I think a harder choice would be this or a Caterham.
1
First manual was an 8th gen Civic Si in 2007.
1
@TedwardDrives I hate what the Si has become. An NA K20 or K24 belongs in the Civic Si! They had more potential.
1
@frozenpete788 Yes, but timing chains are standard maintenance. Makes it all the more impressive.
1
@RyanRoadReaper Yeah, they've been underrated historically because of servere misunderstandings and myths about cost-cutting, etc., which wasn't the case. It was too much risk-taking with new material chemistries and processes that gave them issues like trim breaking and corrosion issues in cold climates. Mechanically the most reliable one (not the V12s).
1
@leviathan5207 It's not like they had to replace all 6 injectors. The average injector usually lasts the life of the vehicle with proper care. Whoever did the work just insisted on replacing them all while they were in there, I suppose.
1
@--LZ--- No need. You don't need anything more than stock or a very mild tune on US public roads
1
Have always loved these
1
Good use of reliable parts.
1
Too bad most everything else on the car is extremely low quality like all American cars of this period.
1
Projecting a bit, are we? Many prominent Japanese automotive journos have criticized the alliance. They want the glory days of the 90s back just as much as everyone else but all realize the emissions standards (dev costs going way up and an ICE uncertainty) are crippling the chances. I certainly wouldn't want Honda to use a GM Ecotec engine in an S2000 revival.
1
Really deep into the Arnold lore here.
1
@panamajack203 So many have been converted
1
If only the steering wheel was the matching red. Might as well match the headliner too.
1
Sadly, Maserati continues to be extremely slow to improve anything.
1
My Lexus from the 90s has absolutely no squeaking or rattling
1
It's just so atrocious. The designers screwed it up with the mid cycle update.
1
Mods are very distasteful but glad you got this opportunity
1
Likely didn't prove to be as safe or reliable. It isn't as close to the body, for one and may not withstand forces properly. I think that design could definitely work though
1
That's not what this car is. It's an amalgamation of W140 structure and W220 subsystems.
1
@TedwardDrives This is only one of the common examples with American drivers that demonstrate why we need more stringent licensing tests in the US representative of Japan (basic automotive maintenance questions, fundamental understanding of physics while driving, etc.). The roads would be safer. Imagine how many accidents are also caused by bald tires, failed brake components, etc., just because the owners are ignorant.
1
If you want to see some photos of just how impressive the quality of these cars is, check out the LFA listing photos on Bring a Trailer. They show the underside in detail.
1
It's pretty nice living in the south and only using summer tires.
1
Really wish they would keep using the 1UR and 3UR engines. It just doesn't need to be changed. It's nearly faultless
1
They do make a version for taller/larger people.
1
They certainly did fix a lot (most) that was wrong with their cars for years.
1
Doesn't matter. Every oil is synthetic now
1
Hope more people appreciate these now that modern design has truly ruined BMW
1
@TedwardDrives Sure, I've seen them all in person. But, no, it does not require that much surface area to achieve desired down force is the point. If these corners are similar to the competition then there's no way the aero isn't stalling out frequently at those low speeds, or at least being too ineffective to justify it. You can get far more entry speed while producing similar down force from reduced wing area. More entry speed also allows a diffuser (which works more efficiently due to proximity to the ground) to work more effectively. All it takes is a driver with enough practice because it's not as natural to drive like this.
1
The original wheels look better
1
You could drive a comparable Sprinter now. See if it holds up in fun factor.
1
@TedwardDrives Both are direct competitors so they're very similar. I'd say they're about the same but you do need to pay more to get the diesel in the Sprinter. I like the options for both. The Transit is probably cheaper to maintain with the cheaper Ford parts but who knows.
1
Structure does use W140 parts
1
The interior of this frankly embarrasses the modern Rolls-Royce Wraith interior. All the nice analog dials and traditional style is so much more luxurious to me.
1
What I was really hoping to see was the optional HUD that's supposed to have augmented reality integration. This one doesn't have it.
1
W220s are underrated. They just need extra rust protection in certain climates (the fault of production engineers using wrong anti-corrosion solution).
1
The Model 3 driver displayed what the ultimate Masshole technique is
1
Please keep driving the unicorn JDM cars.
1
I agree. Add a snap cover with a little seal and it should be fine
1
I actually always preferred the original Murcielago design over the LP640. The fit and finish may not be as good, but doesn't matter to me. I prefer the wheels too, but the later pre-LP640 wheels are my favorite.
1
Yes, the whole area really has great roads
1
@SDav21 Yes, it also does that by holding unlock on the key. Many luxury cars have that feature. I think it started on the W140.
1
@SDav21 There are many features programmed into Mercedes that people don't have a clue about. I've had a 220 for years and knew about the convenience closing from the manual. On these cars holding in recirculate only closes everything up to ensure recirculate works properly. Not sure if that was changed to open as well on newer cars.
1
@SDav21 I'm sure it does on other car but not on mine. "It isn't just to make sure recirculate works properly". Now you're just being a contrarian. What you're saying isn't logical. Slow down and think for a second. The entire point behind assigning the recirculate button to this task is so you can prevent bad smells and ensure that recirculate mode (the process of recirculating interior air, filtering it, and then bringing it back in to prevent bad exterior smells) is not just taking in outside air through open glass. Otherwise they would've just put it on a window switch by holding up for a few seconds.
1
Or they can just do the work themselves
1
@UnrelatedNonsense They absolutely won't last "like any other car". Forced induction engines alone can't last longer than NA without major work, all else held equal. I'd guess you'd need a complete rebuild on these engines by 150k vs. 4x + on something like the GS-F. Depreciation and maintenance considered, I'd rather just drive a Giulia for the same experience.
1
Lamborghini has said the V12 isn't going anywhere.
1
And that's why ICE isn't going anywhere, at least for enthusiasts. Demand will continue to exist for decades
1
@s_t_r_a_y_e_d The need to be precise is the entire point of the feel. And that's why it evolved to be luxurious. A rubbery feel isn't the same
1
8:30 Yeah, that tech had been around long before on luxury cars. Good to know they adapted it for this.
