BULLSHIT!!! Felix Wankel had NOTHING to do with the development of the Wankel KKM design... HE HATED IT!!! The KKM was the creation of WALTER FROEDE and HANNS PASCHKE... Max Bentele is credited with the greatest improvements to the Wankel design... he was also the first to realize it was a dead-end design.
1
But John, Daves designs for Norton were all FAILURES!!! Norton went bankrupt because Garside is a incompetent crackpot!!!
1
John than please tell us how many Wankel engines Rolls-Royce sold??? And how much profit was returned on its investment into Wankel engines????
1
Sometimes John you sound like you are completely detached from reality... Wankel engines are obsolete because engineers understand they are inferior to other ICE's still mass produces in the millions.
1
Wankel engines are obsolete because there is no way to make them reliable.
1
Not really, they suck which is why they are obsolete.
1
and Dr. Walter Froede...
1
Just remember Porsche has won Le Mans 19 TIMES!!!! with a reciprocating engine... Audi has won 9 TIMES!!!! WITH a DIESEL ENGINE!!!!! and the FIA never banned Wankel engines... Mazda retired the slow uncompetitive 787b because it could only win if the points leaders all crashed out of the race!
1
@caberFeidh The FIA never banned the Wankel engine or the 787B in WSC series or Le Mans... Mazda retired the 787B because it was slow and uncompetitive.. 20 losses in 21 races, No poles, no fastest laps. Mazda announced in 1990 that would retire the 787b after the 91 season and before Le Mans.
1
@Caberfeidh The 787B failed to win a championship for Mazda, they lost the 1991 series to Jaguar. There was little incentive to introduce a smaller Wankel engine to meet the new displacement classification. The 767s engine proved it was not reliable or powerful enough to be competitive. and the 787s chassis was outdated. Mazda switched to the Jaguar chassis and the Judd engine... can't beat'em? then Join them.

John Burns, None of the UAVs in current U.S. military service use a Wankel engine. Lockheed Martin Stalker battery-electric motor RQ-170 General Electric TF34 turbofan RQ-21 Blackjack 2-cylinder horizontally-opposed 4-stroke RQ-20 Puma battery-electric motor AAI Aerosonde Lycoming-Enya single cylinder 4-stroke Wasp III electric motor RQ-11 Raven Aveox 27/26/7-AV electric motor CQ-10A SnowGoose Rotax 914 piston engine MQ-9 Reaper Honeywell TPE331-10 turboprop MQ-8 Fire Scout Allison Model 250 turbshaft RQ-4 Global Hawk Allison AE 3007 turbofan MQ-1 Gray Eagle Thielert/Mercedes OM668 4-cylinder turbocharged 4-stroke Diesel MQ-1 Predator Rotax 914F turbocharged four-cylinder engine
1
That won't even happen... you can't change the shape of the engine, so apex seals will always be prone to damage and premature failures... That is a major flaw in the Wankel's fundamental design... there is no way to lubricate the seals without fouling the combustion chamber with oil.
1
Unfortunately that is not the case, 26 of the worlds biggest and best engine manufacturers and nearly 100 universities and research institutes have spent billions of dollars and more than a million man-hours developing the Wankel engine over the past 50 years trying to find solutions to these design flaws... by 2008 all of them had reached the exact same conclusion... the Wankel engine is fundamentally and inherently flawed... it is inferior to reciprocating engines and has been rendered obsolete in the engine manufacturing industry.
1
Mazda has a thing for backing the wrong engine technology... and then going bankrupt... lets hope that this isn't the case with HCCI technology.
1
@John Burns Well, not in the old Mazda engines... they reciprocate left and right.
1
@John Burns It appears you do not actually understand how the Wankel KKM engine works... would you like me to explain how the eccentric-crankshaft off-set produces a stroke equal to twice the offset?
1
Johnny! Just go down to your local Mazda dealer and see for yourself... Wankel engines are dead!!!
1
Unfortunately no one has ever sold Felix Wankel's engine design... it was a failure and only a single prototype exists today in the Deutsche Techniks Museum.
1
No legitimate engine manufacturer produces the Wankel KKM engine anymore... Wankel engines have become the sole domain of crackpots and con-artist... which one are you Johnny????
1
The problem here is you are taking a car that already uses twice as much fuel and creating one that uses 4 times as much fuel... not a very good idea.
1
+SidewaysGts Dude. you seriously need to chill out... everyone knows that the Wankel engine had serious disadvantages and that terrible fuel consumption is just one of the reason why they are no longer made.
