You don't have to like someone to admit that they are doing the right things most of the time, people including Trump make mistakes, but.... he does have results on his side even if political correctness and the media are not. And frankly I seriously dislike the policies democrats want to push an order of magnitude more.... Trumps antics are at worst an annoyance, and at best they have stirred a stagnate political pot.... which was much needed.
9
To be fair... they have been working on designing the BE3 and BE4 engines... which are competitive with the merlin and raptor engines. Unfortunately they just aren't moving with the same speed as SpaceX.
5
A rampant democrat appears... In all seriousness though, Presidents can only get in the way as they don't have terms long enough to affect anything long term, which is why deep state SLS funding or its predecessors hasn't been toppled for decades (SpaceX isn't the first alternative to SLS style launches they had). Bringing up Joe Biden of all people who is as deep state crap as it gets (and is responsible for most of our worst racist policies on the books) just goes to show how blind and in lack of vision you personally are.
5
Yep such policies are why countries like Brazil are 3rd world still (just barely) and they have no middle class.
4
So... the problem is you have to expend energy to rotate it, so you want as little weight out there as possible, that means all the things that don't need to feel gravity should be near the center. So. spinning four entire starships is probably right out due to weight. Spinning several linked up bigelow modules probably does make the most sense. It woudl also mean the ship would have a better mass to internal volume ratio and require less fuel relative to the volume. Basically starship should only have enough room in it for 100 passengers in chairs + cargo... then it would dock with the ring before continuing to mars.... That would mean a lot of cargo in starship (not spinning) and a lot of room with artificial gravity for passengers in the bigelow modules but I double the first trips will be that way... maybe after there is some establish infrastructure since the interior space of the ship must be enough for people to work and live out of for a time at least....
4
WELCOME TO GOVERNMENT CONTRACTING!
3
Considering Biden basically broke his foot (yep fractured foot playing with dog)... its a wonder if he makes it until January.
3
@islandclub69420 she had to take a break from it, she's otherwise fine as far as we know.
3
Ahem, not save it... waste it on special interests, squander it on welfare, and burn it on the altar of funding abortions globally. I wish we spent all that money and effort on adoptions instead.... the world needs more love and less callous disdain for life. And I'll add to that under Trump we've acutally signed middle east peace agreements which is INSANE and was said to be impossible.
3
Space elevators probably would already work on the moon.... with existing fibers. Mars is also more feasible though still not within the real of existing materials, once carbon nanotube level strength is possible in a prodution fiber it would likely become possible on Mars first due to the significantly lower gravity.
2
They would certainly try to regulate it to death at the very least.
2
@Barskor1 Nope... there is no way to secure such a system whatsoever. In fact I'd support a ban on all non medically required neural interfaces. You are literally talking about putting a system that can directly influence your brain permanently in your head how stupid can people be....yes that stupid.
2
Just a thought... to reduce your workload when it is nice outside perhaps you can make general content to intersperse between recent news updates throughout the year, this way you do more video production during winter months for instance when there is less to do, and you have more free time half the year.
2
Uhm, no... it is likely SLS will never launch purely because it is a pure pork project, and launching means they can't drag it out anymore.
2
She is taking a break she shows up occasionally still. I think perhaps she is pursing other things I don't think they ever went into detail on this. One thing you also have to remember is the channel doesn't always "tow the line" so they dont' always promoted by youtube, as an example I always have to search for thier videos to watch them.. even though they are some of the more interesting and well done videos on the topic... so they don't make as much $$$ from this as they should. Anyway make sure you sub them and the bell also as apparently that has a significant effect these days.
2
Except it would be much more subtle... like the propaganda we see on TV just even more deeply ingrained.
2
Yep, visionaries are literally the best place for money to be spent.... they have the most impact on society and improving the quality of life for all. Taxes are literally the worst place for money to go. Our capitalist system... allows people that have money but aren't very Musklike... to risk their money supporting visionaries needing cash to try something with a hope for a return on profit.
2
Except the idea of holodeck respected the sanctity of a person's mind.... this will literally be cyberwarfare inside your skull.
2
Pretty sure they are gonna tap NASA for that at least initially. Also there are a lot of things they need to figure out to make a Mars mission survivable. Similar to Falcon/Dragon it will take awhile before SH/Starship is human rated and that human rating will likely be initionally with ISS + moon missions etc...
