Zahawi is not a poor boy from a poor family. His grandfather was governor of the Central Bank in Iraq. He didn't arrive penniless but was privately educated. As the saying goes, he has form with being economical with the truth and it reveals much about his character that he threatened to sue those journalist looking into his tax affairs.

It is hard to take the moral high ground when your morality is as flexible as Oakeshott's.
45
The only culture Dorries has had is the yogurt in her fridge. The high point of her "career" was on "I'm a celebrity" and that was severely stretching the meaning of celebrity.
33
You can judge a man by the company he keeps: AB chose to go on tour with Katie Hopkins š±

This is a mealy mouthed apology. If they had proper standards & diligence doing their job they shouldn't have allowed "Mad Nad" to make these false statements unchallenged at the time. Yet another example of the BBC fawning interviews that are actually speech where the person is allowed to talk out of their fundament.
10
Consequences are for the public not Tories, especially ministers. For Tories morality is both flexible and adaptable.
10
The problem with Tax Havens is that by and large the benefits of tax avoidance are only available to the wealthy therefore they promote & sustain inequality. As Leona Helmsley famously said "We don't pay taxes; only the little people pay taxes"
10
Neil Oliver should have stuck to archaeology. Anything else he has to say in a public forum is akin to asking a hamster to design you a nuclear reactor. Ofcom gets money under false pretences. If they were of any use they wouldn't have granted GB News(sic) a broadcast license.
9
A step in the right direction but still a lot more to do
8
Just like you can't be a candidate if you are bankrupt or a lunatic, then millionaires should be disqualified from standing as an MP. Plus I would put a stop to all former MPs get seats in boardrooms & becoming lobbyists/special advisors to companies.
8
We tried that here but it was cancelled when the rich & middle class objected to equal treatment with the "peasants"

What a glib trolling comment. There was no Soviet pact, it was the Warsaw Pact! NATO is a defensive alliance, so explain the reason why it should be disbanded.
7
Ā @snowyowel7961Ā Oh you are a fool! It was the Tories that appointed Sue Gray in full knowledge of the facts after Simon Case had to recuse himself after an event was held in his office. Tell me how Gray got the Met Police to issue a fix penalty notice to Johnson if he did not do anything wrong.
7
Oakeshott, loathsome woman! Born into privilege with dubious morals and very extreme politics plus a Brexiteer
7
There is an phrase applicable to Mr Sharp, "being economical with the truth".
6
Ā @snowyowel7961Ā Oh you are a Tory fanboy & see conspiracies everywhere to ruin the spotless reputation of your beloved Boris. š¤£

