As I said, its been done already... and proved to be a dumb idea.
1
Its a little complicated but I will try to summarize for you; One of the major flaws in the Wankel design is the extremely high reciprocating and orbiting mass due to the large heavy triangular pistons (aka rotors). The longer the eccentric-crankshaft is, the greater the torsional stress on the shaft and housings... this causes flexing and distortion that results in the piston/rotor contacting and damaging the surface of the housings, allowing greater clearance causes the apex and side seals to not seal properly and fail prematurely. In summary it turned out to be a bad idea, the ideal Wankel engine design is a single chamber, while 2, 3, 4 and 9 chamber stacks have been tried they increase in weight and decrease in reliability as you add more chambers... so its a bad idea, not a good one. If you have any additional questions please feel free to ask. cheers!

The video was produced primarily for entertainment and comedic effect and is full of egregious errors and mistakes... The biggest error is the version of the Wankel engine shown in the video is not even the one designed by Felix Wankel... so many of the concepts mentioned in the video do not even apply. So If you are basing anything you know about Wankel engines on this video? Most of what you know will also be wrong.
1
So? The Wankel is much less efficient as a 4-stroke engine... while it is a very interesting design it was ultimately a failure because it is not as good as other types of internal combustion engines that were very successful.
1
The average driver really doesn't need 600 hp... or want to pay for the additional performance equipment needed to make a 600 hp car safe to drive.
1
The latest versions of the new Corvette currently have VVT (Vtec in Honda speak) and Dodge HEMI engines have VCT (VANOS in BMW terminology)
1
Why can't you buy one???
1
Actually Curtis Wright was the first Wankel KKM engine licensee in 1958. The Wankel-NSU company was purchased by VW in 1969 and was merged with AUDI which still holds any remaining rights to the Wankel design and trademarks.
1
No worries... cheers!
1
The Wankel is dead.
1
All Wankel engines use the exact same 4-stoke operating principles as reciprocating Otto and Diesel engine do...
1
Sooner or later Toyota will own majority control of Mazda... just like Ford did for decades.
1
Why not just use a piston the first time and burn all the fuel efficiently the same time??? That is what all the engine manufacturers do now, even Mazda.
1
Yes, Wankel engines are a waste of time...
1
This Month is the 7th anniversary of the end of RX production, on Thursday June 21, 2012 at 4:30pm the final RX-8 car ever to be produced rolled off the assembly line, the last RX model to ever be produced by Mazda.
1
Just answer the simple question... "Please explain why you would want a gasoline fuel that acts like Diesel fuel??? and how that would solve the flaws in the Wankel engine?"
1
No, you are a liar, what kind of fake are you? Just answer the simple question PLEASE... "explain why you would want a gasoline fuel that acts like Diesel fuel??? and how that would solve the flaws in the Wankel engine?"
1
No, unfortunately there are precious few that really know or understand anything about the history or development of the Wankel engine...
1
Depends on the application.. inline 6 is smoother, less vibration but longer and heavier.
1
Range extenders are are monumentally stupid which is why no automobile manufacturer sells one.
1
@Gewdvibes You really don't know anything about cars do you kid? Toyota sells more Camry models in ONE MONTH than Tesla sells CARS IN AN ENTIRE YEAR! EVs make up less than 1% of the cars in the world and this market share remains stagnant.
1
That is a lie. There are currently no countries that have banned ICE cars and no agreement to phase them out... There simply is no technology available to completely replace them and they will be around for and for sale well into the foreseeable future.
1
@Gewdvibes Unless it is signed and adopted into law? It is completely meaningless.... which exactly what it is. Just the facts here son, childish insults won't make you look very smart or very mature, and they certainly won't support your false assumptions about automobiles and the automobile industry.... it just makes you the angry troll here. Don't hate, EDUCATE yourself!
1
@Gewdvibes The recent riots in France have definitely scratched Paris off that list... the people there have spoken and they do not want electric cars or higher taxes to pay for them.
1
@Gewdvibes Just the facts here... there are no bans on internal combustion cars in Europe or America... I think you are having a difficult time distinguishing real news from fake news.
1
@Samuel Thornton Well, if they were better? Then why did people not want to buy them??? Sex? only if you are gay... but as you might know already the LGBTQ community no longer supports Mazda... they have named Tesla Motors as the official car of the gay and lesbian community.
1
@Samuel Thornton Electric cars are great... if you are GAY! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLSR_pa6vjk

