  8. My father crossed a union line once because he needed the money and the job and a large gang of union men attacked my father and three of his co-workers. All three were left in hospital for weeks. One of the men ended up losing his jobs because he became so depressed after the violent episode and he hit the drink hard after that and ended drinking him self to an early grave. The Unions can pontificate as much as they like about workers rights but they really do not care about workers rights only their own political agenda. Those unions in the UK destroyed all of its industry and this cost my father his job. My family were very pro labour until my father was on the receiving end of their violent activism. My father was one of the first to lose his job when it came down to it.

The yearly tax receipt for the uk removes about 18m jobs from the economy. and it force people to live on credit. The reason people use credit is down to the fact they do not have the money for day to day living.

  11. There is not enough travel between LA and San Francisco to justify the cost of a $200 billion dollar rail project. There simply is not the population density between the two areas to justify the project. It is a nearly 400 mile project that simply cannot be justified.

  26. A high speed network would never work between LA and San Francisco because there would not be a high enough volume of usage for it to be justified. The countries that are touted as examples are getting massive funding from their central national governments and they are for routes that are far higher in traffic volume.

  27.  @gteixeira  The reason such a system works in Japan is due to the fact it is a narrow country with a population of 125 million and it works as the main transport corridor for the whole of Japan. The Shinkansen system of Japan carries 370 million passengers a year due to the high population density of its centres. The Tokyo area has a population of 40 million people hence why the network was originally implemented. The system has no demand in california. If they had of spent that money instead on a transport train system for LA county they would have been far better off. And it may have helped them to better deal with the population of LA and its crazy traffic and allowed for better development.

  28. @jjenson2006 Historically Fiat currency was pushed by special interest groups and not so much government. Fiat currency is the mechanism that allows government to produce bonds and in turn debt cycles. Fiat currency also has a correlation with taxation and this cannot be ignored either. I do understand your point though but it is only a reaction to the fiat currency not the cause.

  30. Then it is up to activism to tackle the legal issue with federal government which I do not think will be coming any time soon. People at present are too apathetic to governance. But wait until 10 years has passed and the economy has not recovered and people will pay more attention. Debt is not going away and growth will not be strong enough to sort this problem anytime soon. Some one will need to recreate the computer or wheel for it to go away.

  32. 2/2 Even with you magical 90% efficiency there would not be enough copper produced to make the panels so every body could use them. There is enough copper in reserves but getting it out of the ground. Scientist have built panels that are up 80% not your magical 90%. Over the next 10 to 20 year nanotechnology will allow for the 90% you are talking about and they will negate the issue of copper. Current silicon can only achieve 40% efficiency with current know scientific production methods.

This is the mechanism that allows government to function in its current manner. If currency was gold based government would struggle to control the money supply. At present fiat money allows government to manipulate the money supply for political reasons and Keynesian ideologies.

But advances in nanotechnology are now starting to make the process cheaper and it is also creating technological solutions to the use of copper. What you do not understand is that it is the oil companies that are doing the research and they intend to own the patent so they can make even more money as there is 2.5 people that do not have access to energy.

Just because there is a need to develop does not mean it needs to be a high speed rail line. 20 billion could allow them to overcome the traffic issues that are plaguing LA. They could develop better metro transports system and also create a new and improved security system for that public network all for 20 billion. It could also allow them to develop better regional areas around LA to take the pressure of the area. A high speed train line is just a gimmick and a trophy that makes no sense. They could build a high speed rail network in and around LA for a fraction of the intercity one they are trying to develop.

LA traffic and transport problem is all down the city itself. If they want to develop the city with a new transport system to help that traffic and maybe get people out of their cars then that is not the same as a 400 mile line from LA to San Francisco. Places like Japan can justify such a network due to population density of the regions.

  50. You cannot have investment into the city unless the local economy is strong. It is that simple. Small business, large business and local industry is the only way to grow an economy. Costs of living are rising everywhere because of lack of new development because of environmental policies. Places like Florida need new cities to develop so as to deal with the population rise.