Call me cynical but a competent government would have solved this problem after 13 years. However the Tories don't want to! "Illegal immigration" serves at least 2 purposes: it exercises the racist, xenophobes & right-wing media to support the Tories who claim they will solve the problem; secondly it is a massive distraction from the other problems in the country & the failed policies that dragged the quality of life down to below what it was before the Tories came to power over a decade ago. I challenge anyone to tell me what government department is working efficiently & effectively because from my view point they are all failing.
5
Which they have singly failed to do over the last 13 years
5
There is an element of diversity politics at play. Cressida Dick, I believe, got the job because she was a woman & a lesbian (she had also proved that she was "one of the boys" supporting the system). Don't forget that Braverman got an automatic QC now KC when she became AG ( not a promotion based on merit or ability). Others whose only qualification was loyalty to a person or cause. Farage the Spiv, pub bore and one of the lads despite his public school privilege which he never mentions.
5
Man without shame acts shamelessly, and compulsive liar, deceiver & dissembler exhibits once again that accountability is not in his lexicon. How can he be allowed to corrupt the body politic any-more.
4
The renovation of Parliament is already massively over the huge budget originally set. Back in 2018 the BBC reported "At the moment we're dealing with a figure between Ā£3.5bn and Ā£5.6bn, depending on how the project is approached. The Parliamentary authorities call these "indicative costings"." Work was expected to take 5 years but has overrun due to the pandemic & unforeseen problems. In May of 2021 it was reported "In March, Mr Rees-Mogg claimed costs for Parliamentās restorations could hit Ā£20 billion ā compared to a previous estimate of Ā£4 billion."
4
"High skill, high wage economy" and what have the Tories done to facilitate that over the past 12 years? You would think that anyone with half a brain would organise training of people to fill the jobs of people who left because of Brexit or would no longer be allowed in.
4
Ā @snowyowel7961Ā Your opinion is irrelevant if it ignores facts. Keep repeating the lie that Gray has joined Labour when she has not yet been given permission to accept the offered position and no start date for the new role has been announced.
4
Johnson senior was an MEP & learnt how to milk the system. He is an example of the media obsessed with familiar faces rather than people who know how to communicate ideas, facts and truth. LBC has John Redwood on speed dial to trot out the old, tired drivel about Thatcherism & Brexit.
4
The BBC have a ridiculous position where it wants to "both sides" every point in the name or rather lip-service of impartiality. I refer to a previous comment, they continually have on right-wing think tanks like the IEA & Centre for policy studies, present them as impartial commentators & authoritative voices & yet never question them where their anonymous donations come from.
3
Apparently in years past Sue Gray & Starmer worked together. As it was a good working relationship it is no surprise that he wants to utilising her talents both for the Labour Party & the country. Johnson has not held 1 constituency surgeries the whole time he has been MP for Uxbridge. Meanwhile back in reality the facts speak for themselves there were parties at No. 10, Johnson attended some & must have know about others & he lied about it! Tories didn't challenge the Gray Report previously or her appointment. They can't cry foul now without a scintilla of evidence of bias.
3
My MP always votes for the government & has always defended their position robustly since Cameron that is why he is a minister because of blind loyalty. JRM will remain a lickspittle lackey & toady of Johnson. They both think that they have a birthright to rule.
3
Trolls are everywhere. Sadly YT takes very little action to block accounts and when they do they allow an alter-ego to pop up within hours. The BBC seems to want to cover sport and become Hello magazine rather than a news channel. Even the quality of the World Service is dropping. Fortunately there are good sources here on YT including yourself.
3
We are in this mess due to lunatics & ideologues of the like of Johnson, JRM, Redwood, Bridgen, Tice et al plus the DUP. They wouldn't recognise reality if it kicked them in the ā¾šā½š
3
āDust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou returnā
3
If that happens the the entire staff of the Daily Fail need to be put in the Tower.
3
You are correct

