  23.  @bwofficial1776  Cost-cuts during the 90s are a pretty big myth. They were actually spending more than ever trying to keep up with the Japanese. It was really around 2002, a few years after the start of Daimler-Chrysler, where terrible decisions were made. Even more towards the end of the Daimler-Chrysler era. Many point to interior plastic failure and rust issues, etc., but both of those were due to costly experimentation with new methods (lightweight materials to catch up to Japanese plastics dominance, and better corrosion protection methods).

If you are 18 or over you simply need to take a ludicrously easy written test (not remotely as easy or brief in Germany) and an equally as simple driving test. One of each, that's it. In Germany there are many hours of training and studying to do to even qualify. Japan is also nearly a full death lower per 100k registered vehicles than Germany. Not insignificant. If the US's licensing requirements were anywhere close to as strict Germany's it would be fine...

  44. W220 is most reliable S-Class mechanically with the indestructible M112/113 and 722.6 transmission. Airmatic is reliable compared to ABC and super easy to replace yourself. Corrosion issues from a wrong solution at factory were fixed by 2003, but there are still plenty of pre-2003 cars that didn't have terrible rust issues. That said, I'd have to pick the S70 or S73 Touring from the 140 series. It just can't get better than those for me

  47. Fisker did a great job on the Z8. Also, dealerships would install the StarTac mobile phones using kits. My old W220 S-Class had one. Many people upgraded them to bluetooth modules later on. StarTacs are rare
