  13. Have people here ever worked maintaining any kind of large, complex systems? The tech design is only a faint glimmer of complexity. I have, and this is a project management/risk management debacle, not to mention just the industrial safety questions on routine operations and maintenance. If this ever happens, I don't know that I want to live in the government that 'rules' the enterprise.

Had a relative who was hurt because the 'Head of the History Department" basically laughed in his face because he called him up and volunteered to teach a couple real classes on the history of a certain unit in the US Civil War. Some of the issues involved use somewhat contorted language to implement a reasonable program. The issue is cutting through the legalese to make sure justice is served ..., as much as the lawyers and their bright, shiny, profitable Legal System is concerned.

There may be retractions there, but the rest is REAL science, not merely Journalists Do Science word salad.

  31. Somehow, your humour seems a little too dry if you read and seemed to enjoy the entirety of Atlas Shrugged as a satire of capitalism/The American Bidnessman. I had trouble getting through the end of Catch-22, especially the descent into 'Hades' ..., and I really like Catch-22 as one of the best satires out there. I got challenged to read it when I was in my freshman Satire 101 liberal elective, and the professor asked me a question about the required reading, Catch-22; she left out a burst of laughter in front of the entire class and noted, "That was the most blank stare I have EVER seen!". I went back and actually read the book, and now, actually-actually, have my own 1st edition, in vengeance on Buddhist Karma for that moment! Never challenge a somewhat competent engineer!

The equations look like slim column buckling, and the original nuclear physics/engineering professors were PhDs in OTHER disciplines, first, so they reused their previous familiarity/phraseology in one situations in another field of science/engineering, but phraseology that have NO PHYSICAL REALITY in another situation WHY NOT TELL US THAT, PROFESSOR?!

He was far above my current rating, and it was OBVIOUS to me and then corroborated by people who had watched, who told me about it when I had no way to press the issue. Sorta a lucky time from what I saw of the people who continued on the path to oblivion, otherwise.

  44. Been involved with design, licensing, construction, startup, operation, maintenance, and management of complex and hazardous facilities just sitting on the ground. That includes safety and risk management in the design, construction, operation, and shut down phases, where violations of government-mandated standards and even LAWS make you and your entire enterprise subject to civil and criminal penalties; civil and criminal penalties broken down to the INDIVIDUAL level. Na'ah, ain't gonna happen. This idea makes multiple facility nuclear power plant all on one site AND IN OUTER SPACE look like a Putt-Putt Miniature Golf Course. Or, have others here been involved with $$$$billion projects covering decades of planning, designing, constructing and starting up together with operation and maintenance for decades involving such a high tech, extremely hazardous facilities that went as planned, without ginourmous cost overruns and maybe not even an actual completion?! See Common Sense Skeptic channel, and then add those PRACTICAL ENGINEERING ISSUES listed above.

BTW, as this is just as much an OPERATIONAL NIGHTMARE as a tech design, the US Chemical Safety Board has a whole slew of videos on some very basic, simple facilities that killed people just cuz Incompetence. Also, see the numerous Deep Water Horizon reports, of which there are at least 4 major ones from the Presidential board (two different reports with differing degrees of detail), the US Chemical Safety Board, AND the US Dept of Interior. The absolute scale of the ENERGY involved in this idea along with the damage and mayhem a failure could wreak is just astounding.

He is a grifter, taking credit for REAL work of others and pimping his connections to take tacit credit by publishing it with his name at the top. He will then reward, perhaps, students solving those homework assignments with a cheap "Another jelly bean in the jelly bean jar!" minor authorship, with others in the field knowing the real value of those publications. Wonder if people realize how being part of such a paper could poison their career, like the other stories of multiple data fabrication and a lifetime of papers being retracted.
