@mr8883 Careful there, you are showing your ignorance even more. The car he was killed in was an early prototype, not a vehicle Miles had any experience or track time with. I notice you have neglected to surmise WHO it was that had him killed. My biggest question to you is why the hell would Ford Motor Co ever pay anyone to knock him off when all Ford had to do to get rid of him was to fire him!! Far less risky than having him murdered, wouldn't you say? I would love nothing more than to insult your intelligence..........problem is, there is nothing there to work with! Lol :yougotthis:
1
@mr8883 - You're even a bigger joke than I realized! Answer this one question for me if you can. What benefit to Ford would Miles elimination be???????????????
1
@mr8883 - Well, you certainly do suck at "guessing" a total stranger's political persuasion!! I'll give you a hint by saying I am well aware of the bias in the media and it pisses me off to no end. Beyond that, I absolutely believe that vaccines work. I received a Polio vaccine in the early 1950s in grade school - by the way, they were mandatory then, none of this "nobody can make me get a vaccine." crap like the many defiant idiots today love to say. It's quite obvious that corruption and murder can happen in any organization and there are enough historical examples out there to prove that beyond any doubt. I watch the world news every evening and see and learn about "how corrupt and cruel the world can be." I'll be willing to all but guarantee I have experienced more on this non-perfect planet of ours than you have! Save all your guesswork, as that is all it is.....guesswork, and you can't even get that right. Lol My last comment to you is I am, and have always been, a registered Republican. :text-green-game-over::goodvibes:

The only way John Surtees could have won would be behind the wheel of a GT40 MKll. The Ferrari couldn't hit 200 while the 7 liter MK ll was hitting 218 on The Mulsanne Straight!
1
@Ben Bahadur - The movie was released with two different titles - one for the U.S. and the other for Europe. Le Mans '66 for Europe and Ford vs Ferrari in the U.S. I wouldn't say we know nothing about motorsports. For example, Ford Motor Co has developed cars to run in virtually every kind of motorsport, world wide, and have achieved victories in all of them. We also have unique types of racing created here in the U.S. Motorsport activities are widely followed here so don't try to say we are nothing when it comes to motorsports!
1
He wouldn't have lasted 2 seconds at Ferrari. Either Ferrari would fire him or he'd kill old Enzo! Their opposite personalities would never mesh.
1
@G Dumpling - And just why should they make one now, when they haven't for the last 55 years? Oh, I see, it's because the movie inspired you to say that.
1
You need to read the truth and not let a Hollywood movie, full of misinformation, make your mind up for you! The real villain was the A.C.O., not Ford.
1
@Pulstar - Never heard anyone say the GT40 was a Ford from the ground up. I have, however, heard too many bullshit stories like yours that it was nothing more than a redesigned Lola that Ford bought. The reality me boy is that Ford used the Lola MKVl they purchased purely as a template, an idea study in order to design and create the GT40, since Ford had no previous experience with mid engine racers or endurance racing. When John Wyer failed to produce a reliable, powerful car after two years of nothing but failure at Le Mans, Ford grew impatient and turned the program over to Shelby American, Inc. With the additional help from expert engine builders, Holman Moody, the GT40 finally accomplished what Ford was looking for.
1
The Ford GT 40 was a car whose design and development was the joint effort of the U.S. and the U.K. It was much more than a redesigned Lola Mk6. There was literally nothing of Lola components left in the GT MK ll. Toyota, Mercedes and Honda are made in the U.S., but they are hardly American cars! Roy Lunn was a British ex Patriot who headed the design team of Ray Geddes and Don Frey. His title was Chief Design Engineer for the GT40. He moved to the U.S. in 1958 and became manager of FAV - Ford Advanced Vehicles. After 2 years under British development (or lack there of) the car's final development was given to Shelby American, Holman Moody and Kar Kraft of the U.S. By the time they finished correcting existing problems with the GT - and it still had several issues to deal with, it became the reliable and very successful racing machine that it was.