+Motakai I love Doritos... Cool Ranch flavor is my favorite! Don't HATE, EDUCATE yourself.
1
Mazda care too much about staying in business to shove a dirty, inefficient and unreliable Wankel in their cars anymore...
1
@Forever13 pt Can you please offer a successful, practical example of the Bourke engine? As far as I'm aware its dubious and unfounded claims are yet to be verified by any independent third party testing... and no company currently offers one for sale to confirm these grossly inflated claims.
1
@Forever13 pt Mazda has only confirmed a joint venture with Toyota and Denso to produce a plug-in, 100% electric vehicle. Mazda no longer sells cars with Wankel engines... no automotive manufacture has for several years now... the design is now completely obsolete in the engine manufacturing industry... so NO its not coming back.
1
@Forever13 pt No its not, Mazda discontinued production of Wankel engines and no one is making range extenders anymore... the concept never really got off the ground.
1
@Forever13 pt But you cannot prove that the Bourke offers any practical advantages, only conjecture regarding possible theoretical ones... and that doesn't pay the bills or power automobiles down the road... so therefore not worth mentioning.
1
@Forever13 pt The truth is irrefutable... there are no Wankel engines in development at Mazda or any new cars using them... and there is no evidence to prove otherwise.
1
@Valdimir Lucifer Oh Yeah? SO WHAT? Mazda has been saying that for over 8 years now and it never comes true!!! They have not unveiled a new production Wankel engine in 25 YEARS!!!! Maybe you are just a fool to believe any of these false rumors.
1
@Valdimir Lucifer More lies... Rumors are never confirmed, that is why they are called rumors and not facts!! There are no new Wankel engines coming from Mazda... idiots like you have been repeating these same false rumors for decades... how can you be so gullible?
1
Compared to what? Mazda used to sell Wankel engines... nothing could be more unreliable!
1
He was 50 when invented the DKM-54 engine... But he never came up with the idea for this engine... the Wankel KKM was invented by Hanns Paschke and Walter Froede... in 1957.

insert homosexual rotard' comments below.
1
The Wankel engine turned out to be a bad choice... no manufacturer even sells them anymore.
1
Mazda announced it is now taking orders for delivery in Europe in September, 178 horsepower and 164 lb-ft of torque, The 2.0 liter Skyactiv-X Mazda3 delivers 43.6 mpg on the new European WLTP drive cycle test. No EPA ratings yet but they could be near the 50 MPG mark. prices starting at $23,000 USD. The Skyactiv-X is expected to arrive in the states next year.
1
You could buy 5 of these Mazda's for the price of the best range performing EV available on the market.
1
SHOCKING NEWS! Mazda CEO Akira Marumoto has confirmed there will No New Rotary Engine. https://thedriven.io/2019/06/11/mazda-confirms-100-electric-car-model-for-2020/
1
Mazda just announced The 2.0 liter Skyactiv-X Mazda3 delivers 43.6 mpg on the new European WLTP drive cycle test. No EPA ratings yet but they could be near the 50 MPG mark.
1
Mazda lost 3 billion on the RX-8... 10 mil is just pocket change.
1
But how would it form a gas tight seal? And how would it allow for the expansion and contraction of the housings? a roller would require some type of bearing to support it at such extremely high rpm... and that would a require some form rigid attachment. And interesting idea... but not a practical or even functional one.
1
You are correct... its a type of crankshaft called an eccentric-crankshaft... but works exactly the same.
1
Actually all Wankel KKM engines use the same 4-stroke operating principle as the Otto engine.
1
Rolls-Royce went bankrupt developing the R-6! It was a massive embarrassing failure that never started or ran reliably... the british government rescued R-R from creditors and nationalize it... the first program cut was the R6 fiasco
1
David Garside is a self-promoting crackpot, and a con-man... Norton purchased its Wankel engine from Sachs and promptly went bankrupt producing the inferior Wankel engine.
