  2. I left the uk in 2009 it was a vibrant happy place with a place in the world and a great NHS - Ive watched it utterly collapse from over here in Bulgaria. Meanwhile, in that time our dirt roads have been replaces by brand new glass smooth highways with brand new battery electric busses, the old communist hospitals replaced by shiny news ones, the commi block renovated and insulated, the high streets made to thrive with town centre investment, wages have gone up 300%, Trabants replaces with BMW's. YET house building means you can still buy a house for £50k or an apartment for £30k.

  20. MY GRANDMOTHER lived in Wakefield - she took in 2 Jewish refugees in c1940, this made her very unpopular at the time "there goes the neighbourhood" was the attitude It changes later and she was the hero of the neighbourhood. But the hypocrisy of people was the story we were told as kids.

  21. THE PRE 1985 RAAC is not a big issue - the panel size was 750 x 1200mm - Thatcher deregulated the building industry in 1985 which allowed for 1200 x 6000mm RAAC slabs to be used. This was to allow the cheap and profitable building of public buildings by private contractors. Prior to this RAAC manufacture had actually been stopped in the UK in 1982. I spent the morning reading about it - I strongly suggest people do. This was known to be sh!t at the time.

  25. SKYS FLIGHT SAFETY EXPERT said if it had happened in the USA "hundreds would have likely died", the big factor was the Japanese respect for authority and respect for each other. They stayed in their seats and filed out quickly and orderly, helping the old people. I also noted they all had face masks on so this would definitely have helped with breathing

  26. I THINK THIS WAS LIKE BREXIT Prigozhin was not expecting to succeed - he was expecting to have a battle on the road to Moscow where he could settle for a deal... All of a sudden he was 150 miles from Moscow with no opposition and NO PLAN for what to do if he got there. He was setting up a negotiating position and nearly ended up with a 52% majority. when he was aiming for a 48% minority with power.

  41. I WORKED WITH LOTS OF PUBLIC SCHOOL BOYS this is my story... In 1995 I worked for a company in the north of England and earned about £35k as a very good sales person who worked incredibly hard. All the guys down south were ex public school boys from Winchester School, Eton, and Harrow. They played golf all day or went clay pigeon shooting with their friends from school who worked at the big banks in the city. I was daft enough to think they were skiving off work - until I was told the COMPANY paid for this??? WHAT? This was their job - and they were paid £65k. They were paid nearly double what I was paid to have fun with their schoolmates because they all worked at the big banks and the company got massive contracts from them. they worked at the banks got their dads and family friends worked at the banks. The company was paying for the CONTACTS and the FRIENDSHIPS the guys had made at the incredibly expensive schools.

THIS AFFECTS THE COST of all future UK Govt contracts - because the companies now need to take out INSURANCE to cover the possibility of the contract being cancelled when they have committed to the work and turned OTHER jobs down to do it. The security of Govt contracts is why they are sought after and lower prices than commercial contracts.