And your point is..............................??
1
@MudhaffarAdhwa Ford actually stopped after 1967 - the '68 and '69 cars were not Ford sponsored. They were purchased from Ford By John Wyer and raced under Gulf Oil sponsorship.
1
@MudhaffarAdhwa - If Ford kept racing at that level, they would end up just like Ferrari, damn near bankrupt! Ford is involved in enough other forms of racing to satisfy that need.
1
@MudhaffarAdhwa - Ford Motor Co didn't fund the winning car in '68 and '69. John Wyer purchased the production rights and the Ford GT racing program from Ford.

Ford trucks run Ford. Best selling pickup in the U.S. for over 40 years!
1
Yet another one who doesn't know the truth!
1
That's pure poppycock, sir! Miles certainly could have left Ford if he wished, but they were paying him more money than he ever saw, and he would have stayed with them and hopefully run the new car next year.
1
Most of the people at Ford today weren't even alive then, or at least were too young to know better. It was 55 years ago and there is no way a car will be named for a driver who has been gone that long, or they would have already done it.

You really need to smarten up and learn the difference between fact and fiction!
1
The real Leo Beebe was not even close to the character portrayed in the movie.
1
@Lawnmower142 I have plenty of time now that I am retired! Thanks
1
@Quang Lam - Right, and Tinkerbell got her wings from an Airbus!
1
You don't get a lot more than that, based on your comment!
1
@Well_Theres_Your_Problem - What I am trying to explain to you is that simply by being a large, standard car manufacturer with significantly more financial resources, doesn't mean your going to be successful in a specialty racing venue that you have no experience in. The proof of that is in the first 2 years Ford tried to build, with British help and experience, a winning racer, they failed miserably. They had already spent a huge amount of money, but with nothing to show for it except failure! It took the involvement of Shelby American, Inc. in Los Angeles, California to use their talents and make it a winner.
1
Ferrari's only dream was likely a wet one! Lol
1
@Fahad Hasan - That title sure disappeared in 1966 at Le Mans now didn't it!
1
Ahh, yes. "The Heartbreak of America - that's today's Chevrolet." Oh wait a minute, it was "The Heartbeat of America." Lol You're probably too young to remember that TV ad.
1
@baller - You really should learn from reading, and not from Hollywood movies, because your comment shows you haven't a clue about what happened at Le Mans in 1966!
1
@mario riccioni - Great comment, Mario! Most of the young commenters don't know the difference between a movie and a documentary.

Please...save the church sermons for church, where they rightfully belong!

@mr8883 Very lame statements, very lame!
1
@wolololer I just typed escapegoat, as one word like you had done, and my computer recognized that they are not one word. When I typed escape goat like this in two words, it didn't recognize an error!
1
@dralfi7081 - Nope, it was Carroll Shelby's idea that he passed to Leo Beebe.
1
@st3phn158 - Nope, it was Shelby himself who proposed it to Leo Beebe, then they asked HFII.
1
@connellbartling6778 - Leo Beebe was the Director of Racing and head of Special Vehicles, a bit more than a PR Director!
1
@justforlaughs1832 - OK Dilbert! 😁
1
@justforlaughs1832 - To err is human.........guess that leaves you out! Lol 🤓
1
Tell me son, when did Ford piss in your coffee, or have you always harbored such hatred towards them? lol
1
You must have a big house to be able to have a car enter it! Lol
1
@elchamber - Yes, facts are facts, and you would do well to actually read up on them!
1
@sschevmale24 Nope.....the car killed Miles!
1
@martinagiuslia What the hell is there to rewrite?? You make it sound like McLaren was the key figure in the design and development of the Ford GT40. He was a test driver for Ford - that was it! He did provide valuable feedback, which is exactly why he was employed.
1
@sschevmale24 Yes, it was an experimental honeycomb chassis that Ford was working on and it happened to fail at speed costing Ken his life. That is the risk he accepted as a test driver.
1
@Blackbear1986 - Aww, come on! Give it another chance. Show some of that sportsmanship we all know you have. lol
