Muslim Hawala system of value transfer would be another example for Michael's point
1
the discussion around mistakes and making the most mistakes to learn and evolve and optimize performance brings to mind my own philosophy in recruiting each "no" is a resolution of an unknown into a known and each subsequent "no" gets me closer to the next "yes" : )
1
I want to know when The White Pill audio book will be available EDIT: Malice said that the audio book will be out in a couple weeks : )
1
YES!!!! the most promising startups I work with are those that bring together scientific innovations and startup business plans! 100%
1
Elon's impossible or next to impossible milestones that pump the stock price builds equity value not just for external investors but equity for Tesla employees driving them as Lex mentioned to do the best work of their lives so in a sense the outrageous claims actually make them more possible through the market action effects : )
1
kids that have grown up playing Minecraft are primed for the digital investing world
1
Zuck: "We're not just trying to serve an elite wealthy crowd" not so subtle burn of Apple lol
1
the YT algorithm does not (yet) have the depth to understand beyond the literal so "it's a real knife fight" as a metaphorical expression comparing an ultra-competitive real estate market to a knife fight
1
BitClout has the potential to give lie to the notion that ideas are a dime a dozen

music is fundamental to the spirit. humor is fundamental to the spirit

hey we have an overlap in our lives apparently, Neal and I that is. Magic Leap was a former client company of mine and I placed a Senior Computer Vision Engineer on Jean-Yves Bouguet's team back in 2018 : )

really enjoyed this conversation though wish you had discussed more about ethical hacking/red teaming/penetration testing/vulnerability assessment
1
if we have an AI that seems conscious and therefore we interact with it as if it is conscious, i can conceive consciousness as emerging as a function of fake-it-'til-you-make-it
1
hmmm some form of staking to mitigate shitposting like this idea
1
Lee: "I love walking through the walls" i love it anti-stay-in-your-lane-ism true innovation emerges with lack of lane discipline in science
1
the Trump interview was good but the Lex AMA deeply resonated with me
1
Lex: "I shall be the general of the Love Bot Army" : )
1
love the idea of small peer groups......complimenting and sharpening each others' strengths and calling out each other on our shit
1
would have loved to be a fly on the wall for that dinner conversation between Lee and Joscha Bach ("My Dinner with Joscha")
1
what Lex and Matt touched on brought to my mind Jeff Bezo's regret minimization framework
1
fantastic just fantastic!
1
i'm glad Lex brought up the cross-platform fraud emails to his fan base this is especially egregious, i agree, because it is trying to capitalize on the bond between podcaster and audience/subscribers it's like relationship bond-based fraud
1
I can understand the Devil being dressed in the French style in the Brother's Karamazov given the depth of francophilia in Russian society and aristocracy at that time.....like the seduction of being something you are not being an aspect of the Devil's influence
1
Yes! thank you Jason for mentioning that Trump got his outrage-schtick from Howard Stern i used to listen to Howard Stern in the 90's daily
1
sounds like consciousness is like a liquid that takes the form of the container you put it into hmmmm got to think more on this
1
Spot with curiosity reward function for its RL yes!
1
I have got to push back on Jeremi's assertion that Trump failed to protect his employees.....ok maybe so, but then the SAME THING could be said of Nancy Pelosi who was 100% aware of credible intel that there could be something happening at the Capitol during this process and CHOSE to reduce the number of Capitol Police on duty to skeletal numbers.
1
thanks Lex!
1
This is the podcast we have been looking for
1
i encourage people to take a look at Akash Network building first decentralized sovereign permission-less cloud
1
I find that Lex's questions are getting better and better
1
Lex is 100% correct douche-baggery abounds
1
love the concept of not knowing the right questions to ask to unlock new layers of your long term partner.......reminds me of prompt engineering for ChatGPT......you get so much more if you know the best questions to ask
1
the decreased productivity of Nobel Prize winners could be an artifact of not wanting your post-Nobel Prize work to be less-than your award winning work.....similar with Oscar winning filmmakers there is a pressure to keep producing at that level and then ego issues of not being able to replicate that level of externally recognized success
1
Lex: "I could be a figment of your imagination" need consensus for Proof of Lex
1
i am getting a Leonard Cohen vibe
1
Chamath's closing extremely thoughtful description and praise for what Lex is doing is so spot on and very well said
1

1
i think it is not accurate to say that ALL protestors who entered the Capitol on Jan 6 had the intention of overthrowing the legitimate government or stopping the peaceful transfer of power, i think there were definitely a small minority of them who intended that (including agent provocateur Ray Epps) but there is no clear indication that all the several hundred people acted with any intention like that
1
i find it amusing and heartening watching Lex get confused given how brilliant he is and how much less so i am. fantastic discussion!
1
i've always considered reality emerging and developing as it is shared. shared experiences are the foundation of our shared reality. AI or social robots will need to remember past experiences and past dialogue to truly share reality with us and be seen as true friends worth sharing time with in our lives
1
Jeff's Thousand Brain Theory brings to mind for me insect vision with their compound eyes producing visual models at the sensory input stage. Jeff's model suggests we also use compound models but not eye-level instead our compound models reside in the neocortex but the process sounds quite similar...sensor fusion, voting of some sort to elicit the best model to use given all the data from all models
1
zombie part of the discussion brought this to mind "we refuse to be what you wanted us to be" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXkvIcMn--4
1
I agree 100% with Liv's answer on the meaning of life. in fact back in 1991 in undergrad my outgoing msg on answering machine was "i'm out evolving towards greater complexity...." : )
1
very interesting.......is the idea of RNA as THE building block of life.....more science or more narrative (good cohesive story, simple elegant yet perhaps untrue explanation)
1
it seems our brains our wired so that the intensity of our experience of love, happiness, joy is dependent on the depths of our experience of pain, grief, loss, suffering
1
i like what Sam had to say on meaning of life.....meaning of life is a question that is only asked when not in the peak performance/flow state of being, so then meaning of life is to be in the state of not asking yourself that question
