I suspect i know the answer will be but i shall ask: Yamato vs Bismarck and Yamato vs Bismarck and Tirpitz
2
@bkjeong4302 i don't disagree with the first one its just i saw someone trying to argue that Bismarck could easily beat Yamato something i think is only likely if the Yamato's crew pull a Billy Mitchell (Which is basically if Yamato did nothing and left all her doors open) As for the second well i admit that radar and fire control wise the German ships are better but Yamato was meant to go up against such odds with ships like Bismarck and Tirpitz and Yamato's guns are just way more powerful so i think Yamato could easily sink one before sinking the other but she would be badly damaged from the fight, but i'm no expert but i do think the second will be more fun.

Who do you think the worst Royal Navy officer of World War One is
2
Assuming the Germans didn't declare war on the US, much like how the Japanese didn't declare war on the USSR, how would this have affected the balance of power in the Atlantic and Pacific sides of the conflict?
2
@Balmung60 No i'm not complaining about the ships themselves i think they are good ships just being misused and i think they could have made very good fast Battleships like Renown but they needed the armour to do it and they don't have it. My complaint is if Japan wants to put them in the line of battle put some armour on the poor things, the belts the Kongos have is only good for activating the fuses on incoming shells. The Japanese called them Fast Battleships and used them as such but didn't armour them up to make them Battleships, they were still Battlecruisers armourwise and so when they got into fights with a battleship it ended badly for them.
2
@Balmung60 Yes you are correct but it was only on the deck, not the belt armour.
2
@Balmung60 Thats also true, but it could have kept Hiei alive at least, when she got in the fight with the cruisers.
2
@longinogiorda149 I would also put a case for Gunichi Mikawa he did well in Savo Island and yes he did miss a chance to cripple the US force on land but he did have good reasons to turn back when he did.
2
America had plans for war with Britain could we see a battle of the texel like video using the ships that would have been out out at the time the plans were made
2
If the Japanese had taken some of the refits to the Kongo's to make them faster to some of the other battleships which battleships would have benifited the most from the increase to speed?
2
@bkjeong4302 What about the Soryuu and Hiryu, they aren't bad carriers, ok their not as good as the "Big Three" carrier classes, but they are older and they aren't that far behind them they are of comparible speed and their air groups are good. And they were more active they did Pearl and Midway with CARDIV1 but they were also in a Indian ocean raid. Also most of the damage done at Pearl was the bombs not the Torpedos and Dive bombing was their air groups specialty. Also compareing them to CARDIV1 they are much better, their faster then Kaga and i believe they had more planes then Akagi, and they were certianly hit a lot harder then Akagi who took one bomb and was out Soryuu and Hiryuu took three or four bombs each and i'd say in Hiryuu's case if the Damage control was better she could have survived. So i'd say they are best of the rest when it comes to carriers before the Essex's come into action.
2
@bkjeong4302 That is true Zuikaku and Enterprise's rivalry does need more attention and i do agree with you the Shoukaku's are underated their the quite ignored work horses of the Japanese carrier forces.
2
@bkjeong4302 And yes the Illustrious class to they do need more time in the spotlight, i mean they were reinforceing the US Navy for bit (Like USS Robin) so they were fighting in two Navies technically.
2
@bkjeong4302 Yes the Iowa's are to focused on far to much. The Kongo's are less guity as when they had their role given to them it made sense at the time and you could use them to lead crusier squadrons as they are battlecruises and if the Japanese were lacking cruisers they are better then nothing and they actually did go into an actual fight it didn't go well i admit but at least they did actually go into battle.
2
Assuming that through somekind of twist of fate, perhaps guided by the ghost of Nelson, Admiral Sturdy was in charge of 5th Battle Squadron at Jutland how do you think things might change for the British?
2
Oh please make this the UK's christmas number one song please this was to good :)
2
If Renown and Repulse replaced Hiei in the night battle of Guadalcanal could they have made it out and could they have done more damage?
2
Why were the Lexington's in their battlecrusier form have such a thin belt? they have about the same as the Invincible and Indefatigable but those ships were never meant to fight ships with simular firepower and when they did it didn't end well, so did the US not pay attention to Jutland or was something else playing a role.
2
Could you tell us about HMS Stock Force and her captian Harold Auten?
2
Of the ships that received a modernization between the wars, which ships were the biggest missed opportunity for a great modernization? I would expect the Kongos are high up on the list as they had decent firepower and good speed for the time, but their protection was lacking, especially given how the the Japanese used them as battleships but still had battlecruiser armour and as you've said a few times, three of the class could well have survived the blows that sank them.
2
What do you think happened to Flight 19?
2
@Ragefps The UK lost the Warspite and the old woodern Implacable, because the politicians were wasting money on things that went no where, that if not wasted could have saved them both and possibily another ship, but politicians...thanks (Sarcasim)
2
HMS Warspite second rate ship HERESY! fetch me a Commissar right now!