2
@MrGoesBoom The fact is building a space suit that works good enough isn't that hard anymore... it should even be a consideration for canceling a moon mission. I mean we are talking about if they can bend thier knees or walk around outside for twice as long or not... but that is how things go in contract work. Always make the project just difficult enough that you won't 100% be able to pull it off so you can get more funding and other nonsense... even if it delays the project that made your project even on the roadmap.
2
We already have psychological warfare via the media and liberal cinema... but why bother taking a person's mind inch by inch when you can do it directly.
2
@Seastallion Actually ... the funny thing is the democratic party bases most of its campaign on the idea that all people are inherently good (a bad assumption). For instance shoot that bad guy in the knee and he will give up.... when in reality if you shoot a bad guy in the knee he's gonna kill you. The republicans and the founding fathers base their philosophy on the idea that all people are in fact inherently bad, but you can work out a system where these bad influences remain in check, through competition and checks and balances in the government. Any single group when allowed ultimate control is by their very nature bad no matter what they are peddling. You don't have to be nihilistic to take that stance, just realistic... and open to ideas on how to counter the bad issues without impinging too much on freedoms and liberties.
2
Hmm... after all some of us republicans don't like Shelby either for his SLS make work.
2
Catch 22 ... Bezos has enough cash to kick it off possibly though. Also we dont have engines powerful and efficient enough yet either... but you gotta start somewhere.
2
@odysseusrex5908 Why bother servicing Hubble... when you can just replace it with brand new vastly better one at a cheaper cost that a mission to service it? Hubble only has a diameter of 2.4meters... starship has a diameter of 9meters, let that sink in as to how big of a telescope you could fit in a starship.... probably at least an 8meter telescope could fit. Even a modern telescope of the same size would be much better than continuing to service Hubble which is already experiencing severe breakdowns.
1
Technically they could make the around the moon trip a moon landing with the funding NASA has already given them to make Starship moon landing capable.
1
I mean... getting to the moon really just takes a really big rocket, and that is what Superheavy and Starship are.... I don't think there is any reason to think they won't be ready. It would be really cool to build an entire bigelow ISS2 also... in a couple launches.
1
FYI... Biden has not won until all states certify their votes. And even then it is subject to investigation as there is still ongoing proceedings regarding likely fraud. This isn't a partisan statement its just the facts. Historically this is how it has worked also. The current calling of Biden president elect is frankly premature especially considering the extremely suspicious circumstances in the contested states. It's basically a contest of wills at this point... and frankly the only one that can win that is the one that has the evidence on their side.
1
@mikethamm44 You realise NASA basically funded SpaceX into existence right? I mean elon did all the initial work on the original falcon rockets but it was NASA money that saved the company and there is a decent amount of NASA money flowing in now through various programs. And man is NASA getting a lot for their money! Also the commercial space program started up because some of the NASA administrators had the balls to side step the politics. And ever so slowly the whole industry is getting shamed by SpaceX back into competitive shape.... the USA is like a sleeping giant and we have been asleep for awhile but an awaking is happening.
1
I dunno but I really want something to exist with a spinning ring even if it is just for sleeping in. Even sleeping in partial gravity would make ISS missions much easier on astronaughts and would probably help on interplanetary travel too.
1
An Even bigger ISS + mega lunar telescope would be awesome you have to admit. ISS is needed for zero G... far side of the moon is perfect for the ultimate telescope.
1
Mega telescope would be preferable.
1
To a degree, you still need something to launch on those rockets... and most of that is going to come from NASA.
1
That's just because of congress... the best way forward is to continue on the path we have set right now, which means another 4 year Trump term... which as soon as November rolls around we are gonna see a lot more normalcy. Hopefully we can get enough of a majority in congress in house and senate to move forward with reasonable plans rather than bickering and nonsense.
1
The Asteroid mining act is hilarious as it is just another example of regulating things out of existence before they even start.
1
I would consider putting technology on people's heads an absolute power over the media... and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
1
How about we just be honest and say a smart guy decided it was best not to risk his life on a piece of shit... nobody can blame him for that or for being political in how he tapped out. What they said wasnt a slight to him in the least... it's a massive diss to the Boeing capsule though.
