  1. Tim Rosenburg I'm calling it like it is.  Israel is a democracy, Palestine is a regime.  Israel has not started any wars with its neighbors, Palestine and the Arab countries however have started several.  Israel is therefore good, and Palestine is therefore bad.

Tim Rosenburg Taking land and displacing civilians is a natural consequence of war, especially when the victor is the one who was also the provoked defender.  Syria got what it deserved, and the Syrians who lived in the Golan Heights were all offered full Israeli citizenship.  Most declined and thus were deported to Syria.  But some chose to remain, and now their lives are much better than they were and would ever have been living under Syria's Baathists like Assad.  I would also love to see proof of Israeli soldiers deliberately killing innocent civilians.  Isolated incidents are also not good evidence.  You also neglect to consider that Palestine targets and kills Israeli civilians all the time, even rewarding its own people for doing so.

Jonathan López I don't see the FARC as a noble group, I see it as gang powered either by greed or megalomania.  Either way, I don't think any of the violence is excusable.  If they have or had grievances, they should've resolved them however, regardless of how difficult that may be.  Innocent people should not die for their agendas.  Maybe the footsoldiers deserve some sort of amnesty, but what about the leaders, who willingly approved of murdering innocent people?  I think they deserve to be punished in some way, and a precedence must be set for insurgents that attacking civilians, police, or military is illegal and immoral.  A peace treaty elevates the FARC and other groups to a level playing field.  Instead of terrorists, they become legitimized for all to see.  That proves that Colombia is weak, and that the terrorists are strong, and that the terrorists can murder and pilfer their way to a better negotiation.  That's not something a lawful country should encourage.

  18. dup  Race and culture are mere social constructs, they are arbitrary, artificial, and non-binding.  Anyways this is also not about cultural or any cultural differences.  Firstly, because this stuff like universal healthcare, tough gun laws, etc, is present in almost every other Western country, from Japan to Canada.  Japan and Canada are definitely not culturally homogeneous, and yet the same policies work and work well.  Therefore, even if the US has a different culture than whoever, this does not necessarily mean that these "lefty" policies will not work in the US.

Things used to be different in the UK, Canada, Australia, Finland (no monarchy) too, but they changed and modernized during the 20th Century.  It's proven to work well there and in other places, just because some people in the past tended to act differently doesn't mean that these programs won't work in the US too.

Lambert Lum The fact is it works, it's better than what the US currently has, it's proven many in many countries and in many instances to work, therefore the US should adopt universal healthcare.  I guess considering the fact that it only works if everyone contributes via taxes, that government must "force" you to contribute and join, but so what?  That's no more Orwellian than forcing everyone to pay taxes for roads, the military, etc.

Fatih Bilkil Russia has nothing to fear from NATO if it acted friendly and like an ally.  US and NATO aren't starting conflicts with Russia, Russia is starting conflicts by repeatedly spreading dictatorships into Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Syria.  Likewise, Ukraine joining NATO shouldn't concern Russia at all, as long as Russia won't attack Ukraine there would be no problems.

  37. Fatih Bilkil Not really necessary, US nationbuilding has proven to work well over decades. And the Arab Spring has proved all along that dictators were never truly stabilizing forces. So ultimately US regime change could be beneficial. Russia also may have fewer bases than the US, but that is meaningless. Russia invaded multiple countries and is promoting war and terror to this day. The US and NATO don't like that.
