  9. The old WWII films showed lawyers, plumbers, laborers, idiots, and violent criminals all in the same platoon and having to depend on each other under strict discipline. Thats what the draft produced. Now its all about skating out from under responsibilities and isolating yourself only with others with the same viewpoints.

  13. I worked in nursing homes for 25 years. Many deaths. One 20 something chick came in when here grandfather was dying and was outraged at us for not saving him. It was obvious it had never occured to her that people died when old. She expected us to life flight him to Menningers for the brain body transplant that all people got when they were dying. It was very much like Logans Run.

  14. The Chris Pine character is an uncontrollable idiot who gained command by a fluke of cheating. The Shattner character was obviously a company man who served the interests of Star Fleet to the extent that he was rapidly promoted to command at a young age (mid 30s). Thats reality not kiddie fantasy.

  16. I read this in Junior High school. I have never heard it commented on. Roddenbury talked to NASA about how to design the ship. As I recal there was a section on padded bras too. So theres that. They have to glue costumes on well endowed women to prevent wardrobe malfunction. Dr. McCoys Fabrini girlfriend was a knock out. Also Lurches female robot companion. Wow.

  17. It goes back to the early psychology of cinema as an art form as espoused by Eisenstein. The magic of cinema is it gets you to think and play the movie in your head. It should not be a literal retelling of any story. It has to provoke a mental or emotional response in the viewer. The early Star Treks had shit backdrops and special effects, often just colored lights played on a wall. The special effects were not the point, the story was. If anything hyper realism detracts from the viewer response and encourages morony which is what we now have.

  27.  @alonespirit9923  I tend to think each generation is a creation of its grandparents idealism. It takes time for these things to work through society. In the 1960s we wanted the biggest possible cars burning the maximum amount of cheap gas. How did that turn out? People still do and climate be dammed. Unfortunately large amounts of people are just chips off the old block, incapable of independent thinking, not even knowing what it is. And I am describing those who constantly proclaim their independent thinking. Never go with the herd. We could hope our future could be clean abundant inexpensive energy and justice for all. The issue is currently in doubt.
