school 741 Op Amps were the thing. I can't imagine where they will be in the next 50 or so years.
6
I wish I could make a prediction 20 years out like you. Twenty years ago there were still people who advocated the ideas of Milton Friedman where capitalism would bring democracy to China. Maybe Milton was right but he got the country wrong. Maybe Vietnam will loosen up on the totalitarianism thing.
6
I don't think China has to collapse. India can simply out compete them. A lower labor rate gives them a good starting point. The fact that Chinese behavior has been erratic to foreign businesses gives India another advantage if they take it India, itself, is a huge sometimes untapped market. If that market can be served, success will follow.

I liked the hat.

Still snowy in the hills of Colorado. His next video should discuss Mike Johnson. He gave a good teaser.
6
Yes - It's not often that people object to a price cut on something that they need. This is true "Trickle down" to the Chinese people.
6
And of course he is a Republican Senator from the deep South. All my life it seems like there's been a recurring pattern of what I've seen from Southern politics. I don't live down there. Maybe it's the water.

@timthetiny7538 Even if they can, their BS tolerance level is not what it used to be. Younger workers are more likely to swallow the lies of corporate America that they can rise to the top with their hard work.

Broad panoramic landscapes are always nice. I do wonder about one thing. Now that the Ukrainians are moving the armaments closer to the battle line, is there a possibility that the Russians can do what the Ukrainians have done so successfully? Can they now destroy the armament depots that sit waiting for the mud to dry up? Will this time also give the Ukrainians time to continue to destroy facilities on Russian soil decreasing their ability to wage war? I guess that was two things, not one.

How many missiles had Little Rocket Man had explode on liftoff?

In a democracy, you ARE the government. Politicians will not be able to make these policies without support. I suspect that some of these undesired policies came from the rich who satisfied their needs and pulled the wool over every one else's eyes. It seems like housing and healthcare are problems that can be fixed if the people use the power of their votes to make it so.
5
Lots of that money has been spent already. Much of the armaments being sent to Ukraine is old stuff. It will cost a whole lot more if we've got to help defend the rest of Europe from Crazy Putin. You are right about the money thing AND taxes should be increased for those who are very rich.
5
So the US is moving towards a version of Peronism. Please cry for us Argentina!

Beautiful Pines behind him. I'd hate to see them burn. Frame 2:04 "For those of you who are concerned about climate change, is that part of this? I'm gonna have to say yes." This climate change / global warming thing is getting harder and harder to ignore.
5
@gigglehertz I grew up in one of those sparsely populated places. People do care. There's even a lot of people who do not live anywhere close that care. However, if mining is done right, it can be a win-win.

Build nukes - Over the 60 year life, the fuel is relatively cheap and there should be more flexibility in location. You should be able to build the nuke close to the need for the power and not string transmission lines a thousand miles from the source to the load. There are newer nuclear designs that take less materials and can be constructed faster reducing the capital cost. Any journey begins with a single step. Once we begin to build some of these the path will become clear.

Enron guys were the "smartest guys in the room."

What country is the world's largest democracy? The future lies with India.
5
Sudbury has nickel, The UP of Michigan has nickel and I believe there are deposits near Duluth that could be developed. Foreign materials and labor are used because they are cheap and don't worry about the environment. Maybe, it's time to produce stuff in North (& South) America again. It's the same deal as the rare Earth metals that the US gets from China.
5
@mrgyani People's memories are short and few begrudge india for buying discount oil from Russia. India is the world's largest democracy. Manufacturers are moving production from China to India. India is poised to become a manufacturing and technological power house. No. I don't live there and have never been there. I just read.
5
@tessjuel I look at the world. I see Venezuela which has a lot of oil. I see Russia which has a lot of oil. I see Norway which has less. What country has spent their oil money the wisest? Norway has the sovereign wealth fund used for the common good of their people. Venezuela has mismanaged their oil money but still has a chance to make things right. Russia has spent their oil money on enriching a few and death and destruction. Investing the cash for a rainy day seems to work well.

Looks like some tough hiking in those fjords. Those countries do seem to be more cooperative than a lot of the world. Thanks Peter.

Talk from above the tree line. This guy does not waste his life sitting behind a desk. That was a very optimistic talk. Maybe, these guys in North Korea will poke their heads up, look around the world and figure what they have isn't working. Maybe, they'll fix some of it.
5
@bsmithhammer Bernie Sanders has numbers to say the opposite and then there's Thomas Picketty with his enormous tome of facts. Nope! We are in the second gilded age. The rich get richer and the rest of us don't.
5
@bsmithhammer Time to restart those German nukes.
5
I used to see these cartoons about people making pilgrimages to a cave high in a Chinese mountain where a bearded wise man would dispense wisdom. In this modern age, we get our wisdom dispensed by this bearded wise man over the internet. He tells us of the aging demographics in China so I guess the guy in the cave may have passed away.

