  1.  @randymagnum143  That pretty much was the point of the NFA's restrictions on "concealable" guns and suppressors. Eliminate the kind of guns the "criminal element" (i.e., "those people over there") favored, eliminate any cheap workaround they might have, and make it harder for poor people to poach game (by effectively banning "silencers"). Remember, you could get a decent car for the price of just the NFA tax stamp in 1934. $200 was real money in the depths of the Depression, with the dollar pegged to gold at $35/ounce.
