If you are on it, google mountain top mining or open pit mining of coal. A more traditional look is spoil tips from subterranean mining. Some are over 100m high.
And we did not even talk about the exhaust gases yet that include arsenic, lead, PAH, mercury, sulfur dioxide, sulfur nitrate, chromium, NOx, cadmium, cyanides and fine dust particles.
