I HONESTLY THOUGHT this was going to be a parody when it came on...

UNTIL TODAY the best rear suspension setup I had ever seen was the 1990's Mercedes W140 chassis - it was a work of art - THIS IS BETTER And the merc only has a diff and driveshafts in it - this has 2 motors and the inverters and everything - AND it produces more power in the back axle than the Merc did with a 6L V12 up front in a package not much bigger than the differential.
97
THAT WAS A BRILLIANT example of the utility of car to grid

Towing it back to the top does though

@desktoptotv8352 PLASTICS ARE NOT INHERENTLY BAD it's the proliferation of pointless single-use plastics and ultra-cheap plastic crap that breaks almost instantly and is not recyclable. THAT'S the problem - plastics are in fact amazing. its our misuse of plastics as a society that is the problem.
16
IT DOES NOT HAVE FULL SELF DRIVING it has "I paid $20k for nothing and a promise from Elon it might in the future"
12
I HAVE BEEN "occupant out of position" I was adjusting the radio when I crashed [not paying attention] and that slight shift in position allowed me to rotate around the seat belt and my head hit the windscreen. It was a low-speed cash so it was not a big issue - but it's amazing - just leaning forward and towards the centre of the car 6" can mean the difference between being restrained and not
12
I always find that the people who have to be talked into doing a youtube channel cos they think no one will be interested in what they do - are THE most interesting... Sandy is a case in point.

I was talking to a guy who installed gas plumbing in laboratories. He said Hydrogen will NEVER be used for either home or automotive cos sit is SO leaky. A 150Bar air tight seal can freely pass H. Any area they install H in - and this is with stainless steel laboratory-grade plumbing wiht annual inspections - they install ventilation cos they assume it WILL leak. He said H will be dead after a few people get blown up in their garages as the system leaks when a few years old.
11
@VoxelLoop - Yeah - each motor is no bigger than the diff on an S600. I have seen coke can sized high voltage DC motors that are 12kw or 15kw - they are utterly insane power density.

6
@grahameida7163 - Exactly the same suspension unit as the S600 and yes very very similar to this unit. Only this is packaged even more neatly.

HAHAHA - I just commented this: IVE OWNED EVERY MODEL MERCEDES S CLASS from 1994 to 2012 - 4 door and coupe in every model NO WAY ID BUY A MERCEDES ELECTRIC Every model merc got worse for build quality and more electronics and the electronics were pathetically unreliable. When a car was 90% engineering Mercedes made the best cars in the world - as cars became mobile computers Mercs became terrible. The last one, a 2012 CL500 coupe, I literally gave away. If you did not use it for 3 weeks the battery went flat and it forgot what it was - it had to be towed to Mercedes for reprogramming at €800. I just stopped using it and eventually gave it away.

@markplott4820 NO - CATAGORICALLY NO THEY WOULD NOT. You have never owned or driven a Porsche and I know that from the comment. You are a Tesla fanboy [thats fine] but the absolute LAST thing Porsche want to be is a Tesla. skateboard Design - NO Advanced 4680 cell & Structural battery pack. - NO and CANT its Tesla patent Large DIE cast for Both Axles - NO Supermanifold & Heat pump for Thermal system. - NO Handle and feel exactly like a Porsche - YES I dont LIKE Porsche, but the people who buy Porsche was a PORSCHE that feels and handles LIKE a Porsche, Porsche handle differently to any other car, they have a different feel and that is what people re paying the $$$$ for. You alter any of the things that make a Porsche FEEL like a Porsche and your customers will HATE it. Porsche do not have to try to sell more cars, they are maxed out on capacity with waiting lists, they will not sell 1 more car next year by doing anything, they will sell every car they can possibly make. Porsche stuck with a rear-engined design for 75 years even though its a sh!t design cos their customers loved it - they may never drop the transmission tunnel. Porsche sell a driving experience in the same way a $50,000 vinyl turn table sells a listening experience. "Large DIE cast for Both Axles w/ Discrete modules" - that changes the feel, thats not what people are paying for.

