Consider what we learned from Biosphere 2 ..... you can't just built a concrete dome and it just work, they had to paint the entire system to prevent gas exchange with the concrete (and were only partly sucessful)... similar challenges would be faced by any Mars habitat. So... you clearly have to send more stuff than just mining gear and a way to seal off a hole as you can't be certain how or what gases might leach into your habitat if it is not fully sealed. Also to live on mars even just a few people would need a larger habitat than even biosphere 2! I think before we send people permanently to mars we need to build a biosphere 3 on earth and that may be an even greater challenge than sending the materials to Mars. Also note that they never noticed these problems at the initial prototype scale for Biosphere 2...

SpaceX should go for broke and land a family on the moon...

Except propellant is cheap... what is expensive is assembly which is for the foreseeable future going to be cheapest on earth. Now building a radio telescope on the far side of the moon does sound like an excellent idea... perhaps even a fixed mega lunar telescope also that could be larger than any purely space bound telescope without having to have any sort of reaction control system.

True... you have to be buying into the false narrative to ever even consider that. Some people just believe them no matter how much proof you have that they are lying. Biden even had the gall to claim that hurricanes, fires and other natural disasters would be less bad under him ... hilarious.

I'm not OK with Nuralink....at all. Genetic modification on the other hand is quite interesting.

That would be an engineering challenge of it's own.... energy wise the only solution that makes sense is a superconductor as it would be mostly self sustaining outside of cooling requirements, but it would still require immense amounts of power to turn on... on the order of more electrical power than the planets entire output... the super conductor would have to be extremely large also as super conductors have current carrying limits that are low enough that the massive amount of current required would be a problem. It would probalby make senes for the superconductor to be a bundle of wires also since if the current had a hotspot it could degrade a section of the ring and cause it to fail.

Yep, the recently signed peace agreements in the middle east never would have happened under Obama or Biden. We have great originalist judges back on the SC, and the fastest way to space is to keep the pedal to the metal!
1
Nope... mars direct is far more efficient than wasting energy to go to the moon first.

Probably just how she learned to enunciate English... she isn't a native speaker. It's probably her 3rd or 4th language since he is living in Munich, not the USA she may also have learned from a non native speaker.

Pray tell why... you think there are social issues with the republicans right? /me glances toward the burning democratic cities.... and the pristine republican ones. Republicans didn't create or cause those problems in any way. Think twice maybe three times before voting for more politicians that are going to setup your local government and poliece to fail you. You know no matter what your personal beliefs you are better off under the republicans because, if your city isn't on fire its a whole lot easier to exercise all of your freedoms.

Science, Science, Science... ALIENS... you lost me there guys. Stick to science, if alients exist they exist... lets quit wasting brainpower on things like that though.

I mean I am in favor of most of what musk is doing with exception of Nuralink I think that could be extremely dangerous to society...

Once you can get a starship to orbit.... then you can get a second one to orbit in about a month, then you can do on orbit refueling.... in about another month... so maybe even 2021 for that as we probably expect orbital flights this year right even with delays that means on orbit refueling shouldn't be delayed that long? In any case... the problem isn't getting people to mars at this point we have a clear path for that... what we do not have is a clear path to keeping people alive on mars.... you have to build something like a biosphere 2 or figure out a way to get a bioengineered plant to grow on mars. I don't think living in a small confined space without something like biosphere 2 is sustainable... you have to be able to walk out your front door and not die... IMO. That probably means some sort of several acre open space in the near term rather than long term.

The earth is not a static magnet.... its an electromagnet created by the flowing and convecting liquids in the outer liquid shell of the earth's core.

Well she was going at it 100% that is for sure... focus focus focus, smile like the sun yah yall see that I didn't fall!
1
It's just a continuation of mankind enslaving themselves to the machine.... at some point you've given so much of yourself in to the machine that you are no longer alive at all.

The problem is Venus is like 500C .... which is high enough not even extremophiles could survive. It may be possible to engineer an extremophile that could survive in that however... and capture the sulfur from the atmosphere after a long period venus might become more earth like.

@SirThreepio I would say highly undesirable humanity already is split and needs to unplug from the media....