1
Consider for a moment, NASA's yearly budget is 22+billion. That is double the estimated development costs of Starship and BFR. So... really NASA has no excuses other than being micromanaged by congress. At some point NASA must transition to modern development styles for all it's projects. Also... consider than the Trump timeline is probably going to be the best for Space, as well as commercial space due to he's deregulatory stances he usually takes, while dems tend to overregulate. Senator Shelby needs to just retire... I think we can all agree on that. I'm a libertarian leaning republican personally and many people are, even many centrist leaning democrats are probably going to vote for Trump considering frankly he's done a ton of good that was truly productive, while most often such things are just hot air. I think the Trump timeline has the best chance for getting something amazing on the moon like massive low gravity telescopes with a base etc... on the moon. Many of the inner cities are turning republican due to the great policies Trump has implemented but its going to be a slow transition due to misinformation from local leaders.
1
I think there is also room for saving money in the military without dropping anything, we need more companies like SpaceX being efficient, rather tha companies like Lockheed and Boeing being money pits. It would be crazy if a moon orbit capable super rocket ends up costing less than our current fleet of F-35s including R&D budget.
1
LOOOOOOOOL.... SLS is a sunk cost fallacy, the fact is it will continue wasting vastly more money that basically the entire rest of the industry... without any results.
1
There is no money for NASA when all the money goes to handouts... frankly I'd rather do without a bit and let NASA do it's think. I'm not rich or poor by USA standards just an average working guy. Heck with less unneeded handouts we might even get a tax cut... that'd be sweet.
1
Funny thing is most republicans dislike things like what Shelby is doing... the only people that care about him are his voters in his state pretty much everybody else hates him. I mean... you don't often find left wingers that are all that chill REEEE!
1
Short answer, no.
1
I identify as a classical liberal like our founding fathers whose principles have held this country together for over 243 years, which means I align most with Republicans. They aren't perfect but they are the most similar to the founding fathers, with a few libertarians sprinkled in they'd be alright.
1
@conorharris2451 The radius would not be great enough.... in a 9m starship you could probably fit something that could expand to 15m for instance which would still require it to be a ring for practical reasons... also i don't think 1G is needed, Mars doesn't even have one G.. it has 0.38G ... so really even 0.25G would probably be enough on starship, but even that would still require a ring, also you want to be far enough away from the center that the pull is relatively constant over your whole body otherwise it would likely be rather uncomfortable. 0.25G would be double the moon's gravity.
1
@odysseusrex5908 HLS and SLS are vaporware as soon as Superheavy + Booster go orbital a few times. We'll see the payloads perhaps adapted and that will be that.
1
@j.jastner8374 Just because you want something doesn't mean your policies will be entirely wrong to achieve it... take for instance how inefficient ACA is/was and out terrible the website for it was. Obamacare is literally the SLS of heathcare. That is the sort of thing that will continue under the dems in every area they control... so all the more reason for them not to control it. I really wish we could have healthcare regulation reform, banning hospital mergers, requring hospitals that are in adjacent countys in low density areas to be sold or unmerged if controlled by the same company to enforce and require hospitals to compete, insurance should be paying same as cash period with publicly published prices. Hospitals would be owned by the same company in metro areas only if it were deemed that the ownership or building of such a hospital increased competition rather than hurt it. A find example of how overregulation hurts heathcare is MRI machines which require licensure to operate in an area and you can't get a new MRI license for an area if it is already served by an existing MRI machine enforcing high MRI procedure costs and preventing competition.
1
A contract with the government literally means nothing if the entire program gets canceled for being incompetent. The USA won't be launching any rocket that will be made a laughing stock of.
1
Bush was a globalist... Trump is a nationalist (not that he hates other nations) but he's competitive, and that sort of thing drives progress. We also lucked out with Elon Musk mostly doing his own thing. You see in a "globalist economy" you don't have a free market... because all the producers for each thing are in different countries. In a nationalistic free market global economy each country makes their own stuff, and when there are shortages they can actually help each other and such... centralizing production of different products in different countries is actually very destabilizing.
1
@livingexcuse3767 That really just isnt' true... almost every use for nuclear materials is non govermental, the government just happens to have some sitting around in missles, but the lions share of it is commercial/industrial.
