Rotax GmbH. reciprocating engines dominate the UAV industry... Wankel engines are obsolete.
1
None of the UAVs in current operation with the US military (the world's largest customer) have a Wankel engine.
1
Wankel engines are completely obsolete in the automobile industry and no longer produced anywhere in the world... not even Mazda uses them now.
1
Also because Mazda discontinued its brand of Wankel engines formerly known as the registered trademark "Mazda Rotary®".
1
Why do you think it would work better? And how would it reduce emissions?
1
So you are unfamiliar with the concept of fuel enrichment as the manifold pressure increases? Forced-induction engines must operate with a richer air-fuel mixture as manifold pressure increases... engines with turbochargers must run even richer than superchargers to lower the EGT (exhaust gas temp.) and keep the TIT (turbine inlet temp.) below a safe limit. Wankel engines due to their lower efficiency require even richer fuel mixtures than piston engines and tend detonate (pre-ignition) and overheat the turbo more easily due to the poor combustion chamber design and higher EGT than piston engines.
1
Ernie Brink has an imaginary engine... it looks like an engine but doesn't run.
1
Mazda's MX-5 is currently the world's most popular track car... its also the best selling sports car under $50,000!
1
Apex seals are why Mazda only sells cars with reciprocating engines now!
1
Mazda only makes and sells cars with reciprocating engines now... its time to join the rest of us here in the 21st century... the Wankel engine is obsolete because it could no longer compete against vastly superior reciprocating engines that dominate the performance car industry.
1
The only thing that stopped is production of cars with Wankel engines... the Wankel is now completely obsolete in the engine manufacturing industry... the quicker you learn to accept this fact the happier we all can be OK?
1
OLD RUMORS BUSTED! MOST RECENT NEWS Mazda CEO Akira Marumoto has confirmed there will No New Rotary Engine. https://thedriven.io/2019/06/11/mazda-confirms-100-electric-car-model-for-2020/
1
How would you get the compression and power strokes to work and achieve the 4-stroke cycles????
1
You have to remove the engine from the vehicle and perform an entire engine overhaul, some of the major components are often damaged besides the apex seals and can be expensive to replace.
1
@John Burns BULLSHITE!!! Diesels are not being banned in the EU.
1
A lot of the major flaws in the Wankel engine are inherent to its basic geometry and will never be solved... Not true, if there were any real advantages? Wankel engines would still be in production...
1
Mazda just announced The 2.0 liter Skyactiv-X Mazda3 delivers 43.6 mpg on the new European WLTP drive cycle test. No EPA ratings yet but they could be near the 50 MPG mark. They are not out yet but expect to see them in European showrooms in September.
1
You sound very angry... don't deny it like you deny the Wankel is dead.
1
Sure doesn't sound like it... you seem very bitter and disturbed.
1
Run along angry little troll... you are bitter and angry at Mazda... not me.
1
Mazda no longer sells cars with Wankel engines... I'm just stating the facts.
1
+Orion Loranzo He is right though... those engines were total garbage... more power but far worst efficiency and much lower reliability all with a ridiculous price tag... that is why they were discontinued by Mazda decades ago.
1
+Andrew It still doesn't change the fact that Mazda no longer sells any car with a Wankel engine.
1
+Andrew No fact could be more easily proven than simply going down to your local Mazda dealer's showroom... you will not find ANY NEW CARS with a Wankel engine.
1
+Andrew You seem extremely bitter that Mazda discontinued Wankel engines... but the truth is no automobile company can stay in business selling cars that no one wants to buy. Sales of Mazda's RX brand were in steady DECLINE since 1986 and by 2008 cars were starting to sit in showrooms unsold and piling up in storage. Mazda's massive Ujina #2 RX-8 assembly line was sitting idle except for just 4 hours PER WEEK bleeding the company dry with lost development and production costs.
1
+Andrew Sounds like you are not as nostalgic for 1960's technology as you are for 1960's prices... My advice to you is if you cannot afford to buy a new car that you like... find a better job
1
+Andrew Whats was your point Andrew? Was someone else here arguing that Subaru doesn't make reliable long lasting cars???
1
+Andrew Are you sure you weren't reading an article from an amateur blogsite like "Motor1" or "A1Auto"??? these non-credentialed "news" sites are filled with fake "clickbait" headlines that are posted because they are guaranteed to produce a lot of revenue generating "hits" to their blog page.
1
+Andrew I was around back when experts still believed that the Wankel engine was going to completely replace reciprocating engines... I have been fascinated with the M950F and the SCORE programs for decades... if anything I'm a little sad that the Wankel turned out to be a colossal failure and all of this engine research is now completely forgotten. What does bother me is brainless, uneducated amateurs regurgitating false urban myth, fake rumors and outright lies about the Wankel engines that do not exist and never will... because they do not understand or accept the fact that the Wankel as commercial production engine is now complete dead. Wake up kid, you still have a lot to learn yet.