1
Just the facts... so chill out, K
1
Just the facts here... Mazda never sold a single Rotary type engine in its entire history... just Wankel engines, the truth is irrefutable, and you you don't intimidate me one bit.
1
Childish insults won't prove your point (if you had one) and certainly don't make you look smarter either...
1
"More facts: Youre a twat. Shrug" It doesn't get any more childish than that.
1
Just the facts here... the truth is irrefutable. You are just not mature enough to accept the truth and still live in a perpetual state of denial.
1
You don't intimidated me... you need to accept the truth and move on with your life... attacking me will not bring the Wankel engine back from the dead.
1
What is your point? Killing the messenger will not bring back the Wankel from the dead... Nothing you can say to me will change this fact.
1
My point is there is nothing you can say to me that is going to bring back the Wankel engine... your efforts are completely futile.
1
Nothing you can say to me changes anything... the Wankel engine is dead and there is absolutely nothing you say to me will ever change this fact... if you're angry about you should insult and harass Mazda... I had nothing to do with the demise of the RX brand or the Wankel engine becoming obsolete.
1
So why the angry little childish insults... what do you think you will accomplish?
1
Your childish insults still won't bring back the Wankel engine... its dead and there is nothing you can say to me that will change this irrefutable fact...
1
Childish insults is all you have... how pathetic.
1
And you have spent years in denial that the Wankel engine is dead... Attacking me is not going to bring it back son, IT'S GONE!
1
The Wankel has been out of production for years... and you are obviously still very angry and in a deep state of denial about it.
1
Lets recap, Mazda's board of directors votes to cancel development of production Wankel engines in May 2009, and ceased all production in 2012... a decision I had nothing to do with... Why are you mad?
1
Why do you think you can intimidate me with childish insults and harassment? You do not intimidate me in the slightest...
1
Mazda doesn't make Wankel engines anymore... not a single legitimate engine manufacture has produced them in years.
1
Mazda has been selling engines that blow-up as long as its been in business... some people only care about price, not quality.
1
Mercedes-Benz revealed their HCCI engine over 10 years ago...
1
Gas? You mean gaseous fuels like LNG or propane? Yes, Wankel engines have been tested and developed to use a wide range of gaseous fuels but unfortunately the Wankel is very poorly suited to extracting the energy contained in these fuels and deliver poor fuel efficiency and higher emissions than reciprocating engine designs.
1
Most of the vaporware scams offering Wankel engines are dead... these systems are now powered by Rotax reciprocating engines.
1
Not ones in current U.S. military service, they have abandoned the use of Wankel engines completely. Lockheed Martin Stalker battery-electric motor RQ-170 General Electric TF34 turbofan RQ-21 Blackjack 2-cylinder horizontally-opposed 4-stroke RQ-20 Puma battery-electric motor AAI Aerosonde Lycoming-Enya single cylinder 4-stroke Wasp III electric motor RQ-11 Raven Aveox 27/26/7-AV electric motor CQ-10A SnowGoose Rotax 914 piston engine MQ-9 Reaper Honeywell TPE331-10 turboprop MQ-8 Fire Scout Allison Model 250 turbshaft RQ-4 Global Hawk Allison AE 3007 turbofan MQ-1 Gray Eagle Thielert/Mercedes OM668 4-cylinder turbocharged 4-stroke Diesel MQ-1 Predator Rotax 914F turbocharged four-cylinder engine
1
@WALTERBROADDUS The world's number one UAV engine manufacturer only sells reciprocating engines, just over 50,000 UAV and ultralight engines... they abandoned development and production of the inferior Wankel engine decades ago... just like all 26 of the original Wankel KKM licensee's have... including Mazda.
1
@WALTERBROADDUS Just the facts here son... Wankel engines are obsolete technology now... it proved to be a massive commercial failure and is now the sole domain of crackpots and investment scams.
1
@John Burns Hey Johnny!!! Welcome back to the real world! Have you been by the Mazda dealer to check out those new 2020 RX models yet??? Hahahahaahaha!!!!!!
1
@John Burns The voice of the Mazda salesman told me "We don't sell those anymore... the RX line was discontinued long before I started working here"
1
@John Burns Johnny you look like a fool right now, you told me Mazda would launch the RX-9 by now... WHERE IS IT????
1
NEWS FLASH! MAZDA CONFIRMS NO ROTARY RANGE EXTENDER. https://thedriven.io/2019/06/11/mazda-confirms-100-electric-car-model-for-2020/
1
A trip down to your local Mazda dealer proves these troublesome obsolete engines are no longer sold... now all we have is fake rumors.