2
@bkjeong4302 i agree with you on this all navies who had carriers were all guilty of putting Battleships and Battlecruisers to escort carriers, but the Kongo's have few actions to distinguish themselves in comparisons to ships like Warspite with her battle record and Yamato and the Kongo's were the main non-carrier capital ships who did something in WW2 for Japan so i think people are using that argument because of a lack other things distinguish them. Which personally i do feel is a shame they were good ships just misused, i mean Krishima did do a number on South Dekota and Hiei did do a lot of damage so they were a force to be reckoned with when they were around.
2
@bkjeong4302 Pretty much and yeah i agree
2
Jingles? when did you arrive?
2
"Drachinifel 500-500" that sounds like a decent warship name.
2
2:50:00 Huh i wasn't aware that the "Promethus School of Running Away From Things" had a classes of the military.
2
What are some of your most infamous examples of officers that make you go "Whose side are you on?"
2
28:00 haha oh that made my day, thanks for that Drach
2
Two part question for you what is your opinion on the Kongo class after their refit to battleships and how good were "Destroyer Leader" type ships like the Tenryuu light cruiser and HMS Valhalla destroyer
2
@PalleRasmussen Ooh thats a hard pick.
2
Do you give any of these model ships names?
2
While searching online i found a picture of USS California and USS Tennessee parked together in the same drydock, why did they do this and was it a one off or was it common practice?
2
Where their any thoughts or plans to make the Fulmars into a fighter/bomber aircraft like the Skua?
2
Drach the Rei Asuka question seems to be a anime question Neon Evangelion if your intrested.
2
@Drachinifel yeah sorry should have warned you on that too my bad.
2
If Enterprise had been caught up in the attack at Pearl Harbour and was damaged, would the US have prioritised her for repair and how would her removal from fleet action have hampered US naval actions, for instance if she wasn't able to escort Hornet and Yorktown had to go instead how would Coral Sea have played out with only Lexington around?
2
How does the guns of HMS Vanguard compare to the guns of the Iowa's?
2
Seeing as the two ships have effectively the same in terms of protection and firepower and it would be a very brave individual to say the Grand Old Lady was a bad ship, is HMS Warspite the perfect counter to the argument that HMS Hood was a bad design?
2
@LiveErrors But thats what i mean Battlecruisers are kind of confussing for me. which is really annoying as two of my favorate classes of ships the Renowns and Kongos are Battlecruisers but i just don't know on the idea that made their design.
2
@paul6026 More than likely it was the former idea as with the best will in the world one battleship agaisnt six carrir four Kongos and dozens of cruisers and destroyers isn't going to do much. Thats not to call the crew cowards its just sense theirs no point in going on a solo suicide mission for nothing. I mean yes in a one on one Nevada would beat a Kongo but one she isn't in a one on one the four Kongo's will likely incircle Nevada like Bismarck or slplit in to two groups like Grap Spee and thats assumeing is survives the attacks of six carrier groups. So i would say she was trying to get out to maneuver or something simular.
2
@bkjeong4302 I think you miss understood i was not planing to try pull multiple Glorious incidents i was more going for a Scharnhorst raiding approch with my plan. As i said with the plan its not perfect and honestly i was just trying eek a tiny bit more out of them then what really happend to them while still keeping them Battlecruisers. If i had the chance i would have before the war done a conversion on them like Kaga and Akagi which would have been intresting to see ten carriers turning up for Pearl Harbour they wouldn't be the best carriers but they might have done better then what actually happened to them.
1
@Katyusha Well if i'm honest i've heard people suggest making them carrier conversions like Kaga or Akagi i wounder how that would have gone.
1
@bkjeong4302 I believe that was an issue the Japanese had lost 4 of their large carriers and those that were left were tied down trying to hold down the US carriers and the Destroyers were busy escorting the carriers or were busy running the Tokyo express for Guadicanal. Yes they had cruisers and they did very well but they didn't have enough so in that case using the Kongo's makes sense they have the speed to keep up with the cruisers.
1
Based on the sinking of hms Glorious and a wargame i played would the japanese have been better not sending southern force the way they went and instead sent them following centre force while swapped the Kongo's for the Fuso's and then send northern force off to attack Halsey while he's attacking northern force in a sort of pincer attack as the planes will be busy attacking northern force and then the new southern force goes for the landing admittedly most of the fleets will be lost but would it have gotten a better result
1
@bkjeong4302 the plan i had and i admit its a stretch is that the us carriers will be busy attacking the japanese carriers so their air groups won't be there to protect the carriers or at least delayed getting back
1
@bkjeong4302 true i will conceded that though give that its Halsey i'm leaning more to him going for a fight then not
1
Did anyone ever make or plan for a 17 inch gun i've seen 11 12 13 14 15 16 and 18 inch guns but no 17 why is that?
