I love the term "active slacker"! 😆 I used to work with such a person. The bizarre thing is that if he'd put as much effort into working as he did into avoiding work, he'd have been quite productive!

"If you're drinking to get drunk, beer is a waste of time...". Damn! That's an accurate but cutting insight for those of us that like to pretend we're sophisticated drinkers!

In the UK, police are sometimes called "The Filth" by people who don't like them! 😅

Don't underestimate the importance of a strong agricultural sector. Here in the UK, our government is trying to destroy farming for reasons best known to themselves (personally, I suspect "insanity" may be a factor), so we're going to need to import our food from somewhere...

It all seems rather "sexless"...I mean, Western popular music is/was basically about "getting down" to a large extent. Soviet popular music seems like it was more kind of "cultural" and "cerebral".

Homer Simpson: "What country does this car come from?" Salesman: "It no longer exists, but it will do over 50 hectares on a single tank of kerosene."

@carkawalakhatulistiwa I have literally no idea what your remark has to do with my original comment. Just to set you straight on a couple of points, though: I never said capitalism is "better"...I don't know what you mean by "better"...all economic systems have their faults. Capitalism has been willingly embraced by far more people throughout history than communism, however. Western countries utilise resources from the Third World, and in return give financial, material and educational aid to the Third World in order to drag it out of the neolithic age...generally fruitlessly, it seems. The US has the biggest national debt of any country in the entire history of the world...I don't think you can claim they have vast reserves of money.

I saw "Red Heat"! I thought every in Soviet swimming pools had to be naked!

Finns visiting Leningrad for cheap alcohol reminds me of a story from Britain: Wales used to have a "dry Sunday" policy (no alcohol sales on a Sunday), so ferries from Liverpool (in England, but close to Wales) would come over to Wales, pick up passengers, sail them to Liverpool and back again...not because they wanted to go to Liverpool, but because they could drink on the ferry! I think one of Ringo Starr's jobs before he was in The Beatles was as a steward on such a ferry.

I much prefer the Estonian original of "Honky-tonk Woman" to the Rolling Stones' cover.

@joe_moms_lover That's because the ones that didn't love the Soviet Union were "purged" by various brutal means...
8
Nice to see that Samantha Fox (4:30) busted into the Soviet Union! 😁
8
You're lucky: you're still allowed to celebrate your national heroes. In Britain, all our historical heroes are being rewritten as villains by rabid "woke" haters.
7
We have the opposite problem in the UK: the population figures are underestimated, so we don't notice how out of control immigration is...☹
6
I've heard of people licking toads to get high, but I didn't know lizards also had this property!
6
Damn, I need a drink after that!
6
In Soviet Russia, dough kneads you...
6
It was sloppy procedures by the German military that helped Alan Turing and Station-X to decrypt the Enigma Codes.

@brainbah If we want to eat, we're all forced into a job in one way or another, regardless of what political system we're under. You know how the old expression goes: "Communism is the exploitation of man by his fellow man, and Capitalism is the exact opposite."
5
In Britain, the "Dangerous Razor" is called a "Cut-Throat Razor"!
5
Wow! Cigarettes and alcohol for sale in a pharmacy...?!? 🤯 Even the UK hasn't sunk that far (yet...).
5
3.6 ounces is pretty slim pickings by Korean standards...
5
Was that a jet powered train at 2:37? 🤯
5
I guess watching Brezhnev in his dotage must have been a bit like watching Biden now...
5
It was his 7 Ruble note that gave him away...😆
5
The only time I've had to queue outside a shop was when the covid restrictions kicked in in 2020...most supermarkets in Britain had a "one out, one in" policy. Thankfully, those days seem to be behind us...
4
Cheaper and easier to burn out humans...
4
How is it possible for Americans to use 100 kilos of detergent per year...? 🤯
4
Totally. There's a lot more satisfaction to be had from making something useful than there is from doing the pointless "quaternary sector" non-jobs that seem to abound in many western countries these days.
4
I'd like to see a vid on Soviet beer...all the different styles and tastes...
4
My dad was an alcoholic, too. Scotch whisky was his poison of choice, rather than vodka.
4
The girls at 6:13 are very cute in a nerdy-chic kind of way.
4
The filling level of some of the bottles looks a bit variable...I guess there was a scramble to get the fullest ones...
4
Exactly the point I make when people question the moon landings...the Russians would have tracked the capsule all the way to the moon, and would certainly have cried "foul" at the time if it had been fake...
4
All them corn fields...
4
The main thing I've learnt from the Ushanka Show is that all Soviet young women were very pretty!
4
17:05 ...I wish I had a knob that could feasibly be mistaken for a cucumber (by which I mean green and watery)...
3
Hard liquor really is vile poison if abused...it rots you physically, mentally and spiritually.
3
When my dad stopped smoking, he started using this vile product called snuff (powdered tobacco that you snort in a manner similar to cocaine)...was there anything similar in the Soviet Union?
3
I think you're right that one day there will be a single global language...I suspect it will be Han Chinese rather then English, though...
3
...On the other hand, you were spared the horrors of "Spam", "Smash" and "Vesta Curry", like we had in the UK...🤢
3
@kitkat47chrysalis95 I'd say he was poorly adapted, since he's dead now...too many smoke-breaks...
3
...If you're focussing on the stereo at 8:48 then you are a VERY dedicated audio enthusiast...
3
This is Just Stop Oil's vision of progress...
3
I think it's probably a kind of badge of allegiance. We have a similar phenomenon in Britain to "gopniks" that we call "chavs"...they all wear Burberry and Rockport clothing, so they can be identified.
3
No football?!? On a winter Saturday afternoon in 1980s Britain, you could virtually guarantee there'd be some kind of football on TV...
3
You used to be able to get 3 l bottles of coke in the UK, but I haven't seen them for many years. I guess the health police stepped in...
3
Ironically, the BBC now spreads propaganda in Britain...
3
Why were dollars called "hard currency"?
2
We had an anecdote about Andropov in the UK, too: he was such a wanker that his 'and drop off! 😂
