All Wankel KKM type engines use the same 4-stroke operating principle as the Otto type engine. each of the three combustion faces completes all 4-strokes just a a 3-cylinder reciprocating engine would, the only difference is the Wankel requires 3 rotations to complete its firing order instead of just 2 revolutions for a reciprocating 4-stroke engine.

  6. The Wankel has more moving parts than a comparable reciprocating 2-stroke. All Wankel engines are 4-stroke but suffered from very poor fuel economy. 2-strokes are smaller and lighter. Gas turbines offer significantly better power-to-weight ratio performance which is why Wankel engines are obsolete.

  7. Not really true, the last production Wankel engine was the Mazda Renesis in the RX-8 and it had over 235 moving and seal related parts and was very unreliable. They still make reciprocating 2-stroke engines but Wankel engines are obsolete because they do not offer any advantages over reciprocating piston engines.

Are you suggesting there is no pumping loss during the exhaust stroke???Then explain why does the cylinder pressure rise during the exhaust stroke after BDC??? A turbocharger's exhaust turbine is driven by the TEMPERATURE DIFFERENTIAL of the exhaust gasses Gas Turbines are Heat Engines and comply with Second Law of Thermodynamics and the Carnot Cycle Formula...

  31. @Mandernach Luca Unlike the obsolete Wankel engine, Jet engines are still mass produced and completely dominate the commercial and military aviation industry. Although no longer constructed in Germany, the BMW -003 family is still in production (the longest continuously produced jet engine in history) Cheers!

The Wankel engine has always been poorly suited to aircraft applications which they have never been used by any manufacturer for certified production aircraft. Only Graupner GmbH. made RC Wankel engines... and they discontinued them ages ago...

  50. @100GTAGUY Gas turbines offer a Order of Magnitude greater power-to-weight ratio, Power density and time between overhaul performance with greater range and fuel efficiency than any Wankel engine known to ever exist. Cheers!
