They placated and catered to unhinged radicals via states rights and electoral college and so on, and they were never gonna fall in line with the north's ways, only sabotage the entire system for everybody. This is why the Republicans' entire goal is to prove that government doesn't work. Yeah, it doesn't work, because they are in it. They make it not work, because they pout and throw tantrums at the evolving world around them while they still want to live in the colonial era and play make-believe with the land of opportunity lie. America is not a get-rich quick scam for the white bourgeois anymore, it's got a ton of different demographics to cater to now and it needs to be equitable for everybody, not just the legacy European imperialist assholes who got their nice start by killing all the natives and enslaving blacks. You're not at the top of the totem pole anymore, and you never will be again, just like how the Nazis lost at the peak of their power and they ain't coming back either. Your entire ideology and way of life is counterproductive to the welfare of everyone else, including non-elite whites (AKA most whites). Hopefully more of white America realizes how they are being duped and exploited by evil lies of the outdated narrowminded mentality and cultural sensibilities that the Founders they venerate so much came from, because the system ain't working for them either. No one is more hopelessly enslaved than one who believes they are free. The wolves have convinced the sheep that they are wolves too, getting sheep to fight for the wolves' cause.
