Did you believe everything your teacher told you too just because he was "professional" and an "authority"? Also, the Live Aid is sequence is heavily based on the footage from the real-life concert, so that's not really something artistic or creative, especially when it's on par with your average music video

It just means that it requires an actual subject (as in, you who experience something) to use your senses and experiences to judge an object. Even science is subjective despite having truth values "But his genre of film" What genre? He's made romantic dramas, black comedies, historical dramas, sports drama, satire, psychological thrillers, crime films, religious dramas, adventure movies, and everything in-between.

Take the Corona virus for example. Doctors and scientists (in other words, various subjects) claimed at first that the virus had these and these qualities, but when they studied it further, there were new observations that disproved their initial observations and hypotheses. If you didn't read those dumb comic books and instead took some real education, then you might have known this difference. "Yeah, most of those genres don't personally interest me" Well, so much for your taste in movies being diverse. What genres are left when you take those away? "Why do you even care so much what I think anyway" Because it's fun to see someone writing posts where they try to act as if what they're saying is common knowledge, but miserably fails with their argumentation. It's even more fun to see someone not understanding what "subjective" actually means

You basically summed up how I feel about Marvel films: I experience enough shit in my daily life and watch movies for escapism, but then I come across these garbage superhero movies that promise me a wonderful cinematic experience, but leave me with nothing. Thus, I have given up my time and money to unwillingly make a manipulative corporation grow stronger without getting anything in return. Compare this with Studio Ghibli for example where I get mesmerized by the talent and effort put into their movies, and where the ambience and character studies are so strong that I feel like a brand new person afterwards

  31. Clearly you haven't seen many horror movies or psychological thrillers then, because the key to building suspense and tension is actually long or medium takes, not rapid cuts. An exception is of course "Requiem for a Dream", but there a lot of crazy shit is going on, so it's meant to make the audience feel as nauseous and crazy as the characters In this scene, the characters are just standing still with minimal dialogue, and I doubt anyone would constantly rapidly turn their heads to the sides like the camera is suggesting

  40. The original edit doesn't really build any tension either. All it does is giving the audience a seizure. If you wanna build tension, the key is long takes like in most horror movies and thrillers since it's a slow build-up that eventually reaches a culmination. Heck, even "Requiem for a Dream" used a long take during Ellen Burstyn's monologue as a preamble to the chaotic last 40 minutes of the film

Imagine if "Schindler's List" or "Lincoln" was edited like like this. It would just be unintentionally hilarious! Granted, "JFK" has a lot of rapid cuts, but that's mostly when there's much dialogue going on, when we cut to rapid flashbacks, when informants share their views, and when we get the epic climax with all the pieces coming together

When you're creating suspense, you're either using long shots and few cuts (think a typical thriller or horror movie), or you're having cuts that match the energy and intensity of the dialogue and some eventual musical score (think "JFK" and "Requiem for a Dream"). The energy in this scene is slow and relaxed, the cuts happen at arbitrary moments, and the acting is as subtle as bringing a beggar to a stage and expect him to act; it's completely dull and lifeless. If I want subtle acting, then I'll stick to Robert de Niro in "Taxi Driver", Hannibal Lecter in "Silence of the Lambs", and Bob Geldof in "Pink Floyd: The Wall". Even an actor like Sylvester Stallone managed to be subtle in "First Blood" (at least in the beginning)

I still won’t equate Fury Road with MCU movies though; apart from the former having more artistic and well-thought-out editing, production design, and cinematography, there’s actual suspense in it unlike MCU movies who think that action and spectacle without context equal suspense. In addition, MCU movies are very over-the-top and out-of-this-world but still try to act like this is reality and how the world is actually like, unlike “The Matrix” for example whose stylization is integral to its story and themes. I’m also not a big fan of the Rambo sequels for a lot of the same reasons as I don’t like MCU movies, whereas the original “First Blood” had suspense because Rambo not only had a battle against his own PTSD, but was put into life-threatening situations that actually felt realistic, and the aesthetics really highlighted the mood

Like I said, the films are too over-the-top and out-of-this-world and not stylized enough for me wanting to care what's going on to any of these characters; it's like being invited to a party full of light shows, great music, and amazing decorations, but you feel bored because you don't know and thus don't care about any of the guests
