Pardon?

I have always thought if you want to neg rep anything you should have to post why in more than 25 letters. I think that might stop such bollox.
3
I was about to say the same thing... but also now thank you to the experts who have provided the model details. Cheers!
3
and save for the fuel to run it ;-)
3
@monyclair5357 that I think is where the saying comes from, and you beat me to it Steve Clarke to translate it!
3
@iatsd the drop bag is the sort of genius I like... totally bloody obvious when you think about it, very low tech, and made from stout canvas like most Land Girls' knickers were! NB - great link, not seen that website before.
3
@2157AF I was wondering if Iain would tell us the weight... thank you for the data
3
I think Ian has been somewhat circumspect with his language on this one - e.g. when the Germans 'took over' Czechoslovakia. I'm here for his knowledge of firearms though, not to debate his choice of pharses with you good people. 🙂
3
@helbent4 a fair point.... I wonder how it will do at auction.
3
@BleedingUranium I agree - but having handled a .303 and a 7.62 version, the bits that matter still impress me in my memory with their weird magic of looking beautiful, sliding in mysterious but meaningful ways, the different colours of their metals.... the best bipod I have ever used, and the lovely way they go pop pop pop and send the bullets where I wished them to go. I am very biased, but they are works of art in my British eyes. And no, I really couldn't get as turned on by a STEN.
3
Completely agree - the same with his back up gun choices.... it's not just about winning but having fun too!!
3
Enjoyed this on HoWaW! So Ian you mentioned the three gun challenge; with your love for turning up at shooting matches with interesting weaponry, what would you use as your shotgun just to be different? I'd love to see you with a traditional side by side myself, in shooting tweeds. And fully loaded tactical hip flask of course.
3
I'd buy that for a dollar!
3
@ginacalabrese3869 I believe it's older than that, from the Latin of the Roman empire; we still use dextrous, from 'dexter' right handed to indicate good hand eye coordination etc. I prefer the term 'cack-handed' - it leaves little to the imagination ;-)
3
Lovely video - a nice piece of history. Off to read Jonathan's take on it, thank you for providing a link Ian. NB - a worthy precursor to the Stupidly Long Rifle L1A1!
3
Good speech! You're only an alcoholic if you lie about your drinking.
3
+Philip Kerry yup I loved mine - could hit Figure 11s 90% of the time at 600m at Leyburn once I'd worked out the wind.
2
Daniel Olbris Pardon?
2
Same for me IRL. Not the same as a Bisley sling for sure but for field shooting, the 'hasty' sling is usually enough if there wasn't a rest for my rifle, and I do/did use it most times. But still good how a simple idea can try to make shooting easier. I like!
2
+Landon Truman as a Brit.... I still think it's a good saying. Some historians refer to the world wars as the European civil war. It's worth thinking about even if you don't ultimately agree. Peace all xx
2
Now I do disagree with that - and I can say that as I live here :-)
2
Jake - if you can reference it that would be great because where you read it and who wrote what you read do make a big difference; eg the old worry of fact vs opinion - I do like to know where these things come from. It's not as if you're against Pershing as I thought you wouldn't be, but in the UK there is a lot of bad history about generals such as Haig, where poor history is quoted as fact, so I am a bit picky about accepting wikihistory if that makes sense? I can only compare to the article on the Owen gun from this site which is good - then look at the comments on it which would suggest Owen had a fully functional SMG ready in 1939 and the 'stupid' government made his life hell. The truth is very different. So - no offence to yourself, I just like to know where these things come from.
2
I wondered too if it was accident or chance. But I like the 7's veneer explanation best iatsd! Thanks for the info all of you. NB - Bakelite does not have an R in it ;-)
2
Stick to singing Johnny, you make a poor criminologist.....
2
+Richard Maunder Handguns are banned in all of the UK*; a few are owned on a Section 5 ticket for very specific purposes, and this is nationwide, not on a regional basis. So could you share the source of your information - or I will be tempted to think you are making things up. I am ready for your pithy response and looking forward to seeing you spell some four letter words correctly. *Edit - I neglected to say Northern Ireland has its own system.
2
Watch the full version if you can guys! But despite some webbing and hats, does anyone else wonder what 2 members of of ZZTop are doing in this video? Only joking Ian - this channel is the best I have found on YouTube, and it's a mine of useful information and is very addicitve NB - well done for all your left handed shooting!!! EDIT - and in a shoot off, to win vs a right handed shooter is even better, but surely not a fair test of the weapons? NB I think it's fair to say that by 1917/1918 British Empire troops had evolved their own combined arms infantry assault teams by 1917 and were as cutting edge as the German approaches used in spring 1918. Sturmtruppen were not unique to Germany. Gary Sheffield or Gordon Corrigan are the best revisionist authors if you wish to read further. Peace to all.

