My dad and stepmom still use AOL and I can't seem to convince them that they're paying extra for the same service since they already pay AT&T for a TV/phone/computer bundle.

I don't like using self-checkouts. Part of the money I pay for my purchases is used for salaries, so if someone isn't getting paid to ring up my order, then I should get a discount.

In theory, an edible food container sounds interesting, but I'd be concerned about the cleanliness of the people who handled the container before I ate it.

Didn't break my heart, it made me mad. Mad at that guy's arrogance and ignorance.
12
Doesn't absolve us of the responsibility of trying to further reduce that amount.

I played with Barbies all during my childhood and I never remember thinking I had to look like her when I grew up. The only problem I had with how she looked was that every Barbie was blonde (I'm a brunette). I was envious of a couple of Black girls I used to play with because their Barbies had dark hair.

@Pinku Mawile: Same here. I watched it with my dad and stepmom one day at their house and, although the visual and special effects were amazing, the storyline has been done to death.

@YouTube User How about mothers who are widowed or divorced and have no choice but to work?
7
@Vanessa Dugan: She's working, but her business apparently is either still in its infancy or it's just plain not successful, because she's not drawing a salary from it.
5
@xNaeja Makes perfect sense to me. Stores that use self-checkout are saving money on salaries, so if I'm the one doing the work, why shouldn't I get some sort of a discount?

You'd think that someone like Nancy Pelosi would realize that there's a high probability that a camera could switch to her at any time during the speech. Therefore, she should've tried to maintain a neutral expression. Every time I saw her she looked as if she was sucking on a sour apple cough drop.
4
@wilson suarez: The video wasn't about the pros and cons of different energy sources.
3
@shatteredreality11 I think the fact that he did it through an illegal activity makes your point moot.
3
Trump fans must be really confused right now. Two of their beloved deities sniping at each other, who to support?
3
@dereknueveuno It's not the physical aspect of the work that I have a problem with, it's the fact that if I'm paying $(X) for a product when someone checks it out for me, then I should be paying less than $(X) if nobody is checking it out.

I could hazard a guess as to why you'd never see a school with the concept in a poor neighborhood. Since nearly everyone is convinced that you need to be on a device 24/7 to get ahead these days, a suggestion that poor kids not use technology in school would get the person proposing it accused of elitism and/or racism (if the poor kids in question are also minorities).

This way of voting could still work with the Electoral College. Right now, the candidate who wins a plurality of votes statewide (except in Nebraska and Maine) gets all the electoral votes for that state. The only difference I can see with ranked-choice voting is that the winning candidate for a state would have a majority of votes (50% + 1) as opposed to a plurality.
2
I voted yes to return the right to vote because I believe it's the right thing to do, but I don't think the vast majority of those who regain that right are going to take advantage of it.
2
I don't mind the physical aspect of it, I just object to paying the same price as someone who uses a cashier if I'm the one doing her job.
2
@Will's Adventures: I wholeheartedly agree with you, although I'd throw in the entire federal financial aid system, not just student loans.
2
That applies to just about every company that tried to set up shop in a foreign country and failed.
2
Out of curiosity, what about their dependents? When I was growing up, my dad was in the US Navy and I had the same access to the armed forces' health facilities as he did, at no charge. That stopped at age 18 (or 23, if you were a full time college student).
2
@Rabascan Thanks for the info. 🙂
2
And the reason why was in this video: deductions, credits, and other write offs.
2
How does the state ensure that the mail in ballot was filled out by the appropriate voter?
2
If the video's stated topic was "Pros and Cons of Various Energy Sources", then I'd expect those questions to be answered in it.
1
@just_be: When Columbus first arrived in what would later be known as the Americas, he thought he had reached India, so he believed the native population he encountered to be Indians. I have no idea, other than plain laziness, as to why it's still in use in the US today.

The way Trump tells it now, Bannon was essentially someone who sneaked into the White House (somehow getting by security) and stood around twiddling his thumbs all day.
1
That would decrease turn out, not increase it since many people who would be fortunate to get off would take advantage of the three day weekend to travel somewhere.
1
@ccutehoney I do remember seeing off brand dolls that were White and brunette, but I don't remember any White brunette Barbies during the 70s.
1
The simple answer to the question is because enough people are willing to pay the prices charged. If the public put their collective foot down and said, "No more," then the fast food companies would be forced to cut prices.
1
CNBC, please tone down the "background" music.
1
So how should services that your government provides (or is supposed to provide) be paid for?
1
@simpslayer7839 If you look at my comment again, you'll notice I did acknowledge that governments don't always deliver on the services they're supposed to provide to their citizens. However, a debate on what governments are or aren't doing wasn't really what I was aiming for. What I sincerely was curious about was what you think should replace taxes as far as government income is concerned.
1
@bluntcabbage6042 Did I not explain myself clearly enough? All I was asking the original poster was what he/she believed should replace taxes if she/he believes that "tax is theft and is legal slavery" (from first post in this thread)? I am not debating whether or not governments are using our taxes wisely or whether they have the right to levy them at all.
1
Be careful what you wish for. A government with that kind of power won't stop with banning just the people you don't like.
1
The insurance policy was taken out by a university, not the federal government.
1
The "background" music is overpowering the people speaking.
1
Those that believe this virus is fake or overblown probably also don't believe the official death count either.
1
Spam, the grocery item, was around ages and ages before spam, the unwanted e-mails and other online communications.
1
I came up with this username for AOL and I've had it ever since.
1
I call baloney sauce on Mr. Zimmerman's assertion that third party/independent candidates are "spoilers". The goal of any candidate, regardless of party affiliation (or lack thereof), is to try and convince the most number of people to vote for him/her. If she/he can't accomplish that, the fault lies with the candidate, not his/her competitors.
1
Not everyone is suited for the military.
1
Deport who? The Americans who already left to live in Mexico?
1
When I took algebra in high school and college, I had to draw my own graphs.
1
Just the type of post I'd expect from someone who uses the word "woke".
1
@Anthony R: Ever hear of a solar power plant contaminating its surrounding area with radiation after an accident?
1
Which has what to do with the Supreme Court and whether or not it needs reform?
1
Both sides engaged in unprofessional behavior that night. Other than polite clapping, there shouldn't be any outbursts, regardless if they are supporting or dissing the President.
1
We have that problem in the US as well in regards to people using the ER as a primary care clinic.