Mad Nad shouts bias and ignores facts

Don't forget the Caste system is alive and well in India. It was Churchill that deported Cossacks to the USSR that he knew would be murdered and/or sent to the gulags because he had given his word to Stalin. It was the Tories in the 1950's that encouraged & facilitated mass immigration from the Caribbean to undermine Trade Unions. Don't forget Theresa May claims to be a Christian & made a show of going to church.
2
Your memory has failed you & given way to popular innuendo. It was Master Mate, Tom the cabin boy & never a sight of seaman stains
2
Ā @tony_w839Ā She was "correcting" Yasmin Alibi-Brown who is not a right-winger &/or government supporter.
2
Brexiteers will never admit failure as it is ALWAYS Remainers fault, real or imagined.
2
This is small beer compared to the PPE scandal but it does show that A. The Tories are financially incontinent and not economically prudent like they want everyone to believe B. that they have a grandiose sense of entitlement. Yo can't tell me that government couldn't have requested items from the national collection that weren't on display to hang on their office walls. How did the "fine art" prints get by the watchdog?
2
The Tate arrest is generation more heat than light in the media who just love to throw the "misogynist" label around liberally. If he is guilty then the law should punish him and any accomplices. Sadly it begs the question of what have the Tories (the party of law & order) done to deal with people being trafficked into the UK be they women for prostitution, people to be forced labour in cannabis farms, car washes or on farms. They run into the hundreds if not thousands. How quickly the poor Vietnamese who died in the shipping container have been forgotten
2
BBC impartiality? Don't make me laugh or I'll 𤢠They can't employ or give enough air time to Tories & the right-wing. Farage on speed dial to be on Today or QT/Any Questions. Lawson until they were forced to stop giving him a regular platform to spout climate change denial, Lamont as an economics "expert", Mark Littlewood of the IEA promoting Thatcherite ideas & never asked where they get their funding from (like Lawson & his "think tank"). John Redwood as if he's a guru rather than a 2nd rate politician. How many jobs to Michael Portillo?
2
In recent Tory governments it seems that your moral compass must be surgically removed
2
The Londongrad laundromat is still working. Plenty of corrupt bankers, lawyers & accountants to do the bidding of the super-rich. Time to abolish non-dom status & to stop ownership of UK property & businesses via shell companies. Tories are corrupt!
2
BBC journalistic standards have fallen in the past 10 or more years. Chasing populism & celebrities, no longer "to educate and inform". The documentary "The Royal Family" created a Faustian pact with the media & with various members have "press secretaries" demonstrates the need for image rather than facts. Anyone with knowledge of events in royal circles since 1066 knows that it is full or rotters, cads, bastards, cheats and murderers, so the current panto is mild in comparison.
2
The Tories have ensured they get the biggest slice of the cake and don't care who goes hungry
2
I don't doubt what you were trying to say but many governments would seem very competent compared to Johnson & Sunak. However let's deconstruct what you wrote: Thatcher, pursued free market economic influence by the twin wankers of Milton Friedman & Alan waters plus the right-wing of the government like Lawson. This led to the "Big bang" of financial deregulation that has produced 2 housing booms & 3 financial crashes. The "share holding democracy" was a fantasy. She sold of council housing at a large discount to bribe voters & prohibited councils using money from the sales to build new council housing. She privatised the utilities which has worked out really well especially with the water monopolies being licenses to print money. Major: to prove a point privatised the railways & look at the success that has been. He appointed Lamont that led to the debacle of the ERM. Saw the rise of the "bastards" & Eurosceptics like Redwood & Bill Cash which he could never deal with. Don't forget his affair with Edwina Curry. Blair/Brown: Carried on with the Tory policies of "right to buy" & PFI/PPP. Never repealed any of the anti-Trade Union legislation. Introduced the internal market to the NHS and expanded its privatisation. Cameron & Osbourne: brought in Austerity which has lead to so many of today's problems & weaken rather than strengthened the economy. It was the idiot Cameron's decision to hold a non-binding referendum to solve an internal Tory party problem without clearly setting out parameters & after narrowly losing said we must abide by the result. Both he & Osbourne rode off into the sunset to earn lots of money & left the Brexit mess behind them. Now you can take off your rose-tinted glasses & see the past 40 years as not the success you thought it was.
2
Almost 13 years of Tory failure. Austerity = epic fail; Brexit referendum to fix Tory infighting = epic fail as vote was advisory & ERG et al continued to fight like rats in a sack; Brexit = epic fail as an act of massive economic self-harm & Brexiteers still not happy.
2
As I commented before Oakeshott is a hypocrite. She threw Vicky Pryce under the bus, a woman she befriended, to get Chris Hune(the ex-husband) charged & sent to prison. She went to Gordonstoun (privilege) & the Times pays her £250k pa to write her drivel & bile.
2
Johnson telling lies to Dorries while she sycophantically gazes at him wishing they were in bed together.
2
The Tory Mantra "Rule are for thee not me"
2
Sorry Prof. Putin will not negotiate. Peace will only come with Russia's defeat & Ukraine regaining all the pre- 2014 territory i.e. the borders guaranteed by the Budapest Memorandum that Russia was a signatory to.