@aegisfate117 You assume as many do that things will be as they were. In the generation before my grandmother, they said, "Man will never learn to fly." You, in effect, are saying that men cannot learn to live in accord with available resources. You, in effect, are saying that things will always be done the same. What does history say? Hasn't mankind learned to maximize the use of resources? Is it such a stretch to think that people can't or won't solve such problems? When you see someone doing something that doesn't work, do you do the same? When you have a problem don't you try to solve it? Are you an optimist or a pessimist? I am getting to be an old man and yet am optimistic about the future. There are wonders yet to be discovered. There are new solutions to existing problems that will be adopted. Hang in there. Get a hat like Mr. Zeihan's hat and laugh a little.

@whatdawhatda9272 No - I was a kid when the river burned. My father worked for Jones & Laughlin. We were told that it would take 100 years for Lake Erie to replenish itself. I will concede that environmental mistakes have been made in the past. However, that is not adequate reason to prevent what the Captains of Industry used to call "Progress." I have faith that mankind can learn from past mistakes. Renewing the rust belt can be considered a form of recycling, but this time the industries will be cleaner. It can be done, but the spirit must be willing.

I just read on Wikipedia that she had a chemical engineering scholarship but did the modeling thing instead.
5
I used to live in the Pacific Northwest. A lot of the energy generated there found its way to California. After I heard they closed San Onofre and were hell bent on closing Diablo Canyon, I figured something was wrong there.

@joeyjojojunior1794 Unless you are a libertarian, I suggest the local library. Often libraries are parts of chains and you can request that book. (Libertarians do not like such socialistic endeavors.)

Such a sweet and gentle description of W. It certainly differs from others who call him a war criminal.

The light upon the water behind Peter is beautiful. I liked this one. As he said countries around the world follow their own interests and do not kowtow to the US. Even if the US tried to do that it would be like herding cats. Besides, as the world economy improves for ever more countries, the US is increasingly being herded by others and does not take the lead.
4
Maybe, you don't need so many miles of transmission lines with nuclear. It seems like that Bruce plant is a lot closer to Toronto than those new wind turbines will be to Toronto.I had this thought. It seems very expensive to construct all those transmission lines. I just think if political forces were not so allied against nuclear that it should have been cheaper for them to install new units at the Palo Verde nuclear plant or restart the one they used to have in Los Angeles.
4
That part of the world is crazy for some reason.
4
I'll miss the sunglasses and the nature. This looks like an ideal time for someone else versed in geopolitics to fill Peter's niche. Who else is out there? I am assuming we will find out.
4
Peace and freedom to those that gave us Uusi Suomi.
4
@vulpo I thought it was closer to 900 bases. If the US was more isolationist, perhaps some of the resources devoted to the military could be used for stuff like Universal Health Care like other countries have. Some of these conflicts are those in which the US should have a hands off policy.
4
It's just the kind of thing Orcs do.
4
@batonnetdecannelle All things do not repeat exactly. How long did it take the originators to build a car in the late 1800s? I'll bet it was a long time. Providing supplies are available, how long does it take a car manufacturer to build a car today? The first of anything takes a long time. After that the next units go more quickly. And,......the Chinese built their EPR reactors much more quickly than the Europeans. There are also other reactors on the drawing boards that can be constructed much more quickly.

Good Talk - As we see these different factions in Russia, we hope Russia will somehow break up or turn it's attention from Ukraine. However, these factions appear united in one thing and that is this battle in Ukraine. They can be defeated, but there always seem to be more of them forcing men to give their lives for some very obscure cause.
4
Yeh - I didn't notice that they were rose colored. Was that some kind of joke on his part?
4
@Hofftimusprime1 Odd - I had a comment here. It disappeared. It was in response to another comment. I think they wiped it out and my comment with it. Maybe - Things are good for the original poster, but some of us are not completely "self" oriented. Some of us actually care about the common good.
4
In one video Peter says this is the end of Germany. In this video he worries about peaceful Germany working to defend Europe from the new Russian empire. It kind of seems like the EU works more together than separately as there have been economic benefits. It's a good thing if Europe begins to defend itself from predicted Russian aggression. They may not make the same mistake as 1939 when Stalin did his invasion in 1939.
