  23. Ima Most of Iraq has benefited from the Iraq War. Saddam Hussein was waging genocide against the Kurds, and murdering thousands more. That ended when he was overthrown. Most of Iraq is relatively safe, and free of ISIS. In fact Iraqi Kurdistan has flourished and is one of the greatest regions in the Middle East.

Looncan OK well if the term 3rd World doesn't suit you, call it something else.  The point is, living under authoritarian and conservative culture breeds extremism, not studying a holy book.  The Koran and the Bible are quite similar.  In fact the Koran being newer, has less extreme restrictions on women, though it is still archaic by modern standards, the Bible is worse.  So, if the Bible isn't inspiring wife-beating and such in the traditionally Christian countries, then it is something else, culture.  Likewise, it is culture in the Middle East and other dictatorships that are inspiring this misogyny.  Islam is irrelevant.  They could all be Christians and the place would largely be the same, all else equal.

Looncan The point is, if taken literally or misconstrued by dishonest or political relgious authorities, the Bible is awful.  This happened centuries ago in the Middle Ages when the Catholic Church was acting decadent, entitled, or just plain exploiting peoples faith for material gain.  But since then, the people have liberalized, yet the Bible has unchanged.  Same thing with Islam.  People, not religion and not the Koran, are to blame for creating culture of oppression.

  44. Looncan Christian countries reformed because those Christian countries underwent periods of progress and liberalization.  They became more open minded, richer, and democratic.  The same could've happened anywhere else.