@LesNewell - Im nothing like an expert. Bu this guy has like 30 years of experience with it and other gasses and he said it is THE nightmare gas. It explodes very easily and it is next to impossible to keep in pipes ESPECIALLY as you need incredibly high pressure - like 800 bar. To him the idea of it in cars on roads wiht wear and tear and salt and bumps and things being parked in a garage was literally laughable. He just said people will be blown up, even people in LABS get blown up by it...
5
@junioo3692 HAHAHAHAHAH what are the losses in a 10 foot 12V 0.5A wire V a 48V 0.124A wire - square route of ZERO. NO it makes zero difference to the power consumption, NO its not less complicates, NO it does not reduce wiring - it reduces the COPPER Tesla use and therefore the cost TO TESLA - not to you!!! You pay $120k. What you. get are wires with a "strength" that is much LOWER, that will work harden exponentially quicker, and be way less relaible in the long run,. IF they went to 48V and kept the wires the same or just slightly thinner with way more strands - that would be good - BUT THIS IS A COST SAVING EXCERSISE FOR TESLA and it means you cant buy any 3rd party items like a tail light bulb / LED
5
@junioo3692 YEAH they are moving to 48V cos THEY save about $200 per car in copper...!!! Over say 250k cars a year that is $50 MILLION There is literally NO benefit to you - only massive drawbacks - like the $175 for a tail light bulb they will charge you
5
I saw a video on a flying taxi design with horizontal rotors - it had 3 drive belts on each of the 4 rotor assemblies and my immediate thought was"that will kill people" Any one drive belt slips by 1 tooth and the geometry of the rotors is lost and it crashes.
5
@mik2137 - YOU ARE CORRECT - as I was typing it i had a feeling it was wrong...
4
@b4804514 - I was really shocked, but the seat belt moving just off the top of your shoulder as you lean forwards to mess with a centre mounted radio means it does not catch your upper body and the momentum PIVOTS you out of the upper part of the seat belt, then it grabs you around your stomach and you headbutt the windscreen.
4
That was my first thought, but they would not provide THAT much rigidity and an aluminium U would do just as well and deform just as easily - It must be for "centring"
4
@bob15479 Theis was my other comment: THE TRANSMISSION TUNNEL is almost certainly to make the car "feel" like a Porsche. Porsche are all about the feel of the driving experience and I bet that aluminium bracket you hate is to tune the feel of the chassis. EDIT: the "anti roll bar" that's not connected, I bet that is also chassis tuning ------ YES the engineering cost will be very high. A LOT of this car will be learning how to make an electric car that FEELS like a Porsche, cos thats what the Porsche fan boys endlessly bang on about, thats what they buy, what they pay the $$$ for. As I say I dont like them, but no one does Porsche better than Porsche - if you get what I mean.
4
AS A EUROPEAN I simply can not believe you have to pay for the child's leukaemia care - that is just horrible...
4
@rogerstarkey5390 How in the hell will it be MORE reliable - you know thinner wires fatigue and snap more easily right...??? Its CHEAPER - its not more reliable
4
@casualgamer1209 Ethernet-like bus were tried by Mercedes in the S Class - they were a nightmare.
4
It is the feature of democracy that we elect narcissistic morons to run the world and leave guys like this doing their own little thing... I have an uncle similar to Sandy. A farmer and as rough as they come, but incredibly well-read in history, philosophy, economics. He wors a 12 to 16 hour day with his hands yet could give a Yale lecture on philosophy - a more rounded person you could not imagine. And the MP that represents him went from university to politics and has never worked a day in his life, has no interest in his constituents cos its a safe seat...
4
@nigelmckee3058 - YET - QUOTE "Coca-Cola produces some 3 million tons of plastic packaging globally each year – the equivalent of about 200,000 bottles a minute – and it's been branded the world's largest plastic polluter as the vast majority of this never gets recycled"
3
I think Ill wait to see what the reviews are before I waste 30 minutes of my life on Nikola as they seem kinda scammie.
3
All other truck are built to be trucks that do work. I h4t3 the fact you guys in the US drive them as pen!s extensions around town, but at least they are practical for the guys who actually need a truck. This fails as a truck and it fails as a pen!s extension cos it tells the world you like Elon Musk and that is INCEL territory
3
@Mrbfgray - I got to agree. If you are a decent engineer you have left Nikola - every car company is screaming out for engineers - EVEN SANDY Munro is advertising for engineers with EV experience. You would NOT WANT Nikola on your CV with all the scandals and if you stay AFTER the scandals that severely damage your reputation. Ergo - the engineers they currently have are not the best in the industry. Ergo - you are unlikely to be rolling out a new technology.
3
@Mrbfgray - Everyone is for sale to a degree when they have salaries to pay. Do I think he would endorse something he did not believe in - NO. Do I think he would help promote Nikola if the engineers came to him and said "we are trying to move past the scandal and build a real company and we would like to pay you to help us" YES, after due diligence I believe he would. Personally, I think H is a red herring. I think it will never go anywhere. Why - I talked with a guy wiht 40 years of experience installing gas systems for laboratories and he said H is the nightmare gas. Its the "leakiest" gas in the world, a seal that is gas-tight for air at 150 psi is free flow to H. He said in any system that had H piped in that have an extraction system cos they ASSUME it will leak. Adn this is with a yearly inspection and stainless steel fittings. He said H will be dead as an automotive gas after the first few garages explode killing the car owner. He said there is no way on gods earth you can keep it high pressure Hydrogen gas tight in a consumer environment over the life of a car or a truck. They replace seals annually on lad equipment and they still get leaks.

