They don’t have a right to camp out on the parliamentary grounds. And they do not have a right to spit-on and intimidate and take the masks off of members of the public.
17
They are serving the people. The vast majority of the country wants these losers to go home. And it’s illegal to camp out on government property like that.
12
Volkeswagen systems (international company but ultimately German based) but Czech Skoda design.
7
Government land. You’re not allowed to camp out on either.
7
This will be an embarrassment mostly forgotten in a decade.
6
Freedoms?! Freedom to neglect to get yourself vaccinated? What about my freedom to not have to worry about getting infected with The pandemic?
6
Most Canuck’s are laughing at you and all the other moron protesters.
6
Nice to see a positive comment. Auckland must be the most negative city on earth. Most of the comments I see here are just whinging about nothing that can be done about.
5
American cops aren’t exactly a high standard that the NZ police should use as any benchmark. Skoda is another cut above Toyota and two cuts above krappy Korean Kia.
5
@chrismckellar9350 I agree. NZ a short-term thinking, cheapskate, governed nation. Especially national party governments. The irony is that it usually ends up costing the nation more eventually.
5
@chrismckellar9350 Yes that is the latest example. But there have been plenty before. The INCIS police computer database? The HMNZS Charles Upham? Procuring DC-10’s instead of 747’s for Air New Zealand? Making the Auckland harbour bridge only 4 lanes? The FIAT railcar procurement of the 1950s? All from the same party in power, every time…
5
Procurements like this are done via a tender process. Salesmen aren’t involved.

Hear hear. I’m from Wellington and I can’t believe the negativity in the comments section here. More people are complaining that 1) It wasn’t already built years ago or 2) They’re not building a line to the north shore or Airport (which would be dumb IMO) or whatever, than celebrating the positive news. How about it thinking about the future and working toward positive outcomes?
4
@tjfarias102 Well compared to cities in North America and Australia; Auckland traffic is nothing.
3
@kahuswanson9696 You must be born yesterday if you believe that.
3
@Emmanuel4334 Hopefully it will be quicker to train in from Mt Roskill to the Auckland CBD than to take a bus down Dominion road, freeing up some the congestion…
3
Not happening. It's too much money and doesn't improve anything.
3
@ No the MoT is sticking by the conclusions of the 2005 report. Former transport minister Michael wood wasted a lot of money re-visiting the options. But he had to resign and his successor just went back to the old policy (which is the logical best option). National haven’t cancelled anything because nothing has got off of the ground. They just have yet to commit to anything.
2
But most people support vaccine mandates. So she is listening to the people. And the loser protesters need to pipe-down, accept that, and go home.
2
Yeah lovely how those school girls got spat on and had their masks ripped from their faces.
2
@tjfarias102 Clearly you haven’t travelled…
2
@ Melbourne is a bigger city and the state of Victoria has historically invested a lot in public transport. Geelong has a bigger population than Auckland’s north shore and has flat topography between it and Melbourne. The NZ government in the 1950’s (Holland/Holyoake government) made a massive boo-boo on the Auckland harbour bridge in only making it 4 lanes, underestimating the property development that was to come. Building a harbour crossing is difficult and expensive and New Zealand just isn’t a wealthy nation. However; look at how long it takes to get to the Sydney CBD from (say) Merrylands, or to the Brisbane CBD from Logan, and then get back to me.
2
Skoda’s have excellent reliability and service packages. Toyota are you joking? They are the epitome of the average no-frills basic service offered automobile manufacturer.
2
@michaelfulcher3919 Railways have owned the route for decades already.
2
And yet they’d have no problem if they just got themselves vaccinated. No sympathy. They’ve brought this upon themselves with their mentality and willful ignorance. They are mentally children who couldn’t act like adults.
2
Given that there is no such thing as "global police"...
2
@WayToManyAssassins Well Labour was only in power for the 6 years, 12 years apart, between 1949 and 1984. Not much that they could do from the opposition benches.
2
@BigBlueMan118 This will make a lot of other improvements possible and more convenient. It is the logical next upgrade for Auckland’s railway network.
2
@kingnateoh Yeah because if there’s one thing that makes me know if someone knows anything it’s if they own a stock option (sarcasm)…
2
@ “Third world” is actually an obsolete term from the Cold War, but still used by Americans and other poorly educated. But what you mean is a developing nation. Developing nations have large proportions of the population who do not have access to plumbing, electricity, secondary education, paved roads, etc. You clearly have no concept of what those nations are like. Although your posting history and complete simpleton reactionary ideas about the current temporary situation with Auckland’s public transport makes me think you were NZ’s loss and the UK’s gain.
2
@4WDNorth Not sure what Australia has to do with anything. But NZ’s railways are more behind than Australia’s are.
2
@Aggieappa It’s planned to one day double-track, grade separate, and extend the Onehunga branch into Mangere. When that happens: The two stations on the branch will be replaced by one 9-car platform, that will interchange with this station’s platform.
2
Past time. They should’ve done this with no warning while the losers were all huddled up on Sunday.
2
That sounds like self-reassuring.
2
Bring on the rain, hopefully these morons will get colds and/or the flu.
2
@puffinjuice Busway better than nothing. And it can be converted to some form of light rail in the future.
1
@ Nope the harbour crossing study done in 2005, which is still the MoT’s plans, stated the next harbour crossing will be two tunnels with a diameter large enough for 3 lanes of traffic and a light rail corridor (beneath). The northern busway was designed to be converted to a light rail or light metro conveniently:
1
Ahahaha ah no they haven’t.
1
@ Auckland is an easy city to get around. Take a look at most cities in North America, or even Australian cities bar Melbourne and Perth, and then get back to me.
1
@ Oh Auckland sucks in many aspects. Mostly it is a big dull suburb full with dull people living in crummy houses. It’s a great place if you grew up on a farm or if you’re wealthy. But it’s not difficult to get around by automobile, and the public transport system has gradually improved and is ever improving.
1
@ataxpayer723 I said that Perth is among the exceptions. Perth has an economy much larger than Auckland’s due to revenues from the mining industry. You may as well compare Auckland to Singapore.
1
@ataxpayer723 Perth has more than half of Auckland’s GDP per capita added on again. Perth is the capital of a state that has minerals galore to be mined.
1
@Mexzot The northern busway was designed to one day be upgraded to some form of light rail. And the long term plan has been to convert it to a light metro that interchanges at Aotea for 15 years.
1
@NZTotem That’s not true. The Brisbane railway airport link is still seen as a white elephant that loses money.
1
@KarlStephen-l4u The way things are going he’ll be fighting for the red team in the 2025 snap election…
1
It’s only Onehunga. And some of this crossings will be grade separated.
1
@UsmanMughal-lm8pp You do understand that that is just temporary, right?
1
I’m not a fan of her. But there is no way she is as hopeless as Jenny Shipley or Robert Muldoon.
1
Onehunga built up? No offence, but it sounds like you haven’t been out in the world much…
1
Rich how? And he’s you losers ARE the minority. She can “move on” when she loses an election or chooses to resign. Who should “move on” are these losers outside of parliament.
