@Unknown_Ooh Manufactured in 1989 and been in RAF service since 1991.
2
@Randomstuffs261 Good luck. Are they throwing in any free Harpoons? ;)
2
Michael Pezzullo Flying a few old Harriers they bought from us (as your Marine Corp did btw)? Your own navy admit that they like having a Type 45 with them for air cover as it has superior radar to the Burke.
2
At least that particular politician is a reservist.
2
Biden is lucky if he can remember where Afghanistan is today.
2
Have you heard of Reaper and Hellfire? Just a tad more capable than an ISIS VBIED.
2
To be honest I think the Aussies will go with a US boat for practical reasons.
2
@saltymonke3682 Practical reason that the UK does not have the capacity to build more boats for Australia and they will have to wait a long time before the infrastructure and expertise is in place to build nukes themselves.
2
@samuel10125 Corruption bolstered by religion, a deadly partnership.
2
Do you require any more to bash a keyboard Mr Warrior?
2
That's why it actually works and doesn't end up as a heap of smoking wreckage like S400.
2
@Retrosicotte Not that simple, Stinger is multi-spectral.
2
@ScienceChap Then you know that it is the man and not the missile that you try to "counter" with a system like Starstreak. As for Stinger. Yes it is simple to use, but its seeker has come a long way since the "home onto the hottest spot" seekers of early days.
2
Thebossman I only said that it is not that simple to defeat Stinger with a flare.
2
Thebossman No worries mate.

@VanderlyndenJengold No, that was MR4, the AEW Nimrod was 30 years ago.
2
@VanderlyndenJengold You were still wrong. As for the AEW Nimrod the problem was not the airframe but integration of the radar. BAe were attempting to produce a new type of platform utilising two radars mounted in the nose and tail of the aircraft. Had it worked, the design would have eliminated one of the drawbacks of the E-3 type; namely a radar blind spot beneath the aircraft. The AEW Nimrod failed because they aimed too high.
2
@GracesGarden80 Maybe if the European members of NATO had met their obligations Trump (and previous US administrations) would have less to complain about.
2
Did you not notice the gaps between each person, or hear the explanation?
2
@crystalawen Just grow up.
2
@crystalawen I suppose you think the earth is flat too?
2
@crystalawen Well your ideas make about as much sense as belief in a flat earth.
2
@crystalawen Bit hard. I haven't had a working tv since 2011.
2
@mostevil1082 25mm gun pods.
2
The phosphors in early night vision systems produced green light.
2
There are no Astute's for them to buy, so you are talking nonsense
2
I think that attitude is a more recent thing; from people with no close relatives who lived through the war. That said, fighter jocks have always stolen the limelight (no disrespect intended).
2
@Then.72 In what way? They are perfectly "war capable"; they are just too damn expensive to build and operate and offer too few advantages over cheaper, conventionally powered ships.
2
@Then.72 Again, powering a vessel with a nuclear reactor has pros and cons. Nothing about them prevents the vessel engaging successfully in combat. Whatever the type of vessel, the aim is not to get hit.
2
Michael Pezzullo Do you have that comment on copy and paste?
2
Michael Pezzullo You do have it on copy and paste.
2
Yes Ivan
2
Fingers crossed the improvement package will fix the problems with the T45s engines.
2
@GGG19872 A modified Type 26 is certainly one of the hulls under consideration. Reducing the size of the flight deck and hanger is another option to create more space. A new, slightly larger hull design would be my preferred option, but I just want a ship that works and provides the best possible protection to our sailors.
2
@abrahamdozer6273 They were defeated by their lack of access to oil reserves.
2
They cannot take cameras (or any electrical equipment) into explosives areas unless they have been modified and approved for use in explosive environments.
2
@bthestigman9667 I am only responding to suggestions that the UK is about to take the C130 out of service and rely on a mix of C17 and A400 aircraft.
2
@tams805 That's why I would like to hear opinions from the pilots who fly the missions where the C130 might offer an advantage over larger aircraft.
2
@solariss452 Alas, probably true, but it should happen.
2
@GracesGarden80 You make valid points. The radar is good and it might be possible to match the ships system with the SM-6? missile for ABM use. I have often mused on the possibility of a UK "Aegis ashore" capability using the T45's radar system; there is one land based radar for trials purposes, so it should be possible. We have virtually no long range air defence missile capability to counter submarine launched cruise missiles as it stands.
2
Yes Boris
2
I would assume that IFF software etc would be removed at least.
2
@davefarmery8180 "Just" sigh.
2
@davefarmery8180 Nothing involving weaponry is a case of "Just" I'm afraid, especially when it involves modifications to explosive trains.
2
If you are right then women should make up the special forces units. You think 1/1000 males are good enough?
2
That's never going to happen for many reasons, not just cost. Another batch of Astutes would be welcome though.
2
Well that is true. If a manned alien vessel did make it to earth their technology would be so far advanced we would be slaughtered in any conflict.
2
Give the man a break, he's retreating as fast as he can.
2
It is true I have never served, but I was MoD civvie and have worked with many who have. Why would encouraging someone not to give up on an ambition after a setback be deemed as negative?