THE AUDIENCE CAPTURE ON THIS CHANNEL IS TOTAL those panel gaps are SO BAD I can clearly see the difference on my computer - if this were a BMW or a Ford - Sandy would be ripping the sh!t out of it saying it was the worst thing he had ever seen...!!! MY GOD 7:33 every gap is V shaped it utterly embarrassing, 418k subscribers and 400k are Elon Stans and Sandi is sucking up to them and keeping thir little pnenie weenies happy - . The rear camara is so bad you crashed a $120k truck and he is saying its "AMAZING". if this was a Kia he would be ripping the Sh!t out of it for that. I was really interested in this teardown - but I dont think Ill bother watching - its just going to be an Elon D1CK sucking operation to keep the Elon Stans happy
3
He has said many times - designing a car is super simple. Designing a rocket is fairly simple. Designing the factory to make them is unbelievably difficult...
3
WAY FUNNIER than I thought it would be...
3
HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA. Its Porsche - It will be next to perfect. And I dont even like Porsche, but I assure you its driving perfection.

@kobbetop - I think I said in reply to someone that the problem is not plastic, its an amazing thing. the problem isOUR ABUSE of plastic as a society. The idea that plastic is disposable is the worst thing we could have come up with. Its very much NOT disposable. I watched a program on industrial archaeology and they were uncovering a factory that had been completely buried in a valley by a landfill in the 1950's and 60's as they dug it up all there was was soil and PLASTIC. Even the tin cans had rotted away - but all the plastic bags and other stuff - all still there the same as the day it went in there...
2
MY OLD MID 2000's Mercedes CL500 would do this - its just adaptive cruise control with lane following...
2
AND THEY OPENED A TACCO STAND I did not see that one coming...
2
I once had a brand new lead-acid battery in the back footwell, it managed to fall over and spill acid over the carpet - which by the next day it had eaten completely away, along with the paint and some metal. yeah accidents happen.
2
AIRPLANES ARE NOT maintained by Bert at the recently converted to "EV's R US" used to be "Diesels R US" grease pit at the end of Grunge Road, Shitville. Thats, why plains are fly by wire and cars, are not.

@HydrogenFuelTechnologies - YOU live in a fantasy world - and if you think H2 is the future you are seriously living in a fantasy world. Talk to some laboratory / industrial gas process engineers and when they have finished laughing at you they will tell you why H2 is a JOKE fuel for the future.
2
@HydrogenFuelTechnologies - NOPE dont think I will STFU cos this is the internet and Ill say what I want. But Il give you credit for knowing that UHP H2 is a joke of a concept for anything domestic. Your comments about the US car industry were delusional though - so odd mix, your not dumb but you are deluded...

MY IDEA OF WHAT A CAR IS has totally changed - I dont want a V8 - i dont want to drive. I WANT a luxurious cube to arrive and me get in, it takes me in quiet and comfort to where I am going. Im NOT bothered about going over 50mph unless its a LONG way, hell im not even bothered about going over 30mph for the average trip. I don't want sporty styling cos that means I am uncomfortable and im not driving and sporty is NO LONGER a thing cos electric sports cars are PAINFUL they are that fast. I have no pride of ownership - cos I dont own it.

I LIVE IN BULGARIA NOW Here they teach kids to be engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, chemical engineers - ENG. is a professional qualification like Dr. People address you are Engineer Petrov. My friend's kid did ELECTRIC AUTOMOTIVE ENGINEERING at SCHOOL, now he is doing 2 years work experience before going to university - which is FREE. OH - they also teach you to drive at school as well. Here they teach kids USEFUL things. We have an amazing number of artists but no "art history" majors...
2
@abraxastulammo9940 - sort of missing my point there...
