@ayela562 {{{hugs}}}} to you and your family. I can’t imagine the fear while it was happening and the lasting affect.

Good for you, Carol. I’m so tired of the entitlement attitude of so many people these day. I hope you and Lindy have a fantastic trip!! I live vicariously through your channels.
5
I started drawing my SS three years after my husband started drawing his. I was automatically given an increase because my check wasn’t 50% of my husbands.

This is partly why, back in 1970, the Gray Panthers formed. It’s disgusting that people who work hard to have their home paid off by the time they retire end up having to sell it due to the property tax and skyrocketing homeowner’s insurance premiums. My husband and I bought our house in 2007 and, since then, the property tax has more than doubled. Add to that the increase in homeowners insurance, and those two combined are more than our mortgage payment.

What a gorgeous piece of land!

What a sweet couple. How blessed they are to have good health at their age! (I have to admit it makes me a bit nervous to think of him driving this huge setup).
4
My mom used to always use that saying (only she used the b word in stead of complain).
4
Just one more reason to avoid congested cities.
4
Quite the set up. Are they on BLM land? I’m wondering how Randy is allowed to set something like this up. Does he have to tear it down snd move it every two weeks?
4
I didn’t know you travel with a dog. Cuddles is a cutie. I’m glad you were able to work this out for cuddles. The heat in the SW has been unreal. One suggestion on the venting tube. If you wrap, say, a lightweight fleece blanket around it, it will block some of the heat that comes off the vent tube.

What an awesome lady! I understand about socializing and alcohol. I don’t consume alcohol. It’s a personal choice, I just don’t like how my body reacts to it. At social gatherings, I could tell people around me, who were drinking, felt either uncomfortable or awkward around me.
4
She’s amazing. More power to her! I’m too claustrophobic. So many questions! How does she dress/undress in the car? Maneuver herself to go to the bathroom? She’s fortunate her son can work on the car. My son had one of these and he had so much trouble finding people to work on it. Even getting new tires was difficult.

@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 - Yes, poor insurance companies. Heaven forbid they lose some profits and have to cut executive compensation….
4
This seems like a perfect set up.

@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 - The merger is being fought for that very reason.

I watched a documentary awhile back called “Half Homeless: Living in Cars” . I think a lot of it was filmed in San Diego. I think I prefer the term unhoused. To me, if someone doesn’t have the basic necessities for living (a place to cook and care for one’s hygiene; a place to sleep comfortably); a place that feels safe and protects one from the elements. If someone lives an RV with those necessities, they just don’t have land with a fixed address. My heart breaks for the people living in makeshift shelters they leave them vulnerable to the weather as well as being easily victimized.

@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 - Thanks, Carol.

Don’t fall for the replies about “Mr Cox”, those are most likely from scammers.

Any updates on Ginger?
3
She actually has just built out a Ram Promaster City van. Her YT channel is Lulu’s Way
3
Cat - I’m sending you good vibes! I hope you’re doing well. My best friend is 3 years out from surviving stage 4 colon and liver cancer. I believe attitude is everything! 🙏🙏🙏 Carol - do you have an update on Cat?
3
@ - The $15 a month is what’s left after the part B premium increase is factored in but my supplement plan will probably increase in June and wipe out that $15.
3
@Outdooracademe - Yet, she’s very fortunate that she and her ex were on good terms and this helped her to keep her home.
3
Lindy addressed this in one of her videos, too. People need to mind their own business!! We’re living in polarized times. It’s sad. I can’t imagine acting the way some people are acting.
3
@kookietherapy9398 - We own our home.

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. We are headed towards an even greater crisis with not as many people in the workforce and more and more boomers retiring. I don’t want to start an argument but this is a fact - elections have consequences. One of the first things the new Speaker of the house has done is to form a “debt commission”. One of its main focuses is cutting Social Security and Medicare. Meanwhile, that same party oversaw the largest tax break for the wealthy we’ve seen in recent times.
3
Elections have consequences…. They want to cut SS and Medicare to give their billionaire buddies another tax break.

This is why I support universal health care for all. Secondly, the government need to build truly affordable housing for seniors that is not as needs-base as it is now. My sister could qualify for subsidized housing (she lives totally off social security as she is disabled) but, if she were to move into subsidized housing, she would lose the help she gets from the state that pays her Medicare part B as well as all her copays and prescriptions. Meanwhile, her rent keeps going up every year. Thankfully, in OR, there are protections for renters that set a max percentage the landlords are allowed to increase rent. In 2022, it was just under 10% and in 2023, it’s 14.6%. This increase will basically eat up her social security increase.