Biden isn't planning on anything... the Dems knew they didn't have a candidate than could win so they stuck those two clowns on the ballot.
1
the disadvantage there is that you are applying a lot of force to the whole ship (which is undesirable, the only thing you acutally have to apply force to is the people themselves) which you mostly avoid with the rings.... so less energy is needed to spin up a ring that the whole ship. also inflatable rins wuold be less massive.... for instance 2 B330s would be about 100T 4 would be about 200T.... another problem is the additional mas, of the rings which means you need more fuel to get to mars. :/

You seem to have failed to watch the whole video... why waste our time with your crap. Are you an old obummer lover or something?

Martin You realize every person in the USA with more than a megabuck in the USA is going to get trolled for money in courts? Even if they are 100% squeaky clean and innocent.... Also, Kamala Harris is literally one of the most corrupt AGs in the USA.... she literally jailed more people for pot than anyone else and they said she did it herself and laughed about it!!! I mean lets get right down to it, LGBT people have not been harmed under Trump, and more universal and less special interest group protections are being restored and enforced for the betterment of all Americans not just special groups. and all the havoc is coming from the democrats, and you want me to vote for them... how about NO.
1
@thijshalsema7513 yep, I mean if we find a friggin lithium asteroid... we could stop trashing large portions of the earth. Me being a conservative, I can take a jab so lets field this idea abiogenic SPACE COAL ASTEROID.... LOL. That would acutally be even worse than burning fossil fuels LOL!

SLS is sunk cost fallacy but at least it is a jobs program I guess.. we've wasted more money on worse things. If we get a republican majority perhaps we can get a good reform of healthcare to happen, one that doesn't involve spreading the wealth but by making heathcare affordable and competitive rather than "negotiated" e.g. things like 10 stitches no longer costing $1200 etc.... I mean that should cost 50-100 bucks max right? ACA played right into the hands of the big healthcare companies ensuring they could get as much money as they wanted with much less back and forth with insurance companies on prices... name it and they got it. The only way to fix that is to enforce competition by eliminating hospital mergers, and unmerging hospitals that are too close to each other so people have a choice, also requiring cost to be the same to insurance as if I paid cash, a flat fair rate, no negotiations no chance for double billing.
1
I'm just glad nothing has been thrown into the works that would slow SpaceX down... SLS was never going to stop being built as unfortunately it is a pet jobs program. Trump has been fairly keep on the space program... I hope we do some great things in his next term.
1
@keithmcknight7646 No it's literally because it wouldn't be able to handle that kind of bandwidth.... the only users of SpaceX's services in cities will likely be financial institutions and other high bidders... since it will allow them lower latency links to remote locations.

PORK!

I don't give a sniff about trashing Bezos.... immitation is the purest form of flattery even if you are being a legal jerk in other ways.... its despiration to compete which is great and frankly exactly what even Elon Musk wants for space he doesn't want to be the only guy on the block with a rocket, because that means you don't have a second source and it makes gov contractors nervous rather tahn confident in what you can do... that might seem crazy but that is how commercial providers work, its also exactly why there are Intel and AMD second source CPUs.... and why that relationships exists with extreme cross licensing between them... its so they can guarantee the supply chain comfort to government contracts. Having a legal challenger keeps your legal team on point also... which means SpaceX remains always prepared to just steamroll right through legal issues rather than being stunned by being unprepared for supprise legal attacks and ending up stalling out... the constant attacks are better than infrequent ones. I mean it helps that most of the threats are completely hollow... but those hollow threats could take out other small companies that are less prepared for them that haven't been used to coping with just smashing them down legally. So even though these legal challenges suck... I think they come with the territory and if Bezos wasn't doing it everyone else would be... ULA etc... Even Boeing themselves if they were still even relevant.
1
Yup I'd rather haven an honest answer that I don't 100% like than a lie that sounds sweet to my ears. I'd say the SLS is a bad investment... but it's a jobs program at least, we have wasted more money on worse things before, I hope it blows up on it's first launch so there is no risk of anyone dying on the thing. That's why I stand with any politician that says he wants to get us back to work (because that puts most of the responsibility in my hands where it belongs).
1
@pricelessppp No the rotating cabin is a complete non starter....unless you want people to be continually sick, you want the pull to be roughly equal across your whole body otherwise you'll probably cause as much or more problems than no gravity at all. building a ring also menas the ship itself is spinning slower and you are not spending as much energy on spinning things that don't need to spin.
1
That's the very nature of such a thing its effects would be long lasting and likely addictive, ever seen how addicted kids are to thier Nintendo or adults to cellphones....when it's in your head nobody can call you out for abuse, it's a constant influence and humanity always underestimates the danger of such things.