1
+Andrew I'm not sure what your experiment is supposed to prove son... we were discussing technology and features of NEW and FUTURE vehicles... I personally love old cars and own several of them that I have partially or fully restored... some of my vehicles have over 400,000 miles on THE ORIGINAL ENGINE.. and still pass emissions testing here in California (the strictest in the world). We were discussing the fact that Mazda NO LONGER sells cars with Wankel engines because they are OBSOLETE in the auto manufacturing industry, why is this fact so difficult for you to accept?
1
+Andrew Where is the link to the official Mazda statements??? Where is the new engine? The articles doesn't give any quotes, references or verifiable facts... I'm sorry but that is not proof... just more of the sme old false rumors we have been getting for over 10 years.
1
+Andrew A real announcement is followed up by details, photos and a reveal of the new engine... The Skyactiv-X engine expected to go on sale at the same time has already been displayed and even test driven by the press... if there is a Range extender Wankel engines coming in 2020??? WHERE IS IT??? We should have seen a prototype by now.
1
+Andrew Real upcoming models and engines can be seen, examined in their prototype and pre-production form and even test driven by the press before release, imaginary vehicles and engine cannot because they do not exist. https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/2019-mazda-3-with-skyactiv-x-compression-ignition-gas-engine-prototype-drive-review
1
The Renesis engine is a lot worse than "a bit fragile..." and as performance cars go... Mazda sedans are not that impressive.
1
Just the facts here kids.. these engines are WANKEL engines, and by the way... you probably wouldn't know a Rotary engine if one was dropped on your foot!
1
@cicobee Your'e funny man... I love your sarcasm!
1
@cracked emerald They are imperfect engines... which is why they are no longer used in any major professional racing series.
1
@Matt Evans The FIA NEVER BANNED the Mazda 787B or Wankel engines... this is a false urban myth. Then why was the 787B so slow and uncompetitive? The Mazda 13B series engines have a total, true displacement of 3.9 liter... Most Motorsports sanctioning bodies use the 2X conversion formula to calculate Wankel engine displacement at 720° making the 13B a 2.6 for comparison purposes. You should learn some basic engineering and engine design before you make foolish comments.
1
@Matt Evans Mazda did not discover anything new, it purchased the manufacturing rights for the Wankel KKM engine design from NSU Motorenwerkes GmbH. in 1960... it had no automotive engine designs of its own prior to this time. Not anymore, Mazda cancelled development in May 2009 and discontinued production in June 2012.
1
Wankel engines are no longer used in any major professional or world class motorsports series.
1
@Vinny V Could've fooled me kid... There is a lot more to learn about Wankel engines than what was shown in this fan boy video. Don't look at your own comments??? Sounds like you are the one trolling here son...
1
The Wankel engine is obsolete and can not be adapted to Skyactiv-X technology either.
1
You obviously don't know much about Wankel engines or Skyactiv-X technologies.
1
Mazda only makes reciprocating piston engines...
1
There are a lot of false urban myths and misinformation out there that is really disturbing... the Wankel engine is an outdated and obsolete engine that died-out because it simply cannot be adapted to utilize the modern technology that it needs to make it clean, efficient and powerful enough to compete with the vastly super reciprocating engine types mass produced in the millions today.
1
Despite all the unsubstantiated blogsite rumors and bizzare comments from disgruntled Mazda employees... its no secret that Mazda is no longer in development of any new production Wankel engine... Mazda's board of directors voted in May 2009 to cancel all further development of commercial production engines and ordered all production to cease by 2013.... The very last series production engine was assembled on June 21st. 2012. The RX engine assembly facility at Ujina #2 was dismantled in late 2013 to make way for a new Skyactiv-G reciprocating engine plant. Mazda has not revealed any new engine prototypes in 10 years and they have not unveiled any new production engine in 23 years... if you think Mazda is going to bring them back? You are very naive indeed sir.
1
Skyactiv-G and Skyactiv-X technology requires high static compression Ratios... anyone familiar with Wankel engine should know that this is simply not possible because of the Wankel KKMs seriously flawed and limited combustion chamber geometry, CRs above 12.5:1 cause serious disruption of proper ignition flame propagation and deflageration making the designs poor combustion efficiency issues even worse. Mercedes-Benz exhaustively studied and developed GDI fuel injection systems with the Wankel engine in the late 1960s and found the CRs too low to effectively adapt Stratified Charge Mode Combustion and several other manufactures such as Rolls-Royce, Deutz, Yanmar, MAN, Krupp and John Deere studied Direct injection Stratified Charge operation with the Diesel Cycle and all failed to produces a commercially viable engine for these exact same reasons. Mazda's Skyactiv-X technology utilizes a modified Miller Cycle and variable valve timing in order to actively control Dynamic Compression Ratio something not possible in a fixed port induction design such as the Wankel KKM so any suggestion that Mazda is working on a similar system for the Wankel engine is simply ridiculous and without any technical merit.
1
The only one making themselves look like an idiot is you buddy... you clearly have no fuckin clue what you are talking about...Wankel engines are an obsolete dead-end technology that even backwards little companies like Mazda even abandoned several years ago....
1
You obviously do not understand how this new HCCI technology works if you think it can be adapted to the Wankel concept... perhaps you should go back to playing video games kid.
1
You are wrong kid, and you just embarrass yourself by pretending otherwise.... your comment is not funny, its just stupid and sad.