Von’s is part of Albertson’s now, as is Safeway, and their prices are absolutely ridiculous! I needed some clam juice but Walmart was out (price there is $2.43 a bottle) so I stopped at Safeway and the same brand and bottle size wax $4.49!! Now, Albertson’s wants to buy/merge with Kroger. If that is allowed to happen, that means they will control a large part of the grocery stores in some regions.
2
@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 - Yes. I can’t imagine the fear and stress it causes them.
2
This sweet woman needs a Go Fund Me! How one’s children can let their mother live like this is beyond me.
2
The food there looks so yummy!!! One of the downsides of living out in the boonies here in eastern OR is lack of awesome food like this. My husband and I rarely eat out because, as he puts it, “Why eat out when my wife makes better food”?
2
@IvyAndBoAndMe - Oh, that’s right. I forgot you can stay there without having to move every two weeks.
2
What is FD assistance?
2
It’s a sad commentary on life today but it’s not worth the risk confronting people. Even with the kindest approach, you never know who is easily “set off”.
2
This may sound depressing and conspiratorial, but I honestly think that the PTB really want low income people to just die. They create laws that make it difficult for those without a decent amount of resources to survive. With robots set to eliminate millions of blue collar jobs, there will only be more and more poor people with each passing year.

Anyone who DOESN’T think the federal government is monitoring social media has been hiding in a cave. The only alternative at this point is to not use social media. This just happened - a 66 year old women in AZ, Penny McCarthy, was arrested at gunpoint by federal marshals, claiming she was a 70 year old woman who was wanted for a parole violation (for a non violent offense) in Oklahoma. It sounds like way the Feds hit on her was by using facial recognition software. They entered the wanted woman’s photo then ran a search and came up with Ms McCarthy’s photo on her Facebook profile. I’ll need to research this myself to really understand what those two men are saying. Forbes is extremely right leaning so their stories are slanted to the right.

@elsathal7359 - you have a very negative attitude. Why are you posting here if you’re just going to be negative?
2
I agree with you, Carol, and heartless is not a word that would ever apply to you. I know you have a heart for the homeless, as most of us who follow you do. Our priorities are screwed up, alright - we priority being given to the ultra wealthy. By law, the US has to provide shelter to immigrants seeking asylum. According to the Institute On Taxation And Economic Policy, undocumented immigrants (UI) who work pay about $11.74 BILLION in taxes yet they receive no benefits. It is estimated that UI pay about 8% of their earnings in taxes. To put this in perspective, the top 1% of taxpayers pay an average nationwide effective tax rate of 5.4%. It’s also not true that UI get federal public assistance and health insurance. They may qualify for state assistance but that isn’t common. Here’s the thing. This country could fully care for our citizens and immigrants but our congress is controlled by the wealthy. So, the real question is why do our elected officials give huge tax breaks to the wealthy while passing budgets that hurt the poor more and more? Look at what cuts the republicans are demanding to agree to raise the debt ceiling. Bottom line is elections have consequences and we have the best congress money can buy.

There aren’t safe now but things will fall apart sooner if SCOTUS rules Trump has immunity.

Wow, that is one gorgeous van! I absolutely love the skylight.....one day, hopefully....

@MsCar2008 - Yep.

@ - mine is the 20th

@KARW37 I’m so sorry to hear you going through so much. Unfortunately, it seems like the VA is really good in some area and terrible in others. My best friend is a retired Vet. She was diagnosed with colon and liver cancer about six years ago. She had the colon cancer removed at a non-VA facility (had to do it in a round about way). The Portland, OR VA then took over her treatment as well as performing the surgery to remove the tumors on her liver. So far, she’s doing great.

Hope you feel better soon. Tendonitis is incredibly painful. I used to get it in my wrists and hands from the work I was doing. Another risk of not taking care of tendonitis is the tendon can tear or rupture. This happened to me with the bicep tendon in both arms. I had to have the left one surgically repaired (I’m also left handed) because I couldn’t lift my arm up over my head. Not fun. Alternating heat and cold is actually very helpful as switching back and forth helps with blood flow around the inflamed tendons.

Hi Carol - Thank you for hanging in there to help Theresa. Matthew 25 is the “least of these” verses. I saw a video today that might be a good topic to discuss. I know we usually can’t post links here in the comments so here is the title of the video: Couple surrenders RV after bankruptcy, court rules it's not a home. This happened in Arizona but it could be an issue in many states as more and more people turn to living in RVs, vans and cars.

So many rude and obnoxious people these days. Add to it all the theft and they’re going to ruin it for everyone. I’m sorry that happened to you.
2
I’m a far left flaming democratic socialist but even I feel we need to crack down on crime. This “catch and release” attitude towards criminal, even repeat offenders, is not working!
2
@kimdagnillo8246 - Sounds wonderful. I love Maine. I visited for the first (and only) time in 2014. My husband and I visited Acadia National Park. We fell in love with it.
2
Sounds like that person is envious?
