When were the Royal Marines turned into the Royal Marine Commando's as I've heard them referred to as both in the same battle but I've also read of the battles on Crete were we have the Royal Marines in the rear guard only called Royal Marines and an actual force of Commando's who are also only called Commando's

Picture of HMS Hood shows an RAF like Randall like on top of "A" Turret, what is it's meaning, was it a hold over as her time as the pride of the Royal Navy?
2
Eagle 56 was originally listed as lost from a boiler explosion but was then reclassified as a sunk by a U-Boat believed to be U-583. Why did the US Navy consider the ship lost by a boiler explosion over a U-Boat, as i can sort of understand the reasoning as the blast was in that area of the ship and U-Boats seemed to be tasked with targeting merchant ships over warships? And why would the captain of the U-Boat attack an escort over a merchant ship it seems to run counter to what the U-Boats were meant to target?

Its 1915 and the High Seas Fleet comes up with a daring plan, the first stage of the plan is for mine-layers to deploy mines around Scapa Flow with the Battlecruisers and any Battleships that can keep up following close behind to ambush the minesweepers. For security the captains are given written orders but the British discover through radio intercepts that the Germans are told to open the orders so they know something is up, how effective would this have been?
2
Have to admit i was looking for the picture of the Dutch ship in island form and i kept getting The Finnish Battleship its quite annoying.

HMS Thunderchild proving that even in the darkest of times and impossibility of the task humanity and the Royal Navy will not go quietly into that dark abyss but with both fists swinging and guns firing
2

2
In the TV series "Deep Wreak Mysteries" they mention the actions of Able Seaman Malone and how instead of immediately jumping off the HMCS Regina when she was struck a Torpedo but stayed to make depth charges safe, does he deserve the Victoria Cross also can you think of anyone else in the Royal Navy or Commonwealth Navies that should have earned it but didn't?
2
Was there ever an agreed place to put ships spotting planes, as some ships have them in the middle of the ship, some went for the back and on some Italian ones I've seen them on the front ahead of the forward turrets, also what is your personal favorite for the position of the aircraft?
2
Following on from a question on Drydock 213 (Part 2) about the Navy taking over from the Army out of exasperation, has their ever been a war where the Navy has had to "Strap on the carry pants" and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat after the Army was doing so badly that the war was almost lost?
2
On paper should a Swordfish be able to dive bomb and given this feat and other feats in previous videos would it be fair to say that the Swordfish was blessed by the heavens and the nearist thing to an anime character as we'll ever see?
2
Never bet against the Polish never
2
Just a bit of a laugh question but a few times in Star Wars i've seen Imperial Star Destroyers and Venators landing on oceans given their in lore weight and dimensions could they actually float on an ocean?

2
@mills9402 If you mean the Town class Cruiser no that HMS Sheffield was scrapped in 1967. The WW2 Sheffield has the pennent number C24 the Falklands War Sheffield was D80.
2
@seafodder6129 The "S" still stands for Ship for example the Sea Cadets T.S. Seahawk is Training Ship Seahawk even though its not a ship the sames true for a training school using the HMS.

We all know how the Army treated those that we now know had shell shock, but was their any difference in the Navy or was it the same?
2
Your transported back to 1914 and you are the head of the Royal Navy and you have the knowledge you do now what would you do with Beatty and Ralph Seymour to stop their rather poor effects on the Navy maybe make Seymour your secretary or something

Which aircraft that made to or plan to be made to be carrier aircraft should never have been made also which aircraft would have made intresting carrier aircraft?

2
We've seen planes, tanks and other military machines found in odd locations such as gardens and sheds, do you know of any ships found in the naval version of the Garden shed?
2
02:04:30 that is the music for the death of HMS Thunderchild
2
@robertf3479 Aye they want the ship but not to do the work to keep the ship.
2
Which of Axis powers had the best Light and Heavy cruisers and which would you be taking a blowtorch to?
2
@bkjeong4302 @Bk Jeong well i think the Hippers could have been better if they took the unneeded length off (I think its 20 meters, but don't quote me) they kind of got bitten by the same issue the Bismarcks got which was inefficient designing though it wasn't as bad as the Bismarcks.
2
@bkjeong4302 Ok yeah when you put it that way yeah they are worse.
2
@bkjeong4302 Man German ships had some real issues with inefficiency.
2
@bkjeong4302 Not a bad idea but surely Beatty is higher on the list then the Treasury.
2
Assuming all other events remained up till the setting sail for the battle how would midway have been affected if HMS Indomitable or one of her sisters was in Pearl Harbour and in a need for numbers Nimitz brought it along Admiral King be damned. I imagine the British might not be able to do as much as the American carriers but they would at least even the number of carrier hulls and at the end of the day something is better than nothing.
2
Could Admiral Kings hatred of the Royal Navy have been because he saw Seymour and Beatty?
2
Israel Hands Forces the Poles could have used to fight the Germans were stuck facing the Soviets incase of an attack weakening their capabilities in fighting the Germans, thiss became even worse when they got into a two front war with the Soviets in the east and the Germans in the west, the Poles were put in the same posistion as the Germans would find themselves in 1944 and 1945.
2
Israel Hands No it acutally was, the Germans attacked on the 1st of September the Soviets attacked on the 17th of September the Polish forces were still fighting at the time infact the Poles were still fighting to keep Warsaw when the Soviets attacked on the 17th, the Poles didn't stop fighting till the 6th of October, so they were enveloped in fact on the 21st of September, the Soviets and Germans signed a formal agreement co-ordinating their attacks in Poland.
2
