  11. Even if you liquidated all the assets of every billionaire in France it could not come anywhere close to paying for two years of retirement pensions for the French population. And you could only do that once. Stop blaming "the rich." The rich aren't sitting on a bottomless pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. This is about French citizen mortgaging their children's future, adding to crushing national debt, because they don't feel like working after 62.

  21. Back when Social Security was invented by your friend FDR, the retirement age was lower than the life expectancy so most people never retired. It’s disgusting that in a world where hundreds of millions of people lack food, clean water, safety, and/or shelter the one human right you are not allowed to question is a 15 year paid vacation.   24.  @deannealbrecht774  If you work from 22 to 62, and live until 82, that's 40 years on the workforce and 20 being taken care of by the work force. That's 1/3rd of your adult life. It's not "paid for by the workers" because you're always paying into a different system than you will live off of. When you were paying into the system, people had a shorter life expectancy than you will when you retire.

In 1950 the life expectancy was 65, the average family spent 30% of their income on food, the average man worked 10 more hours per week, and the median house size was less than half what it is today but we still think those were ‘the good old days.’

  36. It's like saying "Want your store to make more money? Just raise prices!" Income taxes are nothing but a price tag on entering a certain income bracket. The more you tax a certain bracket, the less motivated people will be to enter or stay in that bracket. As a result, you'll have to tax them more for the same effect and the cycle repeats ad infinitum.
