It's Hollywood we're talking about after all Also, if the scene is meant to be uncomfortable and uneasy, then it's way too exaggerated. Think about it! We have a completely static scene where people just talk, and the perspective combined with the clumsy editing suggests that the POV just rapidly turns his head to the right and left every 3rd second like someone with tourette syndrome It's also clear to me that you haven't watched any horror movies or psychological thrillers in your life, because if you had, you'd know that long takes is the key to build tension. Heck, even the chaotic rapid cuts of "Requiem for a Dream" had a sense of rhythm to them and some variety (e.g. long take when we get Ellen Burstyn'smonologue). It's only in the final use of a "Lux Aeterna" segment that we get complete chaos, and that's at the very end of the movie after a lot of build-up (and that segment has so much physical action going on in addition to clever visuals and cinematography)

  39. The fast jump cuts doesn't really work when there's so much silence and most of the actors have such deadpan reactions (plus that reactions shot can be done in medium shots). When you see YouTubers for example use jump cuts, then they're almost talking non-stop and the edit follows the beat and flow

I can name one movie from him that truly cements how unremarkable he is as a whole, and thus counters your entire assessment: "Jack"

I don't know about you, but if it was me sitting there and the camera is seen from my perspective, then I wouldn't be turning my face rapidly to the left, right, and center every 1.8 second for something that's just a quiet conversation that doesn't really build up to anything. I would get a seizure if I did that, and the people around me would think that I'm drunk or extremely hyperactive
