Coal powered plants produce at least tentimes the waste per produced kwh.
1
@davidsuzukiispolpot One should not shut down realtivly new plants. One should phase them out when they reached their end of life. The more wind, solar, hydro and biomass power plants one build, the less intermittent the production becomes.
1
@davidsuzukiispolpot I was not even talking about CO2. C3 plants get in trouble at CO2 levels between 50 and 100 ppm, C4 plants need at least 10 ppm. In other words values of 101 ppm and higher should be ok for the vast majority of plant life and it is rather pointless to discuss such a value that did not happen for millions of years, probably billions of years
1
20 years is pretty standard and a legal requirement in some countries. One can order turbines for 25 and 30 year service life. The Tvindkraft windturbine from the late 70s is still running.
1
@lbowsk One can order ones with lifetimes of 30 years. Ask Siemens or GE.
1
@KReed1966 That is the issue of goverment politics, not the technology.
1
Other countries know were to put them and they can produce electricity cheaply, if one does not select the wrong location.
1
They are. There are multiple companies that earn money with it.
1
@MindHunger Recycling is a service, one has to pay for it. That is like saying a haidresser is not economical, because people have to pay him. And considering the damage prevented to the enviroment and the energy and material saved, it is very economical.
1
@MindHunger That is not subsidizing, but paying for a service. Or do you subsidize your hairdresser? Most recycling costs money or do you get paid for used motor oil or rundown tyres? That is why one makes it illegal to just throw away.
1
@MindHunger Looks like you did not understand the word. Paying for a service is not subsidizing. "A subsidy is money that is paid by a government or other authority in order to help an industry or business, or to pay for a public service."
1
@MindHunger That is what the textbooks say. Look it up.
1
@MindHunger Are you nuts? You told me yourself to look into textbooks, despite them confirming what I wrote before.. And in the real world this is the definitiin of subsidies, not something you make up.
1
But that does not happen. Fossil fuels kill 35times more birds than windturbines... Somehow that does not matter.
1
They pay well.
1
There are companies that recycle them. Just make it mandatory.
1
The carbon content of the air increased the past 100 years.
1
Inspection and maintenance is the job of the owner, not the manufacturer. And yes, you are right. Properly maintained they can last longer.
1
The physical reality is that they last longer in other countries. The short lifespan is an US problem, caused by their tax schemes.
1
There diferent models, but they ususally consist of a carbon, fibergalss, resin composite.
1
That is a myth.
1
@stefanjohansson2373 100% myth in other countries.
1
@stefanjohansson2373 If you had facts, you would show them. I cannot show you what does not exist.
1
@stefanjohansson2373 If there so many other videos, please show them. Otherwise it sounds like one of the many tinfoilhat theories floating around internet.
1
It is only proof that some countries lack enviromental protection laws. Other countries do not allow this.
1
@annatjiekruger77 That shows how few countries care about the enviroment. Sidenote. China builds roughly the same if not more winturbine capacity than the US and Europe together. Must be hippies then...
1
And the remaining silicium goes into the cement...
1
It is unfortunate to see how most people won't realize the scale of waste created by these fossil fuels. But do not worry, some dude with a cowboy hat will tell you how much money one can make by ignoring some trees and that fossil fuels are the best!
1
@JohnBurgundy66 But we do not plan to reduce fossil fuel use to zero.
1
@JohnBurgundy66 The world. And China and India are working on reduction, otherwise they would not invest heavily into renewables.
1
@JohnBurgundy66 I never claimed to speak for the world. I just do not know of any country that plans to reduce fossil fuel use to zero. Something you claimed.
1
For not doing a thing, they produce a lot of electricity. And they look better than many skyscrapers. The Dutch covered their land in windmills in the past.
1
@Jf72-j9r First you claim they do not a thing, then you claim they do not supply that much electricity. What will you claim next? Windturbines produce around 9% of the electricity of the USA.
1
@Jf72-j9r We have a different understanding of nothing and I doubt you understand what communists are. If one wants more immagrants from south america or other warm parts of the world, one should indeed burn more fossil fuels.
1
There is a difference between weather and climate.
1
Everything humanity builds has some negative impact. The trick is to reduce the impact compared to alternativs.
1
It is about reducing the damage. If you wanted to stop the damage, humanity would need to turn off all machines and then commit collective suicide. I do not consider that an option. Btw. your comment also added to the damage of the enviroment.
1
Some goverments thought ahead and made disposal in landfills illegal.
1
Water is also natural part of a dynamic system. Too much of it and one will drown and whole cities get flooded. The problem is not CO2, we breath it out with every breath, but the problem is the amount in the atmosphere.
1
As is saves a lot of CO2, it is.
1
@jimmccoal2693 Seven of 13
1
One can store lithium batteries in an apartment. Would you do that with uranium fuel rods?
1
@tompsheridantsheridant7354 I see you were unable to come up with even one single argument and somehow had to vent your frustration about your incompetence. It is ok.
1
That is rather unusual. 20 years is pretty normal life span. Modern turbines are designed for 25 and a few even for 30 years life span.
1
No power plant can survive without cash inputs, especially the ones one needs to buy fuel for.
1
They make cement in other countries.
1
But the earth and plants are not using the excess of CO2. That is why the CO2 in the air is increasing. And plants do not grow better, if they have less water.
1
Do not assume that others act according to your personal beliefs.
1
That is not really a problem. Just declare a ban on landfill disposal.
1
None, when done right.
