  1. I see girl's friend overload as almost inevitable. Close girl friend groups require work. With each member having the understanding that they become obligated to provide each other with almost limitless emotional support. Then there are the birthdays, lunches, trips and decisions and feelings by committee. Female social networking is work.

  2. Outstanding lecture. Have you considered going the teaching route in your field? By today's standards, it seems most parents, from a couple of generations ago, would be considered seriously neglectful in the area of emotional development of their children.

  3. Did the inner-child revisit to childhood, to settle things with my emotionally absent parents. Rather oddly, I became aware of them as adult kids themselves, just trying to do their best. Compassion for them released me to feel better about us all.

  6. What about all the lying that is a default activity, due to not knowing how to handle the situation for a preferred outcome? I see this as the core issue for lying, going back to the child lying phase that starts around age 3 or 4. As such, people could bring their pre-existing liar into relationships. As well, HEXACO personality inventory says honesty is a personality trait. The study seems a bit too narrow.

  7. My S.O. tried playing the 'controlling card', out of her lack of knowing what else to call receiving negative feedback. Turned out in couples counseling she is a rigid boundary person. Now things are much smoother, because her autonomy does not feel so challenged.

  9. Our standards for our own conduct should be as rigid or loose as our standards for others. Likewise, equivalent standards placed on us by others should be accepted. Double standards for determining betrayal is a no-go arrangement for those with integrity.

  10. I don't really buy into the concept that individual responsibility for promiscuity can be transferred to a hookup cultural origin, any more than responsibility for individual crimes can be transferable to a criminal culture origin.

  11. The legal system judges bad behavior, but also tries to prevent it. Repeat offenses speak for themselves. Healthy shame attunes us to behave better than our 'bad' impulses. Criminals lack this feedback. Toxic shame disrupts healthy shame and creates all sorts of mayhem within the individual and their behaviors. At least this is my view while reading, Healing The Shame That Binds You.

  13. Years ago, my romantic relationships were easy-breezy, or not at all. I did not know that intensity was related to satisfaction. Now, even though I am aware of the deeper types of connections, only insight and personal growth enhancing connections have any interest.

  18. I'm reading The Red Book. It's a bit like taking a hallucinogenic. There are some immediate insights to be had, the rest will take time to work its influence. One aspect, that is my mind-blowing interpretation, is that Jung tries his hand at being God's Psychoanalyst. Why? Well, in part, the poor guy (God) seems to need a lot of reassurance.

  27. I have trouble with the shadow explanation for strong negative views of events and people. We are taught what is wrong, that is enough for a negative reaction to the wrong. We don't need personal experience with the wrong. As some insurance for the survival of this comment- May I say, that your hair is looking particularly beautiful. 😅 And TY for a very interesting video.

  29. There are 'The 2 Great Lies' that have been acknowledged about American society, at least from time to time- 1. You can be whatever you want, and, 2. You can have it all... right now. Work/Life Balance is the purpose of the traditional family unit structure- with a dedicated female as homemaker, and a dedicated male as moneymaker. This partnership has been successfully serving homo sapiens for 200k years.

The term ‘nation’ refers to a community or group of people who share the same history, language, descent and a common government. It is common for people to use the terms, country and nation, interchangeably as if there is no difference between the two.

  43. The Italian Job's advice works great for much of the world, where traditional gender roles are valued. The general concept of 'letting boys be boys' has it's balance in 'letting girls be girls. The game was fun when played as mixed doubles rather than as unisex competition.

  48. Given that myth making has been a male endeavor, any siren story originates from male psychology. As part of male psychology then, wouldn't a connection between the male anima unconscious and siren tales be reasonable? In that connection, Freud's death wish makes its way into the siren archetype, giving men a death fantasy, rather than subliminal fear of female, male-hating, revenge.

If I were in the business of psychotherapy, I think I would be very particular about only accepting clients who knew what their goal was, and, who were also highly committed to working towards that goal. A bit like a screening process for a prestigious school or workplace, it would be an honor to be in the program.