+Laurent Belkacem Yes I completely agree, it's a Model Ten, but it's written Model X for reasons Ian did explain. Use of Roman numerals is common in other European countries. As others have said we do't talk about the German Panzer eye vee tank but the Panzer four etc. Indeed we also refer to World War Two but not World War Eleven, and Henry the Eighth not Henry the vee eye eye eye. NB I believe there was a RAAF Sptifire also modified to carry beer, the Spitfire Mk XXXX

Indeed - memories can be tricky but on the other hand the British can not make War without Tea so even greasy powder flavoured Tea is still Tea. I'll buy one of these next pay day and see what we get!
2
If the camera mike is set to autolevel instead of a set manual level Id be surprised if we could tell any difference - if there was one?
2
Likewise - came here to post what you just posted! Snake!!! Snaaaake!!!
2
according to the NRA article they improvised a moderator and used blankets and mattresses to stifle the sound as much as they could... have a read, you'll like it
2
@unknownmenace1957 116 years? And then some.... from1066 to 1815 approximately, and it's English spelling, not everyone in Britain speaks English (thank goodness!)
2
very well said Sir.
2
@Archangelm127 and when experimental archaeologists get to work on trying to fathom how they did it... my respect increases. Especially when they show it could be done with two planks of wood, some string, and a big pair of balls.
2
"No matter what you do, just stay alive!"
2
The Welsh turned it down too
2
Very very interesting. I've read a lot about the bush war in Rhodesia, seen a lot of photos, and suddenly a lot of it all makes sense. You said the video wasn't that exciting - well it's exciting for you, knelt there wondering if you have a dud or a hangfire before you manually operate the action. Rather you than me! Tahnk you Ian - slainte!
2
Nice vid hope there is a shooting one to follow :-)
2
And my respect also. Bravo Ian! Oh crivvens I have bought myself one. A good source for English speaking readers that I read again and again is: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B003GUBIO8/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 I hope it's ok to include that link Ian?
2
or a couple of tactical muffs?
2
I was waiting for Ian to end the video, and stand up in a) his boxer shorts b) a kilt or c) a tutu Such a lost opportunity.
2
Hopefully you enjoyed the video.... has any one ever said, actually no I didn't? Grat vis, will deffo visit, and what an interesting rifle. Thx Ian!
2
I had to Google Glencarin (sic) Bill, as I only them as lamp glasses due to the shape (and own a few too!)
2
aw no down range footage Ian? :-(
2
Well I was about to do my usual "please call it 7.92 x 57 mm" rant but read up a bit more and looks like I was wrong. What an interesting story though.
2
Sorry - I called it a Bren even when I was told it should be called the LMG, but then again I called the L1A1 a gat.
2
would it be that hard to do with a redoing of the board as a jpeg or PDF to print at home then some clever 3D printing to give you the pieces? Get inventing Braydon Jones, if you can make it. I will buy it.
2
I nevr knew that - fascinating! Thank you.
2
@andrewpease3688 yeah maybe so!
2
yes that would be a good double feature, especially if all done like Rob does it inperiod costume. Oh bring the Bloke and Chap on the Range over too. Should only be a few days worth of video.
