I really think Charles makes errors of judgement much too often. He just makes the Royal family look weak. To invite those two to the Coronation is inviting more trouble and controversy.

Good point. Actually the Hancock files show them all to be groupthink self- promoters. None of the 'sacred' rules "Follow the Science" etc, had ANY basis in fact. It was all an exercise in manipulating the population as an end in itself.

Jim Bo That's a good question. I believe it's difficult to sack these mandarins, so the best you can do is move them out into less important jobs. But as they know they have considerable power there is a concerted push back. However, I've been encouraged by Dominic Cummings' determined opposition to Whitehall and despite Boris's left leanings I think DC has a sense of mission to clear out the progressives, which he seems to be doing with some success.

I agree with your analysis. This country was on a similar trajectory until MrsT took over. Tough medicine, but it worked. I'm hoping Kemi or Lord Frost can be in line to start the essential push back to something like competence and patriotism. Two very unpopular words in modern Conservative circles.

You have to hit rock bottom before you can turn things around. You have to reach a point where people start to see reality rather than this lazy, soft belly Liberal outlook that has infected everyone. Once the educated elite start to feel threatened by social breakdown, then discussions about change start to happen. All the while it is only 'ordinary people' suffering nothing changes. But it's starting to happen. Our three posh interlocutors see what's going on and feel brave enough to talk about it.

The Brexit party does not have any ministerial experience it's a pressure group not a party capable of running a government. Ukip even more so. The Tories are the main game in town tor people of a right-ish viewpoint. Boris has had every single political hurdle put in front of him.And to a degree he's managed some success but he is fighting all the opposition parties, the speaker, the civil service and the likes of Gina Miller backed by bankers and Soros. Yes, he failed to get us out by the 31st but people like you just want to put the boot in because he couldn't defeat the deep establishment. Your verdict is the simplistic vision of the malcontent.

Sayit AsItIs So in the Brexit party you have Claire Fox, great lady, an atheistic Communist, Anne Widdecombe, a devout Christian Right Winger, and a cross section of society who all agree on one policy. That is not a coherent party with an ideology to run the economy, transport, NHS, the armed forces and education policy. They will be controlled by the civil service due to their lack of ministerial experience. To just say Suzanne Evans wrote a great manifesto is not the same as saying here is a Party ready to run a country.

Sayit AsItIs To some degree I agree with you but the civil service will tear political virgins apart if they get into power. As it is 'Whitehall Mandarins' represent the deep state, they believe their role is to 'guide' ministers down what they believe is the right route for the country and influence policy making. In one way this can provide continuity, in another it seeks to redirect policy in a way that bypasses democracy. That's why I'd be very cautious about having non seasoned politicians in the important jobs. Somehow we need to change the entire ethos of the civil service to actually change the system. And that would be a major task. An obvious example would be Europe, the CS are probably more loyal to the EU than Britain. That needs to change. But identifying the problem and fixing it are two separate things. The Brexit party has no coherent philosophy other than getting out of Europe, we need a proper right wing party to take us forward.

University should be the preserve of the sciences and mathematics. Perhaps history and geography. But no politics and no politically slanted topics or political evaluations of core subjects. Teachers breaking this rule should be sacked and ther department defunded for a period.

In Hungary ALL the opposition parties united trying to defeat Orban in the general election. He won, receiving 2/3 of the vote. That is a society saying we, the majority, are absolutely in agreement with our leadership. It's right the media reflects that majority.

@terryhand I don't think you understand the facts. In the UK, I would say a majority of the population leans to the right, we're a small C Conservative nation, yet our media is dominantly Left, so it's representing the minority views of the cosmopolitan types, not the majority. Orban defeated the progressive Left, the Greens, and the extremes of both sides. All the opposition. Yet the Hungarian media is representative of the 2/3 majority that voted for him. You may not like it, but that's a fair representation. It's not a minority preaching to the majority, like we have in the UK.

@Phil Very interesting. The Rab Butler quote is obviously a partisan view of capitalism and is to some extent true. However. Capitalism, even bad Capitalism, is always better than the Left wing alternative, I submit, because the individual is a free citizen. In the USSR they had grinding poverty and an oppressive state down system that could send you to a Gulag if you tried to resist their authoritarianism. We've always undervalued our western freedom and now it's starting to be picked away at by the state ( all 3 main parties) I think people are starting to see the real value of individual liberty. To expect Capitalism to never screw up and always maintain full employment is in my opinion a pipe dream. Yes, there are crashes, because some aspect of the economy has become overheated, but I think you have to accept that there are bugs in the system. That said, you might get 100 % employment in the USSR, but if that means a dismal experience of factory or field work while Communist officials ride around in black cars and arrest people for wrongthink, I'd rather have our system, warts and all, than theirs. A lot of British socialist intellectuals, enjoying all the benefits of western freedom, lauded Communism in Russia, but never acknowledged the godawful prison-like lives the Russian people were forced to endure.

Every terrible decision this country has made has been for and by the middle class. And it's always the working class that have to dig us out of the mess they create. @MrBuffalo2 Articulating the problems is not "doing" something. In my workplace I have the opportunity to speak to people who are oblivious to 15 minute cities or trans-ing kids or the war in Ukraine, and pose questions, the point of which is to stimulate some kind of journey of discovery. To reach the red pill moment. That's what I'm doing, in the real world with real people, unfortunately somewhat institutionalised, but we try. When you're asking people to completely revise their worldview you don't get instant results.

And the example is the continent of Africa. There is no Wakanda there are no lost Black empires, and the Egyptians were not Black. There are certain truths all racial groups have to own and accept. You only have to read Orwell to realise that the British establishment was riddled with romantic Communist supporters from the 30s through to the 50s. The real value of Britain has always been the long suffering and fair minded British people who have fought and died to protect an establishment that largely despised and patronised them. So, the question is who are the people 'in charge' running this country for? None of this multiculturalism has been endorsed at the ballot box. As far as I can see a smallish group of Leftist media types and various figures behind the scenes seem to be calling the shots. We need to concentrate on those people, call them out and let's get back to being the country we used to be. And that may mean unhooking ourselves culturally and politically from the US where so much of this madness seems to come from.

English Circle Wrong. Blair and his government actively schemed to open the floodgates to European immigrants. Their quote was " to rub the Conservatives nose in diversity". They claimed to expect 5K immigrants from Europe, in their period of office it was closer to 500K. But I was more referring to things like the Multiculturalism, devolution disasters, the Hospital PFI initiatives that cost a fortune and a whole string of 'progressive' policies that have generally backfired. It's possible that some were well meaning mistakes, but mistakes they were. In the same inept manner that Corbyn was allowed to run for leader on the assumption he could never win. Look how that turned out. And Labour's ludicrous EU policy in the last election. Just one more in a string of cock ups.

Bit when a Brit critices the hypocrisy of taking the money and then shitting all over the people who gave it to you, to deal with issues like helping the poor crofters on remote Scottish islands, then apparently, we're the ones fermenting hatred. We all know it's the other way round. The truth is, you and the people with your SNP mindset want to live like children, receiving your pocket money but resenting your reliance on our money. Result? Continuously play the weak victim card, convince yourself that something other people do to help your economy is a kind of oppression, akin to the Nazis in Russia. As it turned out Ukraine should have kept them to deter Russia. Why would you want to peddle half baked conspiracy theories? You're either ignorant, irresponsible or malicious.
